  1. I so want to do this to confirm (or disprove) some genealogy info I have. Several older family members have verbally confirmed the same story (back in the 90s, they have all passed since), but there is no paperwork even though my mom and I searched extensively. But I don't want it registered to my name... Anyone know how to do it anonymously?? You can PM me if you want.... And is it really anonymous if you know what I mean? I mean they could track IP addresses of who accessed the account....I guess I could use tunnel bear??? I had my DNA tested by a geneticist for medical reasons, does anyone know if I can request a copy and input it into some site (anonymously) to get ethnicity info?? Or is the data different?
  2. Thank you! Ok, that is 21.... at least 4 more to go!!!

Well I favor Amazon, especially for us plus size gals, but ebay also has stunt undies (which they will henceforth be called here from now on). I have a few I got a lane bryant that I will wear all day sometimes, but I have been known to pull KungFu's trick of changing later in the day and I can attest that no one will be the wiser. I mean comfort is not what I am usually looking for in stunt undies, so who cares..They usually last about 15 minutes anyways....... and @Melissa in Australia it is the 1st, not the later...although if abseiling in a dress I do think it would require some special other type of undies...
  4. So DS15 is doing a Back to the 80s theme party for their 4-H County Ambassadors party....He asked me to make a list of 1980s pop culture items/people for a "What am I?" type ice breaker game. To make it easier, I am thinking to tell them it could be: Person, movie/TV show, or thing So far I have: Micheal Jackson Madonna Miami vice Rubik cube Prince Moonwalk Break Dancing ET Star Wars Indiana Jones Die Hard Leg warmers MTV Cool Runnings Pac-man Tetris Donkey kong MacGyver I need about 25-30 total..... HELP!!! I was still kind of young in the 80s, so what else am I missing that kids (14+) these days would know?
  5. My new faves that I have made multiple times: This fried Rice recipe, it is the best I've tried! These General Tso Meatballs, but I double the sauce, cuz, well I love extra sauce on the rice. This Peruvian green sauce, really, I could eat it on anything, like shrimp, steak, you name it. This is my new favorite salad, sometimes I add avocado. Oh, I learned how to velvet meat, important for stir fries and things like philly cheesesteak. Maybe everyone else knew it, but I didn't. Also I made homemade flat bread for the 1st time. It is really good, but time consuming. If I get organized, I would love to do a giant batch every 2 weeks and freeze.
  6. Thanks all! I ordered this one which is an older version of the one I found for $83. But I mean it is ancient literature, how much could change, right? If it is not a hit, I will take a look at some of the others mentioned. I think, @elegantlion I might also get that one to carry over into next year.
  7. @Rachel Hahaha.... we had so much food.... like we sent food home (mainly bagels, chips, some desserts and veges). I did add yogurt parfaits for breakfast. Greek yogurt and berries and granola. That was a hit. The leader who does the training says they never had a spread like that, so people came not expecting that much food I guess. They all loved it. I think I may be tagged for doing the food again next year ! But at least I won't be in the training that year! It was a lot both doing the training and prepping the food. AND I will have a heads up and can get more donations.
  8. I just popped back to this as I am planning another cooking session next week <insert crazy emoji here> and I wanted to see my notes. For those that asked, some of the recipes are online: Some here on my pinterest board like the garlic pepper steak, hungarian Goulash, lentil stew, steak bites, kung pao beef, etc. Others are just recipes I had, like the meatloaf is my mom's recipe that uses oatmeal, condensed milk, salt with a ketchup/vinegar sauce. Kafta is just ground beef, allspice, salt, white pepper, parsley, white onion, 7 spice (lebanese one, not asian) all mixed in a food processor. I prefer lamb, but $$$$. We easily eat 2 pounds will all 6 of us. Shwarma is sliced meat that has been velveted, then marinade in vinegar, oilive oil, salt and spices I bring back from Lebanon with sliced onion. Grill or roast at high heat. serve with flat bread, minced onion/parsley/sumac, tahini sauce, pickles, fries. Ravioli bakes are really easy, found it on pinterest, just use frozen raviolis in place of noodles/ricotta cheese and layer with mozzarella and meat sauce. Those I use foil pans.
  9. I had a long post once on freezer meals. I will try to find and link it. (found it here!) I prefer skillet meals or oven meals. Only a few dishes I love in a crockpot (like roast, stew, hungarian goulash, some soups). My favorite thing I did was prep meals like those freezer meals in a bag with the components: meat, veges, sauce each frozen separate. So you cook from frozen and add each item as needed while cooking, I am currently going through my recipes and planning some more. I will be making more kafta, hamburgers, steak bites, fajitas, ravioli bake, kung pao shrimp, meatloaves, garlic pepper steak, Hungarian goulash, General Tso Meatballs, Onion Hamburger Steaks(make gravy and mash potatoes day of), Philly Cheesesteak, enchiladas, marinaded peruvian shrimp, pesto salmon packets. If I can get to the butcher and get some chicken, I will mix that up a little. I use foil trays or ziploc. Depending on recipe sometimes vacuum seal.
  10. All I buy are refurbished off ebay. Just be aware what you need and what you want. I see some older laptops on there that I think would be slow running Chrome, but the low price is tempting. So make sure to get enough RAM, CPU, storage. Read the details and make sure the Hard Drive, charger and Operating System are included, (some listings can be tricky to read). I personally won't get less that 8GB RAM, Quad Core minimum. I prefer windows 10, 1TB storage and I like to have a DVD player (mainly because I still use some dvd great courses, CTC cd programs for the younger 2). I like Dell and HP. Look at reviews of the seller. I had 1 arrive and it would not boot (they forgot to install a HD caddy) and I just took pictures and sent it back at their expense. But they were a newer seller and I took a risk because it was a good deal. In your case, I would go with a seller with plenty of feedback.
  11. Kindle Fire's let you block a lot, but there are several things to turn off.... Personally I hate the paid freetime thing as it gave them access to stuff I never would have. Did you set up the parental control password? I assume yes since you set daily limits. Go to Settings> Parental Controls It will ask for the parental password. 1st there is "amazon Content and Apps", I assume here is where you blocked everything except books, camera and photos? Make sure it saved the correct settings. Then there is "password Protection" I have this on for video and twitch, but not wifi or locations services. Below that is Amazon Stores (I have that blocked, this includes apps, books and shopping but not videos) And I turn on password protection for Purchases. I also block Social sharing One way some kids get around the parental protections is by using a guest user or another user account, Go to Settings> Profiles & Family Library and make sure there is only 1 profile, yours. If there is a child's profile, you can set things up here if you want. Like Block the web browser, enable photos, add content, daily time limits. I prefer to just use the 1 profile, so I turn off "show profile on lock screen". That may have been how they were getting to the web browser if you have profiles for them.
  12. Hi all, Looking for a book for my Freshman DS who is doing ancient History this year. I wanted him to do some sample readings from primary sources (translated of course) from various writers through out the time periods/locations. He is taking a separate literature course, so this is just for exposure and to supplement. I found this book but $83 Yikes! I would like secular if possible. I found this, but from 1st looks and reviews seems based on Christian world view? Any reviews on these: Oxford the world in ancient times? Perspectives from the past? Words of the Ancient Romans? Or another I haven't found yet??? I mean I guess I could get separate books, but thought maybe there was an anthology I could use. DS loves history, so I want something he will enjoy, and exposes him to various writings, some Cicero, Greek plays, Herodotus, Plato, Virgil, etc. For reference he is reading Susan's History of the Ancient World and using Great Courses (by Aldrete and Garland) lectures and answering the discussion questions (from the lectures) for writing output. He reads and does a ton of extra on his own, mostly about military history. Thanks
  13. Look at getting the pass. I got the Balboa Park one last time and it got us into all the museums there. The Space one was a favorite for my kids. There is also the go pass for the zoo and the like. If you have AAA, tickets from them are cheaper also.
  14. ^ This. Our 4h group uses it and there are so many options, you can control who posts, cpmments, everything. And super private and easy to use.
  15. I don't think there is one. You can sync a fitbit with an alexa device, like an echo if you have one.
  16. @Lanny The cpu has a cooler included and the paste is pre-applied. You can get oem win10 on ebay for $10. DS said if he needs help, let me know. There is a series of tutorials on youtube that he recommends.
  17. Ok, so this is a link to a good build: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/bbmDXP Cavets: when you said newer games, my ds was thinking battlefield 5. This computer would play all those games you listed easily and with good graphics. And upgrades easily. He said ailenware were built to not be easily upgraded on purpose. If this is a bit over budget, he said he could make a few cuts based on those games. Right now, this pc, as is could play vr games. If you have questions, just ask. The operating system is like $10.
  18. I will ask my ds15 who builds gaming pcs to take a look and post. Do you know any specific games he is interested in? That would help. Ok, gave ds specs, he will work out some options and i will post a link to them. He took a look and said you are better of building a new one. Is your ds ok with assembling himself?
  19. What about a local senior center? My 15yo does a computer/mobile phone workshop for 1 hour/ week to help seniors get an email, sign up for things online, figure out problems on their cell phone, etc. They also need people to help in craft classes, etc.
  20. Asked my 15yo ds, and he said, to run newer games, you might find one for $1200, but more likely in the $1500+ range. He suggested looking into upgrading the desktop. For $500 you could do a lot. He has a website you can put in the parts you have and it will tell you what parts are compatible, etc. Do you know the motherboard/cpu/ram etc of the desktop? We built his gaming desktop and have upgraded parts as he saves for them. He plays online and moderates for streams. I know there are a couple games he needs to upgrade his processor for, but he plays most of the popular ones. CS:GO, R6S, Fallout, etc. If you know what games he wants to play that could help narrow it down to what he needs also.
  21. So this is that little kitten we brought home in June. He is 7 mos old now and has taken to my youngest dd. That is her doll stroller that he has adopted as his. He hops in for a ride and snuggle whenever he wants and loves to be "walked". Just thought I'd share in case anyone is having a day ( or weekend) lile mine ??
  22. For a 7yo, i would try syncing the remotes or buy a couple new ones off amazon for like $12@. There are plenty of games to play, Disney universe, movement based games, etc. And cheap games can be found used on Amazon (i get prime eligible so if they don't work, i just send them back for free, only happened 1x).
  23. Thanks for the thoughts all. This is a 4-H leaders thing where most are dry camping on the volunteers land. This is the 1st year I do it (attend and the food)and the budget is low, like $100 for the weekend for all 4 meals. I tried to get donations, but it was too short notice. I know most of the people attending, so I have a good handle on food likes, etc, and we did ask the others if there were any dietary restrictions/allergies/WOE (none except the leader who is gluten free, but we will be on her land and she will provide her own bread as needed). The Sat breakfast has me most concerned, I am going to look for low cost protein. Maybe yogurt cups? Or a tub of vanilla yogurt for parfaits? I am not a fan of parfaits (texture issue), what else would you want for parfaits?? I would hard boil eggs, but I am terrible at it! Like mine always crack and do that oozing thing and don't peel well... Anyone know a secret??? The 9x13 pan of eggs is 18 eggs, pretty thick and we will have 2-3 people who won't make it Sunday, so only 11-12 people that day. I am concerned the fruit might not be enough. The desserts I am overdoing a bit as that and the fruit and veges and popcorn could be for snacking during morning and afternoon breaks. I will also probably get some more chips., maybe some dips? I checked the roast it is 4.5 pounds and with 14 people, that comes out to 6 oz pre-cook weight. I don't have the time or $$ to get another roast, add baked beans maybe?? Or add those on hot dog day??
  24. So I am doing breakfast and lunches for a 4-H leaders training this weekend. Saturday and Sunday, 13 people total. We will be outdoors quite a bit, etc. Saturday: Breakfast: 18 full size bagels, 20 mini bagels, asst. spreads (cream cheeses, strawberry butter, PB), 2# strawberries, a honeydew melon I will cube, 1.5# grapes, gallon OJ, bananas, coffee, tea Lunch: 4# roast I will cook to make shredded BBQ beef sandwiches, 24 deli rolls, 2# coleslaw, the family size bag potato chips, pickles, brownies (2 9x13 pans), vege tray (1# carrots, 1# broccoli florets, celery, ? I need something more there I think, ranch dip), soda, iced tea Sunday:Breakfast: 2 dozen muffins, 9x13 tray scrambled eggs, 2# strawberries, grapes, oranges, bananas, Apple cider, coffee, tea Lunch: 21 hot dogs with buns, chips (2 kinds), watermelon, potato salad (5#), green salad (per request of 1 member?), cookies (4 doz), soda, iced tea It is supposed to be hot, so I may get more drinks.I got 6 2L of soda, 2 gallons iced tea, and 48 pack of water bottles. But does it look like enough??? 2 of those 13 will be teen boys, but 1 of those is mine and he doesn't eat that much. Any suggestions for snacks that would keep in the heat?? I have a microwave there and a small fridge (think hotel small, not those big dorm ones), but the fridge will be full of lunch stuff, so mainly snacks need to be ok out in the heat. I am thinking to take microwave popcorn? Apples and dip maybe? I am making the muffins and desserts as we have limited budget, so I have limited time to make anything else.
