  1. I think if you do the narrations from SOTW with him you can skip WWE. There is some dictation in FLL so you are covered there also. One thing I would add if you could swing it is just the readers with the readers guides from either Sonlight or BookShark if you can swing it. I got the SL guides for 7$ off of the website and the books at the library for 3rd and then the 4/5 Readers I just purchased outright. But I noticed that they encouraged my daughter to read. Each book was choosen so well. She loves reading now. Many of them will be suggested in the SOTW guide but I loved how these did not intertwine with history and it was all planned for me. Here is a link to the readers schedules/study guides. There is one for grade 1, 2, 3 or 4/5 we started with 3 in third grade to build confidence and moved up. http://www.sonlight.com/search.html?search=Readers%20Schedule/Study%20Guide Here is a link to their "placement test for readers" my daughter placed in 4/5 in third grade but reading those books was daunting to her at first so I put her in the 3rd and eventually she sped up at her own pace. Now she has a hard time not reading ahead so they are her "fun" readers for the year. http://www.sonlight.com/quick-reading-assessment.html

  3. Mine were big life changes... but I figured I would share... The military whooped me into shape so I never really have to work too hard to get back to where I want to be.... but the best shape I was ever in was when I went to the gym for 2 hours a day... .30 min cardio ... 30 min weight training... 30 minutes cardio... then a sit in the steam room and shower.... and I was following the older version of Weight Watchers... I am not a fan of the new point system.... My whole family is large and somehow I have managed to stay at 130 size 2-4 when i am doing what i should size 6 when I slack.... (I am 5'4")
  4. I ordered 4 2015 1099-MISC and one 2014 1099-MISC on their website and they sent me 1 1099-MISC another 1099 form and a 1098 form.... Completely random and speaks of their capabilities......
  5. My kid hates history... but loves SL/Bookshark. For 3rd Grade she did SL B with the 3rd grade readers... readers where not all tied into history which for her was good. It sounds like yours has already done that time frame though... have you thought about a unit study or something on whatever she would like? I second the interest led when they get bored or start dragging...
  6. I made my kid an omelet for breakfast while stuffing my face with the best gluten free donuts I have found in 5 years! I justify it as I have not eaten donuts in 5 years if I wanna eat 5 boxes in a day that's on my thighs! LOL
  7. She is 26 months old now.... and talks a mile a minute.... she doesn't want board books they have to be "real books" I can try the rice thing but I once gave her pasta (uncooked thankgoodness) and it was ALL over the house when we were done. It doesn't persay have to be curriculum... I just figured having a set activity or task for everyday would be helpful to keep me in order (type a issues here I have been trying to overcome for at least a decade now) .... you know show her what to do then go do work with the older one.... busy work that is educational because otherwise she climbs on the table and becomes destructive....
  8. I have seen timberdoodle and contemplated SL 3/4 (but I think it's too early for this one). I am anxiously waiting the release of My Father's World Toddler in the Summer. Is there anything else out there that 1- comes with a schedule & all the items you need included 2- a schedule or plan with a consolidated list of things to buy ? Because yes ladies I am that lazy and that desperate to keep her occupied while we do school. I have the 1+1+1 toddler book printed with markers, and play dough and magnet activities and leap frog fridge toys and a little people farm and musical instruments and tea sets and baby einstein and signing time.... AND I STILL CANNOT KEEP HER ENTERTAINED! TIA!
  9. No homeschool version but my daughter loved it and she started it at 8
  10. Can I just say how honored I feel that you personally answered my post!?!?!?! I have been applying TWTM methods to my daughters schooling because there was no one stop shop and trying to find all the recommended items for everything has been a super scary thing for me. I would be thrilled if I could find one of those listmania lists for the products listed in your book by grade and subject. I am trying to make it through 5th grade with what we are doing now and then next year I am going full TWTM. I was so hoping to just click on the website! It's okay though I am thrilled I will be able to for my little ones! Thanks so much!
  11. My question is basically that. I am looking for something more rigorous for my daughter for next year and I know VP includes tests. I am thinking of using their 6th grade history. I secularized Sonlight until Bookshark came out and I was quite pleased with the content that was left. However, I am aware that VP is contains more Christian content then SL. Does anyone actually have experience doing this?
  12. Just curious...I have been off the boards for a while due to hubby being away for work (military) and trying to keep up with pregnancy, homeschool and 3 foster kids in public school also... Has there been any information put out on here about the new Peace Hill Press Grade Level Packages? Obviously Kindergarten and 1st grade are on their web page but I am curious of how high they intend to go, as The Well Trained Mind also just opened the Academy so I assume they won't go past 6th, and also how soon we can expect to see more levels? TIA!
  13. A while back I posted about whether or not I should switch math programs and in past few weeks I have really been feeling the need to switch. We did and today was our first day with Saxon 7/6 and the Art Reed videos. Its only day 1 so we shall see how this goes but so far so good and I am relieved to not have to be the primary instructor for the material as me and dd seem to butt heads A LOT. Here's hoping its just the age!
  14. Thank you everyone. We decided to stick it out with Math in Focus. :)
  15. Granted I know that the majority of homeschoolers are Christian. I have used Christian materials in the past and had absolutely no issue will reselling it. However, I am having the hardest time reselling secular materials and I am wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience.
  16. Preamble: I hate curriculum hoping. I do hop until I find what I love and then I stick it out. However, age and family circumstances are making me reevaluate some decisions. Math is the topic of this post though. We have been using Math In Focus since book 1b. We are now in book 4a. It's Singapore Math basically. Mastery based. I had been feeling she needed something more spiral as concepts have been slipping her mind. However, I love Math In Focus its so hard to walk away. I placement tested her for Saxon Math today. She placed into Math 7/6. Having her place that high makes me second guess myself even more because clearly what we are doing is working. However, it has become hard to get her to do lessons lately. I sat her down and told her what her scores were and where she placed and explained that regardless of the number on the book she is doing well. She opted to stay with Math In Focus because of how high it helped her place in another curriculum and even reasoned that the other may not have as high of standards. I am going to consult with hubby when he wakes up (he is on a mids schedule) and get his input but I have the ultimate choice and I am now torn even more so than before. So...... What would you do?
  17. I do feel sorry for you going through this. Hopefully you are not in the south because I have found it harder here than any where. I came out as a non believer about 2 or 3 years ago now. I am happier than before but I do not have many like minded friends so I feel alone often. Someone is always trying to convert us and our kids.... I hate when they try to convert my child passionately. If you don't use secular homeschool materials yet wit til you try to find some...don't get me wrong there are some...just not as many.
  18. I would add sotw with the activity guide a d I would subscribe to the magic school bus kits and get books at the library or bookstore when you get each kit in the mail.
  19. You will be allowed in lol one of the women on here or on the sl moms page set it up cause our thread was huge
  20. Homeschooling with bookshark on facebook... we even have one of the customer service reps in the group to question ;)
  21. It doesn't sound like you are on his orders, which means you should visit there if you can't afford to go. I have been both active duty and reservist and military spouse. As a rule hubby and I don T separate stateside. However my husband is a warrant officer and he is about to attend a training course that is 5 months long and has a 75% fail rate. The children and I are not going. We made a joint decision not to so that he can focus without distraction. We will visit I'm at least once a month maybe more after he has had a chance to get set up and establish a rhythum. We have both been deployed away from our oldest and it sucks but at least she was old enough to know that we didn't want to leave her and that he was coming back. Our youngest will be 2 and that concerns us greatly. I suggest that if your kids understand the situation you wait until his unit is set up. If he will have time to spend with you all. Or if it would be better to visit. You will get 250$ per month of family separation pay if you don't go. Not that the money fixes it but it my help the pay cut situation.
  22. maltese/bichon frise. I would not go rescue with any type of dog. I know they need homes too but I would worry about how they would react around my kiddos. At least if they start off in your home as a pup they have a better chance of not going bananas.
  23. I don't like pets. BUT our dog of over 10 years just died and I would say unless you can love one til the end don't do it. Its not fair to the pet. If you do Maltese/Bichon Frise mixes don't shed (but do need haircuts regularly) and they really don't smell. No one who ever came to visit my home ever knew I had one unless they saw or heard him. He was also super sweet and cuddly. They are not outside dogs though they are more lap and playful dogs.
  24. We secularized Sonlight for World History with my oldest and we are using Book Shark For American History for the next two years. I plan on doing things very differently with my little one though. I have Galloping the Globe, American Adventures, Story of the World, BKSK American History & Eastern Hemisphere and SL Core W World History. The goal is just to do them by 8th grade LOL
