  1. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! YOU DESERVE A PARADE OR TWO IN YOUR HONOR!!! Please let us know how you spent this special day... :hurray: :hurray: :hurray:
  2. :grouphug: :grouphug: Heh, heh... I just had a feeling it might have been your son. BTDT myself with a teen boy many moons ago... IME, it genuinely sounds like somewhat typical teen male behavior, particularly if he is peeved about the curfew. That in no way makes the attitude acceptable or tolerable, just that it doesn't sounds especially abnormal either. Now what you elect to DO about it is a whole 'nother topic... ETA: I agree with WoolySocks. Give it no credence. Just ignore him. The less reaction you display, the quicker he will tire of playing the aversion game! :coolgleamA:
  3. Re: meds. Non drowsy Allegra works wonders for my allergy prone troops. Look for some throat lozenges too. There are a myriad of flavors available from mint to citrus to berry. Re: comfort measures. Hot tea (perhaps with honey) or even hot water (plain or flavored with lemon or citrus.) Soft non scratchy foods like scrambled eggs, cream of wheat, pudding, yogurt, jello "ish" type stuff. Hope recovery is quick! If it is allergy related, as soon as the throat drainage stops, the sore throat will magically disappear. PS... Hi!!! :001_cool:
  4. :hurray: :hurray: :hurray: What a happy update for all involved! Once again, when doors close, windows open. I am genuinely delighted for all of you. My gosh, due to Iker's unexpected illness and his inability to travel under the group "umbrella," you and your family are literally providing a life changing experience for a young man who is already here! How wonderful is that? Not to mention that you and your sweet family will have the summer hosting experience that you have been planning for... :001_wub: CONGRATULATIONS!!!
  5. A few questions: What kind of car? What year? Overall condition? Other issues? Cost of repair? Cost of replacement? All of these factors would play innto the decision. Feel free to post your answers if you are so inclined! :thumbup1:
  6. You and yours continue to be under the "Hive Umbrella,' which encompasses every prayer, good thought, well wish, and everything else, that we can communally send your way! :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: and Love from all of us. We are "One In Spirit," with YOU!
  7. YOU are an amazing friend!!! :hurray: A Couple of Quick Ideas: Shredded, stewed chicken (br**st meat, if possible) in gallon zip loc freezer bags Cooked, crumbled hamburger meat in gallon zip loc freezer bags (along with spaghetti sauce and noodles and parm perhaps?) Frozen plain or fried rice ( with cooked chicken or pork in it) in gallon zip loc freezer bags (possibly include soy sauce and fortune cookies, would be #cool) Marinated Chicken Br**sts (or any other meat) in a Marinade with buns or condiments Sweet and Sour Pork in gallon zip loc bags. Send rice too! Cooked beans! Ditto rice. Pre-made, Ready To Bake Casseroles: (a la Hamburger Noodle Bake or Chicken Divan or Curry Sauce with Rice or Chicken Spaghetti) Pre-made Burger Patties with all the fixings...
  8. :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: and Prayers. For All. Will be ongoing! Stay strong, RC.
  9. Yup, it's definitely you. :coolgleamA: Sweet lil Luna gives you away every time... :thumbup1:
  10. Politely requesting photographic evidence that this... *ahem* momentary indiscretion absolutely, positively did NOT Happen!   #cantwait
  11. Check out this vintage cookbook on Amazon. Good Cheap Food by Ungerer. I have the 1973 hardcover edition and would grab it right after my children, in case of fire or flood! It's seriously that fabulous. The recipe and write up for beans and rice are out of this world yummy. https://www.amazon.com/Good-Cheap-Food-Miriam-Ungerer/dp/0880014881/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1498829251&sr=8-1&keywords=good+cheap+food My personal favorite lightening fast way to enjoy beans and rice is ridiculously simple: Black beans placed on top of cooked rice, heated for one minute in the microwave. After one minute, sprinkle with sharp grated cheddar cheese and heat for one additional minute. Then I drizzle balsamic vinegar over top and swoon. :svengo:
  12. Depending on where your part time student is from, she might be absolutely delighted and utterly fascinated by the opportunity to experience farm life. Don't overlook the obvious or sell yourself short. If she hails from a city, just the concept of farming would probably delight her to no end. You could show her the farm, let her help with chores if she was so inclined, have a scrumptious summer picnic, and maybe just enjoy a lazy afternoon in the country. Sometimes the greatest times are actually the simplest. I'm so glad you have found a bright spot in the midst of this disappointment. She is a lucky girl. :001_smile:
  13. :crying: :crying: :crying: You are SO brave! :hurray: :hurray: :hurray:
  14. :grouphug: I am so sorry! You have been planning for months to make this a wonderful experience for both Iker and your family. Is it possible to 'do something' tonight to get out of the house for a bit just to take the edge off of the disappointment? Not to "fix it" by any stretch. Just thinking of an outing or a small diversion...even something like going for ice cream. Again, I am so sorry for all of you. Please keep us updated.
  15.     That's 5 parades here, folks! (For his amazing Momma!) Over the years, hasn't he "flown" off of dressers and bunk beds, and worn a helmet, and required a virtually padded room, and consumed an inordinate amount of your remaining brain cells, and ... been worth every single second??? #adorable #allyourkiddosareadorable
  16. What do you have? What are your parameters? We'll help you brainstorm!
  17. :001_wub: :001_wub: :001_wub: Gorgeous. Simply gorgeous. Congratulations!
  18. Praying here for both of you. :grouphug: Deep breaths...you can do this.
  19. Google: Manuka Honey for wound healing Amazon sells it for sure. It has worked wonders for us. This is not a *paid testimony!* PS---I am a licensed RN so not "anti-medicine!" :P Edit: Added info
  20. Lizzie.. More :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: coming your way. You, and Jenna, and your entire family remain in my thoughts and prayers. IMHO, this is wonderful news, strangely enough. Generally speaking, when the proverbial "Pros from Dover" strenuously feel that a patient is not ready to be discharged to home care, the patient is genuinely NOT READY to be discharged home. BTDT a couple of years ago with one of mine (inpatient for anorexia related issues, but inpatient just the same.) The Docs had a true finger on the pulse of exactly how "unready for discharge" our dd actually was during several points in time. Transitional care is probably a huge step in the right direction and things are definitely looking up if the danger doesn't seem to be 24/7. Sometimes you simply have to find and hold tightly to small glimmers of hope... You are a strong woman and an even stronger Momma! :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:
  21. Atta Girl... You are on the right track! :hurray: Now follow Steph's suggestion and send something... :coolgleamA:
  22. Oh Lizzie... :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: I am literally typing through tears. You and your family and especially your precious Jenna are in my prayers. Please don't ever hesitate to reach out to your friends here. We will not let you down. I have personal experience with a dd who (in earlier years) also had broken heart and soul. Prayer was and still is my constant companion. Never give up. Miracles DO happen. Sending love your way.
  23. :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: You have extended grace and support to so many people on this board over the years. PLEASE try to extend some of the same to yourself. This was an accident. That doesn't make it any less real, or any less painful, or any less devastating, but it certainly was not something that you planned or anticipated. Grieve for as long as you need, without guilt, but please try not to blame yourself. You have carried so much for so long, let this board support you (virtually!) :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:
  24. IMHO, I would do whatever works best for *YOU.* Just because you reached out and asked Coach #1 to get you started does not constitute a lifetime working relationship. At this time in your life, the other coach seems to be a better fit for your needs and your funds. Put your yourself first. Go with your gut, girl! :hurray: :hurray:
