  1. Congratulations! That's a long one!! And 52 books... I just finished book 17 ;-). Miss Minimalist: Inspiration to Downsize, Declutter, and Simplify. Quick and easy reading. I never get tired of reading about minimalism.
  2. My 5 and almost 8 year old liked it (especially Dd). I loved it. However, it did make Dh and me cry several times, and I rarely cry at movies. It was sad thinking about all the things a child "loses" as they grow up and maybe what a troubled/misbehaving child is going through inside.
  3. Just finished book #16 - The Magician's Book: A Skeptic's Adventures in Narnia recommended by someone here, I believe. Loved it! So interesting. Now I want to read the books (or at least the first one). Dh thought it was funny I could enjoy a book about a book I'd never read.
  4. Finally finished book #15! I'm behind by nine books! ahhhh! Still, I'm finishing more books than I have in previous years, so I guess it's okay. :-) Book #1 - So Many Books, So Little Time: A Year of Passionate Reading #2 - Keep Calm and Parent On: A Guilt-Free Approach to Raising Children by Asking More from Them and Doing Less 3 - Essentialism: The Disciplined Pursuit of Less 4 - If They Give You Lined Paper, Write Sideways 5 - God Is Not Great 6 - The Paying Guests 7 - The Varieties of Scientific Experience: A Personal View of the Search for God 8 - Book, Line, and Sinker 9 - The Catcher in the Rye 10 - Childhood's End 11 - Books Can Be Deceiving 12 - The Strange Library 13 - The Girl On the Train 14 - Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl 15 - The Time Paradox: The New Psychology of Time That Will Change Your Life ETA: Also, I'm sorry I'm not keeping up with the thread. I read it every now and then, but not often. :o
  5. My kids are in elementary, and I'm thinking age/grade-level matters, but this is what I do: Math: I save all reviews and tests and then turn it in to our EC (teacher from homeschool charter). The rest of it, I throw away. Handwriting/Spelling/EtC: save a couple of samples each month to turn in to our EC, and throw the rest away. I keep a detailed list of all the books we read (audiobooks, read alouds, independent reading) and turn that in to our EC. I also keep a copy of this in OneNote. History, Science, Geography, Art, etc.: We mostly read and do a couple of projects or some writing about what we read. The books are on the reading list, and I take pictures of the projects to show our EC and keep in OneNote. Some of the physical projects/writing I keep in a bin in the garage, but a lot of it gets thrown away after the pictures are taken and put in OneNote. Basically everything gets thrown away, given to our EC, or stored in OneNote. A few precious items get stored in the garage.
  6. This is great! I've been going through a similar "transformation" in the last year.
  7. A few months into this year I discovered what works for us (at least during these elementary years). Things went pretty well from January through May. Five months! 😃. So I'm excited about starting the new year out right and (hopefully!) sticking with this method for the whole year.
  8. At least an hour. My kids are five and seven. After lunch I read some SotW, some sort of book about character/manners/moral lessons, and some poetry or good literature that they can both enjoy (currently Wizard of Oz series). Before bed Dh and I read to the kids. We switch kids every night. Right now I'm reading Tuck Everlasting to M(7) and Henry and Ribsy to j(5). I'm hoping to keep this up for another eight years. :) It's our favorite part of the day. Well, that and playing board games...
  9. Eight. I check my email every day, unsubscribe to stuff I no longer want to receive regularly, put stuff that I need to keep in OneNote, and delete!
  10. We started Explode the Code very young, but I let them skip a lot of the writing parts because they weren't ready for that yet.
  11. Just finished book #14 - Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl. I never read it in school.
  12. every two weeks, except pillowcases - those are changed twice a week
  13. I am so behind! Mostly it's because I've gone back to my bad habit of reading five or more books at a time. :o Last night I finished book #13. It was The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins. I LOVED it. But I also loved Gone Girl. I'm still working on my book in Spanish, I'm reading a book about minimalism (again), I'm reading The Diary of a Young Girl, and I was reading The Happiness Project until I had to return it... I also have about seven other books on my shelf from the library. This is why I need to read one (maybe two) books at a time. I often end up having to return the books before I can finish them.
  14. Listening in. j is dead set on taking ballet next year. Our dance studio doesn't offer it for boys (they said they're not trained in boys' ballet?), so first I have to find a place...
  15. Thank you, Lori. Your post was very helpful! I tend to be like the op's dc. I just don't see the themes, etc. very easily. I love reading and I love reading others' analysis; I just have a hard time coming up with my own. I have How to Read Literature Like a Professor but haven't read it yet. I'll put it next on my list.
  16. I cannot believe that it's been three months and my plan still hasn't changed. Progress!
  17. This plus eating well and exercising. And trying to get more sleep. Except keeping things trimmed/shaved and moisturizing can take up a lot of time when you're hairy with very dry skin... :-)
  18. May I ask which UU books you're going to use? ETA: also, how long have you used GV and how do you like it?
  19. Sounds like a great idea! I will be clearing out all unneeded school stuff, going through my notes/ideas for next year, rereading The Self-Propelled Advantage, putting together my kids' new planners, and buying school supplies in July and August. I don't think I'll allow myself to do anything else before then. We will be doing a half hour of school a day during June and July - mostly review.
  20. This might be a stupid question, but: Is there a way to share a OneNote page with someone that doesn't have OneNote?

  23. Dh and I traveled around Europe using a Eurail pass ten years ago, but this was before we had kids. We're hoping to visit Germany and Austria with the kids in two years. I'll be following this thread, as I have the same questions.
