  1. We had good success with memorizing multiplication facts using Multiplication by Heart on Mathigon.org. Also agreeing with @HomeAgain, not an app, but we really liked the Facts that Stick series by Kate Snow (addition was our favorite).
  2. A lot of this sounds very similar to my 18yo DD. She had bad periods and went on BCP. She hasn't been diagnosed with EDS, but I'm pretty sure she has it. And she was exhausted and fainting frequently. Our pediatrician referred her to a pediatric cardiologist who quickly diagnosed her with POTS. He ended up prescribing her 3 different medications, but one in particular seems to be the most helpful (corlanor/iverbradine). The medication helps a lot, but it's not perfect.
  3. Current plans for my youngest: Math- Math With Confidence Grade 6 (pilot testing) Spelling- AAS finish 5 and most of 6 Grammar- Winston Grammar Advanced Writing- Hake Literature- Mosdos Press Pearl History- probably Curiosity Chronicles paired with History Unboxed (ancients) Science- probably Science Mom Chemistry and some other stuff thrown in Electives- theater, choir, and baking classes
  4. My 5th grader has been using her earth science this year. I think it's great, she thinks it's OK. My older daughter did their biology when she was in 7th and loved it. She is now in 8th and doing physics and enjoys it. I think you can watch a sample lesson on YouTube. Some kids are turned off by the "goofiness" but my kids think it's great.
  5. My brother faints at the sight or mention of blood. His wife has a heart condition that requires a fair amount of doctor visits, blood draws, etc. So this has been a problem in the past. He finds that if he has a purpose, he is less likely to faint, so taking notes, having a list of questions etc. He has also learned to quickly sit down and elevate his feet, even if it is embarrassing. He still faints sometimes.
  6. I learned it in kindergarten and my 5 year old niece was singing it with me just the other day 😄
  7. It's been a long time since I had kids in this age group, but I thought starfall.com was pretty high quality for pre-k skills. I don't know if they have an app or not.
  8. Well, hopefully I can fix it later. I have read differing opinions about this, some say check the box if you get free lunch for any reason, others say only if you would income qualify. Our school is a title one school so we often get the benefits of that even though our income wouldn't qualify us. For instance, we get free SAT testing and were able to get free college applications, etc. So I felt like I was supposed to check the box 😬.
  9. Quoting myself here because I found out why I didn't have to report assets. I checked the box stating that a member of our household receives free school lunch, which my (public schooled) kids do, as does every kid in my state attending public school. So that's interesting. I don't know if once they retrieve my IRS information I will be asked to provide my assets based on our income or if we will be exempt.
  10. I was able to log on and submit today, but it didn't ask me about assets at all. I did give permission for the IRS retrieval, but I don't know if I missed something or what. This is my first time doing FAFSA.
  11. My geeky teens are into D&D. Last year they got some of the D&D guidebooks, sometimes Amazon has them in their by 2 get one free sale. They also got dice, apparently you can never have enough fancy dice sets. Also D&D themed shirts are easy to find.
  12. Our local high school (my oldest two attend) no longer offers any honors classes. You can choose AP if it's offered or you are in the general ed class for that subject. My kids have both taken some of their AP courses just to avoid being in general ed for the subject (because it's so abysmally taught). Because our school is a Title I school, we pay $5 per AP exam, the school pays the rest, so almost every student in the class takes the exam. Our pass rates are not great, depending on the subject there might only be 2 or 3 kids who pass (math and science mostly, other subjects have higher pass rates).
  13. Science Mom has a one semester chemistry course. It's aimed at 4th and 5th grade, but it might work for your family. We've used some of her other courses and really enjoyed them, but haven't done chemistry yet. https://sciencemom.teachable.com/p/chemistry
  14. I think it depends on what you are using it on. We have been very successful using it on a newer Kindle Fire, but I can't imagine using it in a phone, for example. For me, it's been worth every penny and I have no complaints.
  15. My daughter made the opposite mistake when making cinnamon toast. The results were not good, haha!
  16. Today was my grandmother's birthday. She would be 93. ❤️ Happy Birthday!
  17. My daughter takes Ivabradine and it seems the pharmacy has to special order it every month. It takes forever to be delivered. She's a mess without it. I hope they're able to get a good supply of it for you.
  18. I would say same age, it's pretty similar, just more streamlined.
  19. I hadn't even thought of that. Our school put in a new policy this year - no phones out during class. My DS always has his in his pocket, but DD's pockets are too small. However, every time they have been locked down (not a drill, due to actual threats) they have both communicated with me. They always casually mention where they are. I think they want to come across as not afraid, but they are. My DD said something like "we're all in the band room closet, but if a shooter comes in I think I have a better chance of surviving than others." 😭
  20. I would look at Analytical Grammar or Jr. Analytical Grammar.
  21. My girls prefer the U by Kotex products, both pads and tampons. Not dancers though, so I can't comment on that.
