Chili freezes very well. My mom freezes it in Tupperware, I just use a freezer bag. In fact, I find that chili tastes better after it "ages" some. Crock-pot oatmeal? I had no idea you could do that. I have a crock-pot, but I haven't made friends with it yet. I should probably dust it off and try using it.

Two questions about bre@stmilk/nursing.
Dawn in OH replied to *********'s topic in General Education Discussion Board
During the early months with all 4 babies I often felt as though someone swung a bag of bricks at my chest. It was over quickly most of the time, but it was shocking. I was also a milk shooter. I never leaked during pregnancy. -
How would you cook these pork chops?
Dawn in OH replied to aggieamy's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I'm probably a little late to help you this time. But in the future: I pan fry pork chops in my cast iron skillet, but I season them with garlic powder and Lawry's Seasoning Salt. I think just salt and pepper is a bit bland. -
I'm so tired of my kids not listening!!

Hey, this is us. 8, 10, and a 3 year old copycat. I hear a lot of NO. The last time I asked for toys to get picked up so I could vacuum and my request wasn't filled, I started chucking toys into the garbage can. We also have a "no garbage picking" rule. I get taken a little more seriously now. -
Very nice.

I have a favorite coffee cup, but I think my reasons for it being my favorite are different than other people's reasons. I like the shape of my cup, it holds just the right amount of coffee for me, the feel of it in my hand, and the weight of it. Granted it is in a color I like, but it's my favorite because of the feel of the cup. When I need a new cup I have to shop around handling various cups. This one's too tall. This one's too narrow. The handle doesn't feel right in my hand. It's almost like buying shoes.

Are you part of a homeschool group or coop?
Dawn in OH replied to mom2samlibby's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I applied to one, but it's got a very long waiting list, and their annual fee is $80 per family plus a donation twice a year (amount of your choosing) to go to the secretary and maintenance person of the church it is housed in. There's a new one starting up this fall that we can get into, and their fee is $30 per family per semester. There's 2 semesters. In both cases, the money is to go to the church that provides the space. The fee is not for the Co-Op itself. Depending on the class you sign up for, there may be materials fees, payable to the "instructor". -
Under 10, I keep them short. We have frequent "get up and move around" breaks too. The only time there is a long lesson (more than 15 minutes of me talking/reading) is if the kids are really interested. We had a science lesson once that went on for half the day. Honestly, my attention span was shot after an hour, but they were having a good time.

Funny you should mention getting a burger, because that is what I was going to suggest for dinner. Grilled outside by Dad of course!

What's on your nightstand?
Dawn in OH replied to love2read's topic in General Education Discussion Board
The Canterbury Tales Stranger in a Strange Land Hmm, and one other. I can't remember what. The baby is sleeping and I'm afraid to look until I'm ready to stay there. -

MMORPG person....retired. I liked it too much. I'd love to play again, but, I cannot limit myself to just "an hour a day". The games were addictive. The on-line friends were nice when you don't have real-life friends. And I'm very passionate and overdo everything. I never should have even clicked on this thread.

Baby: pacifier or thumb?
Dawn in OH replied to plain jane's topic in General Education Discussion Board
None of my 4 were really interested in a pacifier or a thumb, but at some point I did offer a crying baby a pacifier. The youngest actually used one for a short time at bedtime only, but at 13 months has already grown out of it. I prefer the pacifier. I can throw it out. I can't get rid of a thumb. -
Give me a clue what is a decent price
Dawn in OH replied to Liz CA's topic in General Education Discussion Board
We were paying $2.50 lb for half a cow. Pastured. No growth hormones or antibiotics. That was what we paid last summer. I'm sure the price has gone up some by now. I would pay more if I had to. I've seen the prices in the stores, and what I was getting was better meat. Last time I was in WalMart their ground chuck was $3.59 lb, GROUND CHUCK! I was getting roasts and steaks for less than that. -
Do you ever homeschool outside the home?
Dawn in OH replied to ChristusG's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Last year when I had to have a 3 hour glucose test the kids and I did our school work in the hospital atrium. They were very productive that day. It only worked for us because my husband had my younger son at Micro-center with him. I had forgotten how well that day worked for us. Maybe we should pack up and get out more. -
I need a couple of recipes please
Dawn in OH replied to Dawn in OH's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Thanks ladies! Looks like a lot of possible guacamole to play with. I appreciate that. The last recipe we got from a friend was really really bland. I've also gotten some good ideas for the baked beans here, too. I'm hoping to use dry beans because lately every can of beans I pick up, except black beans, seems to have either sugar or HFCS added. -

That was us a few years ago. The kids were about under or around 1, 6 and almost 8. It was also during summer, so it was seriously intruding on our fun months. (We don't do winter, and we have about 8 months of it here). It was rough on me. We had one car, living in an apartment, with my husband working 12 hour shifts, sometimes more, 5-6 days a week. Luckily Grandma had a big car, and a big yard, and came and picked us up many Saturdays for a day at her house. We also had a play date that came to us once a week. Those two things really helped my sanity. I used to describe it as being a stay-at-home single mom with a nice child support check, and a boyfriend that dropped by for teA, laundry, and meals.

If you like the name Isabella, you might like...

:iagree: I've always loved the name Isabella. Kind of sorry that I will never get to use it.
