  1. My pediatrician: You should give your kids 5 vaccines today because it is easier for the office staff. My vet: You should only give your dog this one vaccine so if she has a reaction we know which vaccine caused it. 🤯
  2. I went to an obgyn complaining of symptoms of estrogen dominance and PCOS. I was diagnosed in high school and have probably had 5 unmedicated cycles in my entire life. She didn't want to take my word for it and insisted on a variety of tests - fine. After lots of blood work and an ultrasound she agrees this is the problem. She would like to "wait and see if it resolves itself". 🤯 It has been 26 years. Exactly how long are we going to wait for spontaneous resolution? Her response ENRAGED me. And I get that I need to find someone else to help me, but WTF? I guess I just need to vent. My husband thinks its just bureaucracy at work but admits this "bureaucracy" has never been applied to his own medical treatment. Please don't quote.
  3. This is super helpful. I’m taking notes...
  4. The thin pot suggestion is a good one and an excuse to replace an undesirable stock pot! I think part of my concern is that we do not eat any canned foods, except for the occasional diced tomatoes that get mixed into something, so we don't even really have a pantry. Your suggestion are very helpful. I have never heard of the wonderbag before. Thanks!!!
  5. This feels like something that would have already been discussed here, but Google is giving me nothing. For those of you who feel like you are well prepared for an emergency, what are your supplies like? How did you decide on them? Do you rotate? Do you also have a deep freezer and a generator? Our most likely emergency is earthquake - so let's assume temperate weather, no power, multiple days.
  6. I thought it was "worth it" and my student generally liked it. However, the films were not what I expected. I would recommend reading the description of each film (or reviews) to see if it is what you're looking for.
  7. Congratulations!!! ❤️❤️❤️
  8. Tutor is an interesting idea. I'm afraid that left to books alone the prep work won't get done.
  9. @Garga would you be willing to update with your PrepScholar experience? Thanks!
  10. My son and I are currently working through The Great Courses series by Philip Daileader. I cannot stand them. I would prefer an open course where a professor is actually teaching to students. Yale has a course that looks good, but it only covers the early period. Googling has not brought up other options. Does anyone have a suggestion for covering the high and late middle ages? Should I just force myself through Daileader?
  11. Fair enough. I searched Amazon before posting, but the reviews are mixed. Since my kid is going to do a big eye roll on the topic I thought someone might have a GREAT suggestion that would make it more palatable. 😉
  12. I am looking for a book/website that describes majors and what types of jobs they typically lead to. Any suggestions?
  13. I agree that it sounds like the game I saw. I have never heard of it before. Thanks!!
  14. This looks like it might be it. Thanks!!!
  15. I saw a couple playing a card game in Starbucks and am hoping that someone can identify what game they were playing. Appeared to be a standard deck of cards, two players. Each player had four (?) cards in front of them, face down, in an upside down T formation. They could (at least periodically) look at their table cards. There was a draw pile between them. On some turns player A would take one of player B's table cards and replace it with one of their cards or vice versa. Any ideas?
  16. We own a Soda Stream which we never use. Now we own an Aarke which we LOVE.
  17. Glues, adhesives, and binders have latex in them.
  18. I heard Jon Young speak - he was amazing. I just wanted to listen to him forever. ❤️
  19. We have a very similar situation going on over here including a 5 hr a day sports commitment. I thought my student was wasting time or not managing his time effectively. Then I sat down with an excel spreadsheet. I put in all his classes, as well as a reasonable sleep schedule. I put in all the sports practices and travel times. Then I asked how long homework for each class typically takes and when it is done. The result was eye opening - there is fundamentally not enough time for the work load. A well organized, highly motivated, brilliant adult couldn’t get it done. Never mind a hormonal, growing teen. I would ask him, for each of his classes, “if I FORCED you to drop this, would you feel relief?” This is how I trick myself to get beyond “but I want to...” Also, his counselor letter should include info about how his course load compares to what is AVAILABLE. For example here the boys’ private school will let them take unlimited APs, while the girls’ school will only let them take three. Everyone knows schools differ and it is unfair to compare “unlimited” to “3”. Get him off of Reddit. Those forums make MY anxiety go through the roof. Also, they are TEENS on an ANONYMOUS Internet forum. Half of them are lying. As a kid who burned out before college I say pull him back. Drop something. Delay something. Drop two things. Colleges are also looking for kids who have coping strategies. Find those for him - yoga, mediation, hot showers, foam rolling, cryotherapy, infared saunas, etc. It’s difficult to know how hard to play the game, but I think right now he’s over his limit. ❤️
  20. Diagnostic exam given and he did WORSE than I was expecting, and I was expecting pretty bad. 🤯
  21. This is good info. I'll pull a test and see how it goes.
  22. I think that the teacher is expecting more than the exam figuring that they will be over prepared. However in our case it is backfiring and feeling like we are trying to nail jello to a tree. Thanks for the info comparing the books. Sounds like a diagnostic test is the way to go.
