  1. Although she said no to the test and that wasn't enough. In this case it sounds like an innocent mistake, but that isn't always the case. I said "NO!" to a specific drug and then was given it secretly thru an IV by a nurse who decided she knew better. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23] You and me both. Um, I mean your friend. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. I'd go to the ortho you liked before. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. Our local tutor took one look at where my son (Lukeion 2a) was in Wheelock's and said that her private school students were in the exact same spot. Except they were THIRD year HONORS students. I wasn't sure if I should laugh or cry.
  5. We are facing similar issues. Other classes with lots of assigned work and daily crew practice. On one hand I think, well maybe rowing is taking up too much time, but also I'm not sure that more time would solve the issue. With the midterm he knew all vocabulary, all forms, etc. The paragraph of translation killed his grade. And the time given to take the test is not enough to be able to calmly puzzle through the text. The test is FAST. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. This doesn't really solve the issue when you're trying to use an outside instructor. I can't change a grade someone else gave him. I guess I could add work to mastery and then give the grade from ME, but then it is my grade kwim? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. Thanks all. Lots to think about. I would agree that I have many different issues intertwined. I think his course load in general is heavy - lots of writing in history and English. Those are also outside courses, so we are keeping up with someone else's schedule. In an ideal world he would learn for the sake of learning and grades wouldn't matter. However since he will be applying to colleges this isn't really reality. This class is certainly WAY beyond any language class I took in high school, but it's not like I get to put an asterisk next to the grade and say "this would have been an A at the local PS". My sense is that 2b is even more intense. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. Please help me figure out what to do. I want to give up and be done, but I could be convinced to solider on. My son (currently 14) took Latin 1 last year with Mrs. Barr at Lukeion. It was a lot of work, but he received an A each semester, and a silver medal on the NLE. This year DS is in Latin 2. PSQ was fine, almost perfect scores on noun-a-poloza and verb-a-poloza. Then a startling 76% on a test. Thinking he wasn't studying enough I forced midterm studying to the exclusion of everything else. I have never seen a kid so prepared for a test. He got a disappointing 86%. This week's homework almost killed both of us. Then when you go to turn it in there is MORE work. Usually just a few checkpoint questions, but today it was like a mini quiz tacked onto the homework. It feels like we are both drowning. He can't make it without LOTS of support and study help. But I barely squeaked thru high school French. The whole thing makes me stressed, and makes me feel like a really big (and dumb) failure. My ideals of Latin thru the AP test are clearly not going to happen. My husband keeps telling me to try harder/longer, but frankly it isn't his life being consumed by this class. I feel like if he drops out now, it was all for "nothing". He will need to start over with a modern language for high school credit. If we drag through and he gets a bad grade, then it will drag his GPA down. Have you dropped out of Lukeion? Did you feel amazing relief? Was it the biggest mistake ever???
  9. I get the celiac rash, but only on my belly and in my ears. So it's possible to have it in nontraditional locations. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. That sounds really overwhelming. Could you go to a laundromat? At least then you could do all the loads of laundry at once.
  11. THANK YOU!!!! No amount of googling was helping. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. Which latin verb tense translates to "he kept .....ing". Like "he kept terrifying her" or "she kept kissing him"? I guess that would be an ongoing action in the past??
  13. I had a professor admit that once he walked into a giant lecture hall and said "is everyone here for geography 101?" And as 700 students tried to figure out how they ended up in the wrong class HE realized HE was in the wrong building. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. I don't understand all the driving advisories. I mean, people drive at night, right? Is it because of all the blind animals that will be staggering around??? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. People who videotape parades or fireworks. The sound of toe nail clipping or shoe shuffling. People who misuse apostrophes to pluralize, especially on their Christmas cards. People who stand in a long line, and then don't know what they are ordering when it is finally their turn. Voicemail.
  16. This list is fascinating. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. I've tried searching in a variety of ways - if I've missed a previous version of this thread, feel free to just link me. I am looking for a list of awards that students can earn. Things like National Latin Exam, President's Service Award, Congressional Award, etc. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. A phrase that really helped during my very confrontational birth was "Is this an emergency? Can we have a minute to discuss this?" Find a doula if you can. Around here there are volunteer doulas, maybe there are in your area too? I hope your birth is safe and comfortable. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. I've been thinking about your family all day. Much love to you and yours. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. Amelia Bedelia and Bearenstein Bears. Fancy Nancy. And the f***ing Henry and Mudge book about Mother's Day. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. The drinking culture in my neighborhood is VERY strong and it certainly does affect others. Obnoxious behavior, inability/unwillingness to chaperone their own children, etc. That's before we even talk about drunk driving, or other costs to society like medical costs or productivity. Just because our society has *chosen to view* alcohol differently than cigarettes or heroin, doesn't mean that alcohol isn't harmful to others. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. Thanks! I was planning to use sign up genius but I'll check this out. Still looks like I have to create the # of slots though. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. I am organizing a potluck for 80 families. Each family will sign up via list of choices (main, side, green salad, fruit, dessert). My question is, how do I break down how many I need of each category? 15 mains, 15 sides, 10 green salads, etc.. Help!
  24. I need a product to organize a parent booster club. I need to be able to input email addresses, email the group, email only certain members. I need to be able to assign people to multiple categories/tasks like "varsity" AND "carpool driver". I also need to be able to add files of things like maps, agendas, etc. I want a parent to be able to log in and access information, or look at a work group and email someone. Teamsnap is a bit of a disaster. Something like G Suites would work, but is WAY too expensive. Help!!!
