  1. My secret is eating enough and not listening to MFP. :) I instead calculated my TDEE and don't take more than a 10% deficit. 165+ grams of protein, 25+ grams of fiber. Macros at 40/30/30. But I started with staying in my calorie range (my 10% cut is 2070.) once I was consistent I added getting in enough protein (.82-1 g/lb of your body weight). Then I worked on getting enough fiber daily. Then I focused on getting my macros close.
  2. I've never spent more than $322 on a years worth of homeschool material. Its usually closer to $200. I let my kids chose 1 activity per season from the rec center. Sometimes its robotics, sometimes swimming, sometimes soccer. These are very affordable through our rec center- $20-$50. So, curriculum and extras- $600.
  3. We're using the original. The lesson usually only takes 15-30 minutes depending on attitude and focus lol. I don't do every part of the meeting every day but kinda rotate through. Saxon also randomly throws in meeting strip sheets in the second workbook (i bought my book used and didn't see a strip in the front, it could have been torn out). You could fill out the strip ahead of time and she could do it independantly
  4. My 4th grader will be doing: Saxon 5/4 Saxon grammar and writing 5 Hoffman academy for piano Co-op (science and art)
  5. For my 1st grader: Saxon 2 Finish WWE 1 Hoffman academy for piano Co-op (science and art)
  6. I kinda doubt manning will retire. I hope if we lose its close and interesting. I hope its not a blow out. And i hope we don't have lots of interceptions. And i hope dt can catch!
  7. The flavia de luce books by alan bradley
  8. You can use cast iron on a glass stove top. All i use is cast iron. We have some multiples i.e. Nail clippers, water bottles, etc but each person has their own & only one. Minus my multiple lovin husband.
  9. -i guess i never noticed that the "free" option was a few more dollars a month. -i could get a smart phone for super cheap but say it breaks or i need a new one then i end up paying full price for a new smart phone, plus the monthly data. -i'd prefer to not have a phone haha -the cheapest option online at verizon is $50 for a flip open phone.
  10. What happened to going into verizon and getting a cheap phone every 2 years? Even a basic flip phone is $50+ Will basic phones be phased out soon anyways?

Work is good. And its good for every member of the house to help out. I do think people should be paid for work though, not every chore has to be a payable one. We adults are motivated by money and reward for our efforts. I'd give him a small amount and a 3 fold piggy bank so he can learn about saving, giving, and having a little to spend (later on).
  12. Anything to do to in vegas with kids aged 3, 6, & 8 ? Perferrably free or on the cheap? I will have a car to drive!
  13. Do you have a park nearby? I used to put my littlest ones in a stroller and i would throw a frisbee or punt a football for my older boys. They'd get more exercise running back and forth and i would not completely wear myself out lol. As for indoors in the cold though... My kids love doing kids zumba. I just search for the videos on youtube and its free :)
  14. AR does NOT stand for assault rifle. But the media uses it because it does sound "bad."
  15. Strength training does burn a lot of calories (and it helps you continually burn cals) but fitbits and hr monitors do not accurately count those.
  16. Love this thread. I'm glad there are others who believe its okay to do less. My kids are younger but here is what we do: co-op weekly (art, music & science). Math-saxon daily. I teach, they do the worksheets. My 6 yo does require some help. English- excellence in writing. Dvd for my 8 yo independent. Wwe 1 for my 6 yo or copywork- usually what we are memorizing (often bible verses). They do sequential spelling on dvd independently. We read the bible together. Read alouds or audio books. Occasionally we read a page from a history encyclopedia and draw something about it. Then check out books if interested.
  17. I hope to be engaged and interested but not a pushover where my grandchildren think its okay to be rude and disrespectful. So basically i want to take the best parts of my children's grandparents and leave out the bad ;)
  18. I had big babies but i blame my husband for that ;) he was almost 7 pounds when born at 34 weeks. I was full-term at 4 pounds 9 ounces. Our kids were 8-7, 9-6, & 8-7 born between 39w4d and 41w5d
  19. Do it! I downsized from a 3 ft tree to a tiny 1 foot tree. I have only mini ornaments and a mini navitity set ( always been too cheap to buy a bigger one). So much less stuff (and i didn't have that much to begin with. Not if only i could actually tackle our problem areas lol)
  20. I always interpreted 1 Cor. 11:15 as if one is praying in church. The church we went to where at least half of the women covered was the church where women did not speak in church. at all.
  21. There were only a few decent, big enough houses (our house is roughly 1600 sq ft and I don't think that's unreasonable for a family of 5 who homeschools and works at home aka is home all day long!) in our price range.
  22. Would you recommend the level that corresponds to the child's "grade" level?
  23. Help! Maybe it was climbing parnassus (sp?) or an article (dr. Perrin? Circe inst?) But it was about having your students compose in latin (write in latin and translate to english in order to help them focus on what they are saying, choosing the best words to describe what they are saying, something like that). Any ideas? And if you know what i am talking about and have any experience to add on how to implement? Or other resources that help one implement it would be greatly appreciated!
