  1. Yes! I forgot about chewing gum! Definitely worth a try.
  2. Okay. The only thing that worked for me was the prescription combo of vitamin B6 and the antihistamine doxylamine. I gather it's now called Diclegis. Honestly, it just took the edge off the nausea, but it made it bearable. I had to get it at a compounding pharmacy, but it might be more widely available now. You have my sympathy regarding the OCD meds. I wonder if there is any SSRI or other alternative that is safe during pregnancy? :grouphug:
  3. Mergath!!! I am so happy for you! Just a minute and I'l compose myself and read the rest of your post.
  4. I agree with a PP that you should determine what constitutes true Christianity for you, not so that you can try to impose it on your adult children, but so that you will "always [be] ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and reverence" (1 Peter 3:15). Know what you believe and why so that when the occasion arises, you can continue to gently share your beliefs with your children, using the Bible as the basis for those beliefs. Culture changes, feelings change, "but the Word of the Lord endures forever" (1 Peter 1:25). Just to touch on a few examples you gave--you are right that the Bible does not say Christians cannot drink, only that they should not become drunk. Scripture discourages coarse joking and taking the Lord's name in vain, but doesn't necessarily prohibit all strong language. Fornication is something that is clearly prohibited for Christians, as is becoming "unequally yoked" to an unbeliever in marriage. However, as you know, those are choices your children will have to make for themselves. Just be there to offer your gentle, loving advice, especially if asked, and pray, pray, pray! I think your children's criticism of people who "cherry pick" Scripture is a very fair one. I believe all of the New Testament is for believers today and that consistency in how we apply it to our lives is important. Honestly, it sounds like you did a lot of really good things while raising your children, particularly with a husband who was not always on the same page as you. We *all* have regrets. I know I have some major ones. We do the best we can at the time. That is all we can do. If you believe you were truly remiss in some way, ask God for forgiveness, put it behind you, and move forward. There a lot of people here who are willing to pray for you and your kids! :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:
  5. Thank you, abba12! Yes, I do agree with at least 95% of what you wrote here. I believe someone can be totally unable to do "good works" and still be saved by faith, as the thief on the cross was. Thank you for your added clarifications. I had initially written, "Faith without works is dead and is not true faith at all," and I think I will go back and edit my post for clarity.
  6. LOL, yes. And you know I'm curious about your one exception. Could you let me know either here or via PM? So good to see you here on the chat board! :) Happy New Year!
  7. Based on my understanding of Scripture, I have rejected the idea that a one-time recitation of a "Sinner's Prayer" or a mere intellectual assent to the truths of Scripture is sufficient for salvation. Instead, I believe: Salvation is only through Christ: Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.†John 14:6 Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12 Salvation comes through faith in Christ and His sacrifice: But now the righteousness of God apart from the law is revealed, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets, even the righteousness of God, through faith in Jesus Christ, to all and on all who believe. For there is no difference; for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God set forth as a propitiation by His blood, through faith... Romans 3:21-25A Repentance and new birth are necessary: And Jesus answered and said to them, “Do you suppose that these Galileans were worse sinners than all other Galileans, because they suffered such things? I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish. Or those eighteen on whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them, do you think that they were worse sinners than all other men who dwelt in Jerusalem? I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish.†Luke 13:2-5 Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.†John 3:3 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. 2 Corinthians 5:17 Faith without works is dead and shows itself to be false: You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe—and tremble! But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead? James 2:19-20 Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments. He who says, “I know Him,†and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.†1 John 2:3-4 Only those who persevere in faith will be saved: For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and fiery indignation which will devour the adversaries. Anyone who has rejected Moses’ law dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, will he be thought worthy who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, counted the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified a common thing, and insulted the Spirit of grace? For we know Him who said, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,†says the Lord. And again, “The Lord will judge His people.†It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.†Hebrews 10:26-30 For if, after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome, the latter end is worse for them than the beginning. For it would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered to them. 2 Peter 2:20-21 There is hope for people like me, who struggled with my faith and with sin: Jesus said to him, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.†Immediately the father of the child cried out and said with tears, “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!†Mark 9:23-24 ...If we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:7-9 All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will by no means cast out. John 6:37
  8. For happi's sister, for Carl, for onelittlemonkey's cousin, family friend, and furry sibling, for BsldMama's nephews and cousin, for spouses and parents lost, for whitestavern's FIL, for Pinky's dad, for TechWife's parents... I am raising my glass.
  9. I am so sorry. :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:
  10. I'd be happy with any kind of roller skating rink, but yes, a wood floor would be fun! I can't ice skate but I love to roller skate. :)
  11. I have that one, too, and I absolutely love it. My favorite vacuum ever. (Pawz4me and I always recommend this vacuum on these threads! Panasonic should be paying us for the advertising. )
  12. I totally understand! If you can just manage to cut out dyes / colorings, that would be a good start. (Look for them in things like toothpaste, too.) I agree with others that she may have SPD. :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:
  13. As long as he knows they're moving, I wouldn't restrict him from seeing her or discourage the friendship. I'd have the family over, too, if that's something you would ordinarily do. If it's meant to be, there are plenty of ways for them to stay in touch. :)
  14. A change in diet dramatically helped my child. No dyes or food coloring, no artificial flavors, no unidentified, so-called "natural flavors," no preservatives. We basically do something similar to the Feingold Diet, except we don't avoid salicylates. The difference was night and day. We also disciplined for tantrums. It's okay to feel angry/sad/disappointed/upset. It's not okay to scream, complain, throw yourself on the floor, hit people, throw things, or break things. You need to find a consequence she does care about and be consistent in using it. Good luck!
  15. I'm happy for you, Lanny! :thumbup1: My personal wish for my area would be an old-school roller skating rink, with at least one 80's night a week. :coolgleamA:
  16. Thanks for the update! So glad Baby Girl is doing well. :)
  17. Thanks for the cups, Mr. Hulseman. :cheers2:

I told you to tell your friend not to worry about it too much. But if it bothers you, I hope it resolves. :)
