  1. I just saw that January 5 is also the last day of Winter. I wonder if it is a coincidence or not!
  2. I did not! They are both going on my calendar! πŸ₯❀️ Thanks, Terabith!
  3. I told DH this story indignantly yesterday. So glad it's resolved. Hope you feel better soon, Laura.
  4. I "especially" "like" the quotes. πŸ™‚ Good job surviving, saraha! Safe travels.
  5. George C. Scott's Christmas Carol, Elf, A Christmas Story
  6. Plush Toad and Frog for the dash? https://www.amazon.com/YOTTOY-Frog-Toad-Plush-Friends/dp/B07GRKD6VS?th=1 Zipper pouch? Notebook? Insulated bottle? All of the above are from the "Toad and Frog" books by Lobel. There is a Mr. Toad in Wind in the Willows, but I don't think there was a frog. Mr. Toad statue Another statue Felt ornament for rearview mirror
  7. Bring something for them to do. Say you saw it online and thought it would be fun. πŸ˜‰
  8. Can you set up several small tables with place cards? Give the younger generation a break? I'd serve wine with a low-ish alcohol content and no hard liquor.
  9. Oh, heck yes. Card games (even just Uno), Scrabble, Christmas songs pictionary with a white board, Christmas Bingo with little prizes. An easy Christmas craft to work on. A Christmas movie on the tv. You have options.
  10. I think it's this little guy. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Holiday-Time-22-Inch-Light-Up-Fluffy-Panda-Red-Scarf-with-20-Lights/388963565
  11. A snowman? A panda? Casper? Please don't leave us hanging!
  12. @klmama and @sassenach, thank you again for recommending Ms. Rachel! Peep literally sang for two hours straight, the whole time her program was playing. He only stopped when I went in the room and one another time. I have a story about that! Peep had been singing steadily for about an hour when he suddenly stopped. I was curious, so I started listening. Ms. Rachel said something like, "Oh...oh....uh-oh! I fell down!" I peeked in the room. Peep was standing up VERY tall, looking at the screen. I heard Ms. Rachel say, "That's ok! I'll get back up again!" and after a minute Peep gave a questioning little chirp and then started to sing again. He's a very empathetic bird, LOL. I'm glad he likes to watch the video as well as listen to the audio.
  13. Most birds! Not canaries. That's one of the reasons we went with a canary instead of, say, a finch, who absolutely would love being in a flock. Even male and female canaries may fight and injure or kill each other if it's not breeding season. And males hate the sight of another bird. Our last canary, Sunny, had previously been caged with her sister, but she bullied the poor thing and kept her from their food. By the time we adopted her they had already been separated for a while. Canaries can be kept together in large (really large!) aviaries though. Parakeets are awesome!! I hope you will be able to have your own birds someday. πŸ™‚
  14. Oh my goodness. I may have to be a little jealous, because I'm playing Ms. Rachel right now and Peep ADORES her. Like maybe more than me. πŸ˜‰ Literally within 30 seconds of starting the video, he was puffing his feathers, doing little wing flaps, and waggling his tongue (all signs of pleasure). He then started flying back and forth across his cage. I left the room and he is currently chatting away and singing loudly. Thank you! Looking forward to trying your other suggestions, too!
  15. DH often takes lanterns to white elephant exchanges. He buys the kind with a strobe option so it can also function as a hazard light. They are always very popular.
  16. It reminds me a lot of my great aunt's tree in the 70's. Very nicely done, IMO.
  17. You are all so helpful! Thank you from me and from Peep! 🐀
  18. My canary Peep is incredibly social. He loves to have conversations with people. Now that DD is in public school, he doesn't have company as often. I do try to visit him throughout the day and I even carry on conversations with him across the house, but I can't be with him all the time. He loves, loves, loves pop music and will happily sing with it for at least 30 minutes at a time. He doesn't enjoy bird song or bird videos (or really any videos) like my female canary did. I think he sees them as threatening. I think he would enjoy some audio books. πŸ™‚ He doesn't like angry or scared voices or yelling. He prefers female voices. He likes variety in tone. I'm trying to think of audio books that are longer than picture books but without sadness and violence. I'm drawing a blank! Any ideas? They would need to be books I could borrow from the library.
  19. I've sung the praises of Thred Up in the past, but the last order I received from them was AWFUL. It's like no one actually checked the condition of the items, at all. I bought two sweaters, both black, both listed as "Excellent" condition. Thred Up defines Excellent in this way: "This item is practically new! It shows no obvious signs of being worn or washed." Both sweaters were pilly, one extensively so. One was faded and had paint (!) or something on the front. And one of them was dark green, not black. Blech. They will give me back my money, but honestly I'm done messing with them. Another order had multiple items that had been measured incorrectly (or not measured at all). I have a lot of favorite pieces from them, but it's no longer worth the trouble. I'll stick with Mercari, eBay, or local thrift shops. Just FYI.
  20. We had mostly the cheap hollow plastic food but if money were no object I'd go with the Learning Resources sets. We had their Jumbo Animal Sets and the quality was fantastic. Right now their Deluxe Market Set is 51% off! $26.99 instead of $54.99.
  21. My DD always much preferred the plastic food. It's lighter. It's easier to store (all tossed in one bin!). It fits more easily in play cookware and dishes. There is more variety. It looks more realistic. You can buy many more kinds of foods and have them cost about the same as one or two wooden sets. I think as parents we like the beauty and quality of cloth and wood, but kids often prefer realism. I found the same was true with dolls at our house. The cloth ones didn't get much attention compared to the Dollar General vinyl baby with open and shut eyes. πŸ™‚
  22. A baby doll and baby doll feeding kit and/or diaper kit. The same brand (Melissa and Doug, Mine to Love line) also offers a portable bassinet, a baby carrier, a bathtime set, a stroller, and mix and match outfits. So fun and infinite play value. πŸ™‚ My DD also played a lot with Learning Resources Jumbo Animals at that age. Play food and dishes tend to be a hit, too.
  23. We received this foraging puzzle for free and our dog enjoys it: It's not super challenging for her but gives her something to do while I'm working in the kitchen. πŸ™‚ Do you have any favorite activity type toys for dogs? I was looking at snuffle mats but I think our dog (and most dogs) would make very quick work of finding the food in those. Christmas is coming! πŸ™‚ Thanks.
