  1. A friend of mine spends $20,000/year on private middle school. My dtr starts middle school next year and I've already spent more than normal for curriculum and a couple of online classes. If we can pay cash for it and it will enhance her education, it's approved.
  2. We have a membership to edHelper.com which has lots of short readings on the goverment. Another resources we used was How the Goverment Works by Syl Sobel.
  3. practice than Fred provides. My dd and I both love the way it is set up and I love that it uses word problems to make sure that the concepts are understood, but my dd needed to do extra rote practice on the side. For that extra practice we use free online math worksheet generators. If I had to do it all over again, I would have used LoF as a review/cement after having taught the basic fraction concepts.
  4. Make sure you check to see if your state has United Streaming for free. In the recent past Georgia homeschoolers didn't have to pay for it.
  5. Same here (but trade the beer for a Coca Cola). I only volunteer information if it is a large purchase or if it is coming out of the household/bill money.
  6. We upgraded and have been pleased with it. The only difference is the change in scenery- which is enough to keep the game "fresh."
  7. I picked the chocolate lava cake, but please do not put the raspberry stuff on it. Fruit messes up good chocolate. :D
  8. IMO, it's way too early to start school, however, since the local schools started last week we decided to do the same. That way in the spring we won't be still doing school while the others are on summer vacation.
  9. Mine arrived today. I love it. FYI: If you do a Google search, you'll come across some coupon codes for 20% off your total purchase.
  10. Hmmm, I already have a label maker, but I hadn't thought about a spice cabinet..... Thanks for all of the responses. Our school year is off to a great start!
  11. This is my 4th year homeschooling my 8 year old daughter. Although I always had the intention of doing a fantastic unit study-based education for her, I found that I kept gravitating toward a more classical approach. At this year's Homeschool Expo I had the chance to hear Susan speak and immediately knew that it was time to overhaul my plans. My daughter and I both think in a linear fashion. We need repetition and order. So I bought and devoured the WTM book and here we are. I've been lurking on this board since last Friday and see that it is a potentially dangerous place to be. I've already ordered a Circa notebook (it arrives today).:hurray: I look forward to the wealth of information and ideas that everyone has to share.
