  1. OK, so if you are planning to do 180 days of school, then your MTWR subjects would have 180 x .8 = 144 lessons. Friday subjects would have 180 x .2 = 36, since there would be 36 weeks.
  2. :iagree: I always encourage families to choose a facility that is convenient for them to go to, because every facility has bad apples.
  3. ETA: When I needed to purchase a vehicle in my own name, I was advised that I needed to NOT use marital funds to do so. Therefore cash savings wasn't helpful. It was either credit or a rich uncle. So glad I have the credit, since I don't have a rich uncle. When you unexpectedly find yourself having to provide for your family, having good credit is like a bonus. With no recent work history, a new hire letter, and no rental history (dh's name was on the lease, but not mine because we were in different states trying to move), and two past mortgages, I didn't look very good on paper. But my credit rating is very high. I've always held a credit card in my own name. I've always had bank accounts in my own name (part of what I was told I needed to be a prepared, responsible adult) even if they weren't used very much. I was approved for a a new lease for a place to live right away. I was also approved right away for a new vehicle, when mine was taken out from under me. I don't have control over the world. I was able to control that I had access to bank accounts and established credit when I needed it in an emergency. My husband and I also had POA for eachother established, in case of an emergency. That was handy when we were moving between states, and again when he was in the hospital. ETA: When I had to get myself a vehicle in my own name, I was not allowed to use marital funds, or it could be considered marital property. I needed credit or a rich uncle. Thank goodness for good credit, as I don't have a rich uncle!
  4. Yes, I doublechecked - no friends in common. He's new to FB. Not same locations at all. I'm thinking maybe email... Thanks all!!!
  5. Nope.. no friends in common... and yes, we have emailed... so that might be it!
  6. Anyone know how friend suggestions work? I'm not searchable by anyone who doesn't already know a "friend." However someone new to FB popped up today, whom I am an acquaintance of. But I don't think we have any common friends. If he searched for me, would he potentially come up as a friend recommendation?
  7. Thanks for the hints! I hadn't thought of putting an area rug on top... will have to see what I can find... The idea of linoleum or something isn't as appealing cosmetic wise, as I'd be worried about edges curling. I certainly don't need a fall hazard.
  8. I've never had carpet in the dining room. I've been very thankful for hardwood in each of the three we have had, as it is so easy to clean up any mess that happens. HOWEVER, we are moving again, and this time we have carpet in the dining room. No option to change that, as it's an apartment. I have a carpet cleaner. Shall I just plan to use it weekly? It's not that the kids are messy eaters, but accidents happen...
  9. Well, I wouldn't either, but I need to decide what I am keeping and what I am leaving for my husband. Just went through the crawl space in one hour, and have LARGE pile of donate, small pile of trash, and small bit to keep. Didn't have time (or mental energy) for holiday decorations. I think I need a a friend for that, and she's due at 6:30pm! Now for some school, then off to work some more, and a bit of playtime. :)
  10. I worked all day yesterday, but I did make sure everything that had already been sorted through went out the door. Today the weather is a little cooler this morning, so I will work on the third floor, and box up books and and sort through holiday decorations.
  11. I checked mine this morning, so I was glad I forgot to go to Staples on Monday.
  12. I am decluttering in preparation for packing. Today I did: -majority of craft supplies (just fabric left) -one bathroom -kitchen: 7/18 cabinets, 5/7 drawers -condensed from two gift wrap boxes to one (used to have a separate Christmas box) -cleaned off the top of one section of kitchen cabinets -eliminated two more pieces of furniture Twas a good day!!!
  13. I just did this today. I had all separate containers for things, with one "odds & ends" box. However I am downsizing. So I condensed. One shoe-size box has pipe cleaners, glue gun, fun scissors, and feathers. Another box has buttons, pony beads, googly eyes, and sticky gems. I have one box of stickers, and one box of foam shapes. Hmm... but now I'm wondering what happened to the craft sticks... the kids must have used them all. As long as I know what is in the box (labeled), and they are separated, I'm OK.
  14. Craft supplies almost done. I have one more box to haul down from upstairs, and then just to put my keepers away. (That was really so much easier than I thought it would be!) Had to speak to my mom on the phone privately, so I took that opportunity in my room to combine the best of two boxes of wrapping paper/gift bag supplies into the one box that fits under my bed.
  15. I love love love Writing Tales. I do use a separate grammar, and allow the grammar in WT to be review. I don't think you need to, but that's what we do. I have only used WT2. I am very visual, and so I created a visual weekly plan, as written in WT2. I ran it past the author before I made it available on Lulu.com. I then edited it, and created a 4xweek plan, which I would be happy to email to anyone who is interested.
  16. I have just signed a lease on a new place, and I don't share that information, as it is not pertanent information. Now, when we moved in to this house, the management company learned that we homeschool, and she shared it with the home owners. The wife was SO excited, because she was glad to know we were a Christian family. (We are Christian, but I was careful not to share that not all homeschoolers are Christians.)
  17. Starting tomorrow??? I'm ahead of you, but I'll join you. :001_smile: Today I am having Craft Closet Clean-out Day. I've carried ALL the boxes and bags of stuff to one room, covered a table, and have started sorting through. I am keeping one large box (my crafts), and a couple small shoe-box sized boxes (kid craft suppplies) ONLY. I've invited friends to come and take whatever they would like, and the rest will be dropped off at my church for the preschool and kids programs. (I'm moving and significantly downsizing, so I'm on a deadline.)
  18. I never went to camp. I'm a bit clueless here, and need the wisdom of those who have BTDT. "Label your child's belongings." So... how do you interpret this? Do I need her name on her toothbrush or just the toothbrush case? The toothpaste? Socks? Underwear? Shoes? Towels? (How?) :bigear:
  19. I've not had luck with rain checks... That's why I like getting the ad in my email, as I can plan to get there Sunday or Monday.
  20. Just got an email from Staples, with the penny, quarter, and dollar deals to run 7/10-7/16!!! Multipurpose printer paper for a quarter!!!:auto:
  21. My best friend is a closing agent for a title company- and your case doesn't sound all that different from the many headaches she deals with from lenders/underwriters. I can't offer any advise, and she's already in bed for the night. :grouphug:
  22. :iagree:"Normal" fasting is between 70-99. A FBS in the mid-90s can be an indicator of a future diagnosis of diabetes. Brand name strips often run about $65/box of $50. Years ago I used to recommend the Walmart brand glucometer and strips for those who didn't have insurance. ReliOn was the brand, I believe. Reliability wasn't perfect, but was good enough to determine problems in trends. I don't know if they are still available. So I don't know how helpful this is. Honestly, I wouldn't press with an HbA1C, as although it can give a great picture of long-range elevation of glucose, it is honestly most effective at identifying heart-related issues related to diabetes, and doesn't determine WHEN the blood sugar is elevated.
  23. My metal chicken is only 2 ft tall. Dh just rolled his eyes when I brought him home. I have seen really big ones at certain antique shops - you know, down in the basement next to the suits of armour and the wagon wheels. No one would ever let me bring one home, though.
