  1. I haven't been around in quite some time but glad to be back to read this thread! CONGRATS 8Fillstheheart! This looks awesome and I can't wait to buy it! CaptUhura
  2. I too hope to get some after schooling done with a 9th grader. I hope to after school Latin and supplement history he is learning at school more deeply at home with history texts and literature books from WTM.
  3. I too have Sjogren's. I used to chew Biotene gum. It got to the point i was chewing it all the time. Then the company was sold and all the stores stopped carrying it. I then read that it actually makes your mouth more dry but honestly, I can't remember the explanation given by the person's dentist. At any rate, once I got over wanting to chew something, my mouth was no longer dry. I don't know if there is a connection or not. If you're having cavity issues from dry mouth, I probably wouldn't chew gum with sugar in it as it might increase likelyhood of cavities. Sybil
  4. This breaks my heart. My thoughts goes out to his family.
  5. Sounds good to me!!! I also agree w/ a Donation Jar!!! Wonderful idea! Sybil
  6. Timely topic as I'm considering holding my son back a year. He has been ill for 2yrs and I'm not sure he's ready for public school high school. Friends tell me he's ready for PS high school but he is not where I want him to be wrt a more classical education. We essentially lost two years of HSing. He was advanced so he isn't behind his same age peers I don't think. I don't know what the right decision is. Sybil
  7. I hope you get some answers soon. My 13yr old son is limping. His IgA just came back at 37. The range on the report is 70-432. He has been treated for Lyme disease for 1.5yrs. I am not sure if he has Lyme-induced arthritis at this point or if he's still infected w/ the bacteria. We just have no idea.
  8. Yes, I have SJogren's and by the end of the day, my voice is just done. And then my 7yr old begs for me to read aloud to her. Some nights I just can't do it and she reads to me or she asks her dad. 8-( I chew Biotene gum and that helps and if I remember, I take a Salagen tablet about an hour before her bed time.
  9. I have Sjogren's and have intermittent knee problems as well, usually on my left knee. I found that shoes are critical. I've been doing Beachbody's newest program, Focus T25. It's just 25min/day and there is a modifier which makes it no impact. Disclaimer - I am a Beachbody Coach (gotta pay for all the Homeschool curricula I buy, ha ha ha). Everything else I love is very high impact. I'm having to adjust my mindset as my SJogren's gets worse however but that's a battle for the mind. 8-( Sybil
  10. I have Sjogren's. I have been negative for SSa/b but my rheumy says if it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck, it's a duck. I have not had the biopsy. I already have a numb lip and I don't want to risk any more damage to my lips. My eye doctor is the one that told me I had Sjogren's and sent me back to the rheumy. I have a TON of digestive problems. NUTRITION is KEY when dealing w/ any autoimmune disease. I've had to modify my diet greatly to manage this disease (extreme muscle weakness) with nutrition and no medication. Anyone feel free to PM me. Going off gluten was key for aches and pains and GI issues. Food sensitivities are very common in autoimmune disease and some doctors feel the autoimmune disease is the result of a leaky gut.
  11. Late to the party but wanted to send hugs from a fellow Sjogie (and possibly Lupus/RA).
  12. Just a quick post but I homeschool my two boys (8th and 5th) and my daughter goes to 1st grade in Public school. She went to kindy and had an awesome year. She had the best teacher ever in the whole world and I don't say that jokingly. My 8th grader has a chronic illness, I am dealing w/ autoimmune diagnosis and with all of our doctor's appointments etc it was easier to have her at public school. IF she ever became unhappy or felt like she wasn't learning anything, she'd be home but she's happy and we're able to afterschool history which she loves. I don't do much with the school but attend conferences etc. Last year I was class mom but that didn't require a lot and the school is just 1mile from my house so it was easy to leave my boys for an hour to volunteer. 13. If you can, do not miss a Big Dog dig!!! We did it twice a year for several years and my kids learned so much. Thismyear it was too far to drive and I have a chronically ill son now. We were very sad to miss it.
  14. I am in the same boat. My son, 13yrs old, has been dealing with Lyme disease for 2yrs. The fatigue is horrible. We now think he is clear of the Lyme bacteria but is left w/ awful nausea and stomach pain. he is on omeprazol and that seems to be helping so maybe he has just been left with GERD. I try to do as much as I can orally. He's better in the evenings so we've been up as late as 11:30pm doing algebra. We have lost about 1.5yrs of his education but I think he's still on par w/ the local schools for 9th grade last year. It is really hard. I will read the rest of this thread. Big hugs, Sybil
  15. This is my first year with a First LEGO League team. If your child is on a team, do you use the topic as your science? This year's theme is Nature's Fury and I'm thinking of just having this as the science for the first quarter. Capt Uhura
  16. Hi Darcy! I remember your name! My oldest is entering 8th grade. My middle is entering 5th grade. My youngest is entering 1st grade. I've been away from the forums about a 1-2yrs dealing with my oldest and a chronic illness (Lyme Disease) and now dealing w/ my own autoimmune issues, trying to run a home business, and homeschool! welcome back! Sybil
  17. My library has a limit of 50 books per card. It used to be 100 books.
  18. Big hugs. I too am dealing w/ a chronic illness (Sjogren's Syndrome) diagnosis w/ extreme fatigue etc. There is a Homeschooling with Chronic Illness Facebook group if you're interested.
  19. It's a great idea for you then Madteaparty! it's great to actually sit down and chat w/ other WTMers as well as the speakers! Can't wait to see you again LuckyMama!!!
  20. Hi All!!! I'm wondering who will be attending the Royal Fireworks press conference June 27-29? I had such a great time meeting so many WTMers last year. I hope some of you will be returning!!! http://www.rfwp.com/pages/royal-fireworks-press-2nd-homeschool-curriculum-conference/ Sybil
  21. You can definitely do it. At 45yrs old, I'm in the best shape of my life and I started at 43. I was fit in my late 20s, early 30s but my level of performance and endurance was not at the level it is now.
