  1. My local yarn shop....Yarn makes me calm...I'd prefer to send the kid away though. I'd rather be home alone than out somewhere alone.
  2. ~ I'm planning 12wks at a time (a whole trimester), instead of 6. Six weeks goes by FAST! ~I'm selling/donating or otherwise getting rid of any leftover notebooks, projects or curriculum so it's not laying around taking up the space I need. This includes coloring books. Why do we have an ENTIRE shelf of coloring books? They don't even get used! ~Clearing out DS's bookshelf. He doesn't read his picture books and early readers much anymore. It's time to keep the old favorites and pass on the rest. ~I'm already letting everyone know not to call me before 1pm. Why does everyone think that just because I'm home, it must mean I'm not doing anything? No phone calls before lunch this year. ~I started a spreadsheet to keep my favorite links, logins, and passwords. This was a huge issue last year.
  3. We just ditched our land line. In our case, though, the house is a black hole as far as cell service goes. So we use Magic Jack, which is hooked up to the internet.

  5. I agree...the grass isn't greener. My house was clean, the laundry was done, and we had "gourmet -style" dinners every night...but once I picked the kids up from school, we all had attitude problems, we fought about homework, which took hours to complete, we never had fun time for the family and "studying" took all night so no one could do extracurriculars. :grouphug: ETA: A mom in our homeschool group has a 2yo, twin 6yos, and a 9yo. Once a week a homeschooled teen stays with her older kids while she takes the toddler alone for two hours. I thought that was a pretty cool arrangement.
  6. I don't soak it, we like it mixed with scrambled eggs and veggies, like fried rice.
  7. We are asked for a "seal" when applying for DS's work permit...I had a stamp made at Staples. I would call, they may accept it without it if your paperwork shows you're homeschooling.
  8. Yes and no.... My family is not AT ALL religious....but when they come over, we still pray over dinner. DS's friends are not allowed to say "Oh my God" in the house. My teenagers friends are only allowed to play the "clean" versions of their music in our home. But we don't go forcing beliefs at people or yelling at them. There's a way to say everything respectfully...
  9. I grew up around a FABULOUS public transportation system. I felt no desire to learn to drive until I moved to a city with a really crappy one...I was 21.
  10. I crochet and dye yarn :D I think my book collection is the only thing around here that rivals my yarn stash! "Youth Academy for Resident Negroes" Needless to say, we use YARNacademy for professionalism (we have to have a name here) :)
  11. LOL, my son works in entertainment and its just easier for him to have state issued ID. He stood on a chair at his appt :)
  12. ::nods to screen name:: DH named it to pay tribute to my obsession, then gave it a hilarious acronym that kinda grew on me.
  13. We are 2wks away from giving back our cable boxes and buying 2 Rokus and a digital antenna. We have Netflix, HuluPlus, and Amazon Prime...we NEVER watch the $180 worth of cable we're paying for. I'll be glad to stop making that useless payment.
  14. Broiled lemon shrimp, spinach, and GF sour cream biscuits.
