  1. Does he know she thinks she might be pregnant? If she isn't pregnant, just the fact that there was a scare might be a deterrent for him in the future. Especially if, as you said, she might have actually wanted this. I'm praying for you. I have two dds and I feel heartsick for you. :grouphug: Mary
  2. This would be the kind of job my 18 yo dd college freshman would love. She is an education major and loves working with young kids. (I find it ironic my homeschooled daughter is an education major :001_smile:) Are there any colleges near you. The only problem would be scheduling the time between their classes. Mary
  3. THere are porn photos is the post by UnesWheex! I assume since it is a holiday it would be hard to get in contact with someone to remove it. How do you do that anyway? Mary in VA
  4. I think I may understand what you are describing. Did you do the yarn overs in the knit row and then are purling them on the next row? If so, then you should treat the yarn overs like a regular stitch and purl them, even though they are at an angle on the needle. What does the pattern say regarding the yarn overs? Mary
  5. I knit and would like to help, but I don't know what you mean by a "knit yarn over." Could you clarify? What are you making? Mary
  6. In a previous thread a poster from Illinois talked about legislation Obama supported which would make homeschooling more difficult in Illinois. It was supported by the NEA. It is the 5th post down here http://www.welltrainedmind.com/forums/showthread.php?t=50492&highlight=obama+illinois Mary
  7. We elect representatives who govern for us. I believe in direct democracies all the people vote for everything. We don't even vote directly for our president, we vote for electors who vote for our president. Direct democracy doesn't work well on a large scale. Also doesn't work well if you are in the minority on some issue. We would never have homeschooling for instance. I think the last direct democracy was ancient Greece. The United States is a democratic republic. I am sure if I got any of this wrong (which is very possible:001_smile: ) someone will correct me. Mary
  8. It did the same thing for me, but not just the story you mentioned. Several did that. So I came here to see if it was Fox or my computer. I guess it's Fox. :001_smile:
  9. Contributions for Social Security are taken out of the first $102,000 of income. That is the amount for 2008, don't know what it is for 2009. After $102,000 is earned, nothing more is taken out. Mary
  10. Here is the NEA's position on homeschooling. It is in the resolutions passed at their convention this year. It sounds pretty much the same every year. You can find it be going to http://www.nea.org/annualmeeting/raaction/080706resolutions.html and clicking on the NEA Resolutions 2008-2009. So while they don't want to abolish homeschooling, they do want to make it so difficult that the average parent can't do it. B-80. Home Schooling The National Education Association believes that home schooling programs based on parental choice cannot provide the student with a comprehensive education experience. When home schooling occurs, students enrolled must meet all state curricular requirements, including the taking and passing of assessments to ensure adequate academic progress. Home schooling should be limited to the children of the immediate family, with all expenses being borne by the parents/guardians. Instruction should be by persons who are licensed by the appropriate state education licensure agency, and a curriculum approved by the state department of education should be used. The Association also believes that home-schooled students should not participate in any extracurricular activities in the public schools. The Association further believes that local public school systems should have the authority to determine grade placement and/or credits earned toward graduation for students entering or re-entering the public school setting from a home school setting. 11. I have been lurking here since the board changed. I would occasionally post on the old board, but haven't registered here until today. I haven't figured out how this whole thing works, don't have an avatar, don't know about the emoticons, etc, but just felt I have to reply quickly to what I feel is a mischaracterization of BSF that disturbs me very much. First, I TOTALLY understand the OP's position and can understand why she is upset. But the overall characterization of BSF based on an article found on the internet is the total opposite of what I have seen in 11 years in BSF. I believe Rhonda in TX would agree with me. My husband and I have each attended BSF for 11 years, each of us in two different classes. He has also attended classes in other cities when he travelled for work. We have also both been Discussion Leaders at different times. Our two daughters have also attended the Children's Program, our oldest just completed her ninth year and graduated this year. My husband and I both believe the Lord has used this Bible study to grow our entire family spiritually in a wonderful way. I could go on and on addressing the issues raised, but I found this article which covers everything I would want to address in the "watch.pair" article linked by Betty. http://www.jade.net.nz/blog/archive/2005_04_01_archive.html#111418717029288055 Rhonda, I hope you receive an answer that helps you from BSF Headquarters:grouphug: and will pray this for you. I am just concerned that BSF has been portrayed as a rigid, rule driven, cold, and secretive organization. It is the total opposite. Their goal it to teach people all over the world to study God's Word for themselves. I would be willing to bet the epi-pen rule was put into place because of something that happened in one of the almost 1,000 classes world-wide. I just don't want any one who is looking for a Bible study to not check BSF out for themselves because of something they read here. Mary in VA
