  1. I think it mostly has to do with the location and the age of their equipment. I have used 2 different Walgreens and was very pleased with one and very dissappointed in the other. I've always had great luck with Walmart and have also gotten great prints from Shutterfly (if you don't mind waiting for them to be shipped). Shutterfly also sends out coupons and freebies on a pretty regular basis.

  2. I have the same concerns about the long term effects on my kids... We have much the same situation here (with DH's family). We are close to my family, and there are a few that we are close to in his family, but for the most part, I want nothing to do with my husband's family. It was not always that way, and unfortunately the kids can remember being around some of these people that we no longer associate with. We have given them the simplified version of why we no longer have a relationship with these people, but since DS and DD are still fairly young, they don't really "get it." I'm trying my best to protect my children (these are not good people) and maintain my sanity by distancing our lives from theirs, but I worry that the kids feel like I've taken something away from them. I just pray (frequently) that, when they are older, the kids will understand our motivation and see that the decisions that we made were what we felt had to be done for the good of our family.

  3. I'm sorry that you're having to go through this ... I lost my 14 year old weim last September and it was a very difficult time for me. She had been a very healthy dog up until the last couple of years, but had develped several problems during the last few months. Our vet (that I adore as do all our animals) had always told me that I would know when it was time, but he said that he always gave the following advice... Choose your dog's three favorite things, whether it's chasing a ball, playing tug-o-war, eating, or whatever and when 2 of those three things are not possible anymore, then it's time to let them go. If you can find ways to make these things possible and the quality of life is still there, then I would support treatment (if you are able to reasonably afford it). If the quality of life cannot be maintained, then I would say that's it's time to let him go. Hopefully there will be a treatment that can help him for a while longer...

  4. Those prices sound great! DD has danced (ballet, tap, and jazz) for about 4 years now. We pay around $20 - $30 for shoes (depending on which class they're for) and $9 - $12 for tights. Leos are from the studio since they have a "dress code" and they are $15 - $20 each. It just gets more expensive as they get older and more advanced... $80 - $120 for pointe shoes is not something I'm looking forward to...

  5. I worked with many bilingual children before I had my kids. Most of the families only spoke their native language at home and the kids were exposed to English at day school. They picked it up very quickly and really had no problems in understanding and transitioning between the languages. If you want to try a day program for a few hours a week to increase exposure, then do that, but I agree that it sounds like he's doing just fine considering his age.:001_smile:

  6. I am sooooooooo not creative. I made 3 people. That is the extent of my craftiness and creativity. My 5yo asked me to teach her by using crafts. I thought about selling her. I could not have possibly produced a crafty child. My older two want to produce a play. I almost had a heart attack. I know they're going to ask me to help create a set. I can't even draw stick people!

Now, I think some extras are nice. Of course my idea of "extras" is "write a paper about xxxx" or "let's watch a YouTube video/documentary about that." if my kids want to make a model of a plant cell, I give them the tools and step away. I don't do crafts.

    :iagree:

Thank God... I'm not the only one!!

  7. Both of my kids have been in CTF Tae Kwon Do for a while now. They have really enjoyed it, and I have been impressed with the fact that they are learning self defense without even realizing it. I think it has a lot to do with the studio where they take class, so visit a few and see what fits. Many studios will offer a free trial period to see if the child is interested. Good Luck!

  8. We love cruising. There are enough activities on the ship that everyone has something to do, or nothing to do if that's your preference, and dinner together is usually relaxing with no worries. You can plan your port stops to be as active or inactive as you like.

If you're going to be in the Caribbean, a fun thing to do in port instead of the big group excursions is charter a private sailboat... they take you sailing, snorkeling, and serve a light snack. We did it with a group of 6 in St. Thomas last year. It was so peaceful and yet you weren't just sitting on the beach doing nothing (not that I'm against that!) And no crowds to deal with!
