  1. He's doing wonderful. I took piano lessons for two years as a child, and after two years I probably couldn't have played this well.
  2. I am a 22yo F from FL, USA. I would like to find a pen pal who is serious about expanding their own education using a classical approach. Please respond to this thread only if you would be interested in engaging in intellectual discussions about our journeys in self-directed learning.
  3. I would embrace it. :) Let her be a creative 6 year old. Why don't you want her work to look "messy?" Probably because you want her to be successful later in life. I think when the time comes she'll quickly get the hint that she shouldn't doodle on a job application or college entrance essay.
  4. Don't do it! Do what works for you. What objective is intended by all the copywork? If he can meet the objective by doing less copywork, then you don't have to do it to the point of redundancy.
  5. Do y'all know much about the new common core state standards? How many of you are interested in following them and how many of you don't give a flip? lol. As someone training to become a teacher, I'm very interested in them!
  6. what state/county are you in? Because that matters a lot as to what the standard kindergarten curriculum is. I know here in orange county, florida, they start on letter recognition right away.
  7. I was looking for a literary reference book for highschoolers. Windows to the World is the only thing I saw that came close. I'm not interested in a lot of comprehension questions or even necessarily prescribed texts to read. I'm more interested in something that will give a highschooler the tools they need to read, analyze, and write about literature. Is Windows to the World what I'm looking for or do you recommend something else?
  8. Also, I purchased Story of the World on my kindle. :P I know its super simplified, but I feel like it will be a good start for refreshing my history knowledge!
  9. Wow! Thanks allearia for the detailed response. Great suggestions. I am currently in college for elementary ed so I will become a classroom teacher, hopefully, next year! I really should get a crock pot and start learning some recipes. That's something I've thought about doing for a while!
  10. Thanks for the replies! I hope to learn a lot here on the forum.
  11. I'm 21 years old and don't have kids yet, but I can't wait to be a mommy. I'm enthralled with the idea of homeschooling. I'm also a little concerned about how I will manage multiple children and give them the education they deserve. I know I'm really young, but I like to think of the future. lol. Anyone want to share stories about raising and homeschooling multiple children? How do you do it?
