  1. Our pack requires the kids to sell $270 worth of popcorn each year. We have NEVER been able to sell anywhere near their goal. We home school, my hubby is self employed, we do not live in a neighborhood and all our family has large families with kids fundraising so we really do not have many people to sell to. They set huge goals and it feels like during the fall all they talk about is popcorn. After a few years it is getting old and I didn't put my younger boys in cub scouts because of this. I was thinking about switching packs, but if all of them are like this then forget it. I actually am not fond of cub scouts anyway- it's a lot of work on the parents part, but my younger boys really want to join
  2. My husband was not allowed in his parents bed or bedroom at all growing up. I was only allowed in my parents bed when my dad was away on business. I was welcome in their room, but had to knock first. My kids come in our room and on our bed at any time. The only time they knock is when the door is locked. In some ways I like having them in our room. But, in some ways I think we may need some space and respect for the master bedroom! I like snuggling with my kids in the morning, but I find them on my bed during the day and every once in a while I find the little ones doing dives on to it and wrestling with the covers. Maybe a new rule that once mommy and daddy are out of bed it's not to be touched?
  3. no, and she would not have the cough now if she just got the shot last week. it takes a couple weeks (i think, can't remember now) before you show symptoms and the it begins as a mild cold. after a few days the cough starts.
  4. definitely freeze gallon bottles (apple juice or water bottles)... after 2 days it's not even half melted. It comes in handy to have ice cold water at the end of a camping trip! trailburgers are always easy. freeze the meat and onions in the foil packets and then add chopped up potatoes, carrots, etc when ready to cook.
  5. you could most definitely zip 2 sleeping bags together if they are the same. we tried doing it with 2 old ones once and the zippers were different so it did not work. we love our adam and eve bag!
  6. adam and eve sleepng bags are usually the size of 2 sleeping bags, so depending on how big you, dh and dd are, she could fit !
  7. oh, and the foam mats do make a huge difference. the ones we bought we so thin, I didnt think it would make any difference, but it really did.
  8. no suggestions for campgrounds, but if you like being cozy with your hubby definitely get an "adam and eve" sleeping bag. dont know what brand ours is. go to a sports store and try them out. your dd most definitely can use her cheapo sleeping bag, but if it's cold I would bring extra blankets or a warmer sleeping bag for her.
  9. check out Abeka's website to see if they are having any curriculum fairs in your area. you may already know about this, but if not- they bring all of their books to different venues (usually hotels) and you can browse throught all the books and ask questions. BJU also does this and they are both free. The year I did it they each were at 3 different places within half an hour from my home. It was so helpful to hold the books in my hand and go through them HTH
  10. to run down to the mailbox to get the mail, yes. Any other time, no
  11. re: hair cut/color, clothing. I should not have mentioned this because I do know that people can find those clothes in thrift stores and have friends who do cuts/coloring/styling. My apologies.
  12. I figured I might, but I tried to make it clear that I believe in helping out those in need, just not those who are not really in need... And I try not to be judgemental, but how can I not notice these things
  13. My husband works his butt off for our family of 10, but we keep to a tight budget and do not have things like cable or satellite tv, smart phones, nice clothes or shoes, or even get our hair cut at a salon, etc. I do believe in helping out others who need assistance. I know the world is tough and some times you need a little help. But what I can not stand is when I am behind someone who buys all their food with foodstamps and WIC(Women, Infant, Children food assistance program), and then with their extra money, buys a case of beer and carton of cigarettes. I've been behind people like this who are on their smart phones, wearing designer clothing, have nice hair cuts and salon-colored hair:confused: And all I can think is, "If I could get on foodstamps I could have all this stuff too".. They obviously don't need government assistance if they can have all those things. I also went to a friend's house who is on WIC and she also has satellite tv. She told me they pay $120/month for a subscription. So they can afford to spend $120/month on satellite tv but not the same on milk, cheese and bread? Where are people's priorities? It sickens me that we think like this is this country. I also have a cousin who is on WIC, yet takes a 2 week vacation to Disney every year. I'd LOVE a 2 wk vacation every year, but since we have to feed our family... I wish we could somehow just give it to the people who need the assistance, the ones who actually are living at a minimum and pinching pennies.
  14. Anyone seen these? Ours has about a 20 foot section of bins with items that are $.88. I only picked up a couple packs of mini composition books (set of 3) but it was fun to look around Blessings, Elizabeth
  15. my 6th and 8th pregnancies were tough. No twins. I was huge by 20 weeks. Just rolling over in bed was sooooo painful. Getting out of bed in the morning was a huge ordeal. Felt like the baby was going to shoot out right then and there. every time. I could barely walk in the morning. It would take 20-30 minutes to walk without excruciating pain in the morning, and the pain never subsided until after birth. My pelvis was always aching. Never found out why those pregnancies were different, but I survived and would do it again!
  16. I use them to store things on shelves. You may be able to spray paint them to a more neutral color. I use them for: Books to sell Library books Baseball gloves/balls Hats Shoes When we have a birthday coming up I use it to corral party items (paper cups, plates, cake mix, etc) When we are going camping or on a trip I use them to pack through out the week before we leave. See something we need, throw it in the crate on the counter Elizabeth
  17. Air and Space Natural History American History Walking around the mall to see all the memorials up close. I would not waste time at the zoo. It's not that great compared to other zoos. Night- Nats game (go to the ticket booth 2 hrs before the game for $5 tickets) The memorials look SO NEAT all lit up at night. Even just driving around at night to see them. All free except the nats game. Not including parking, which is a different story
