  1. My kiddo hates tomatoes. I make monkey brains (Only way 4 year old kiddo would eat sloppy joes) by browning the beef, adding some worcestershire, dry mustard, dried onion and garlic, brown sugar, and a little molasses.
  2. I use it to store ideas for recipes or crafts. Especially girl scout stuff.
  3. The offerings listed don't seem very appealing to me for $13. There is a soda machine in the candy shop near the gates that can make what feels like a 1000 varieties. I got diet grape sprite last time we were there. You know, if you like that kind of thing. As far as rides... My ten year old loves Thrilla Gorilla, Monkey Business, Scat-a-bout (Family Rides)and the Cobra roller coaster. We all enjoy looking at the animals, especially the rescue and recovery section. ETA: The water rafting one is a lot of fun but Nov will probably be too cold for that.
  4. When I go to that particular park, I pack a lunch in the cooler and leave it in the car. I didn't know they had a homeschool day. I'm off to check it out, maybe I'll see you there :)
  5. I don't have a religion or a study to back me up but I'd be willing to wager abstinence only education has a part in your statistics. Having safe sex with proper education of condom usage would greatly reduce the probability of STD/STI and pregnancy. Teaching kids about consent and personal responsibility for our completely normal feelings could reduce the possibility of rape, or at least reduce the chance they blame a gal for "asking for it"
  6. I think a lot of people have managed to give you great advice and I applaud you for being open with your children about trans people. It can be difficult for even adults to understand. While your first grader might be too young for this, tried to phrase that in a way that was completely nonjudgmental of parenting style, I don't want to assume you do anything, something that has helped me explain it to people is "It isn't about who you want to go to bed with, and all about who you want to go to bed as."
  7. That's terrifying. I'm sorry you feel that way. Thanks for helping me understand your view though.
  8. The thread is, yes. You asked me why I said my opinion was it was mommy wars fuel. That is why.
  9. Oh FFS. I was explaining why I hate mommy wars. I'm pro thoughtful parenting, I'm anti fighting. I'm anti thinking you're better because of whatever. We're all tiny little insignificant specks here for an insignificant amount of time. It's not worth creating dividing lines.
  10. I chose _____. Clearly, my choice shows greater sacrifice/wisdom/whatever for my children. I'm a better mother. Yuck. I'm not saying anyone implied it was a hill to die on. I don't use an online school. I strongly dislike forcing a division over someone who thoughtfully chose which educational path suits their children's needs by saying they're not allowed to call themselves homeschoolers or whatever they please. I'd say that I don't care what other people do with their children's education, but then I'd be advocating those that allow children to make it to 15 illiterate. I'm not in favor of that.
  11. I lucked out with FB friends, it took me till today for someone to be linking anything about it and all the things linked were against Mrs. Hall. I'm all for looking at social media with your children, but at a certain point they get to have a moderate amount of privacy, I feel what she did violated the girl's privacy. Girls aren't responsible for how boys think, if you teach your children that they are, you're wrong. I feel awful for the rising generation who have the ability to share every teen thought with the whole world. If the whole world was privy to what I was like at 17... :svengo: My heart aches for the girls she's talking about. They can't be oblivious that they're the subject. I want to hug them.
  12. Yes, it is. I hate it. Wishing I'd never okayed the move here.
  13. I sadly am not near one. I've never heard of a caramel apple bagel but I want one.
  14. It changes 50 times. Last year Coraline got turned into a Love Bug. Right this moment, she wants to be a character from a story she wrote. I'm gently trying to talk her out of it because I know she is going to get frustrated and upset when people keep asking her what she's supposed to be. I wouldn't dream of dissuading her just because I have half of her requested Rainbow Dash costume finished.
  15. It is silly how expensive it is. I'm sure she appreciates it.
  16. I wouldn't want either breath, I keep trying to imagine what that would feel like. I'm kind of disappointed though. I clicked on this thread for a chance to talk about colors and wings :P
  17. It is annoying to be lied to. I might be a judgmental crappy person, but when I give something away and someone gives me a sob story, I immediately pass them over.
