  1. How old is your DH? Moderna was my 2nd choice (after Pfizer/BioNTech) until August 2021, when I read about the 3 men in Japan who died after getting Moderna. And then I did NOT like what Moderna and the Japanese government commented about it. Cover up? DW and I had jab #1 of the AstraZeneca vaccine and we hope to get jab #2 in 2 weeks. Please be careful with your DH! Enjoy your trip!
  2. +1 This to me is the best solution. I remember DD commenting the N-95 masks are uncomfortable. Yes, the air inside the cabin of a Civil Turbojet aircraft is severely filtered. In an airport or ground transportation it isn't. I sent DD a WhatsApp message about this thread, She responded: "Yeah. I would do the same" When she returns from the EU to the USA, her longest flight, with the new routing, is scheduled at less than 10 hours, but add in time for when they are boarding the aircraft and it is longer than that. And then waiting to deplane.
  3. Where does this person get the idea that their "Natural Immunity" is 20X more than the protection they would get from being fully vaccinated? IMO that is rubbish and is an invented number with no basis in reality.
  4. Four days ago, DD received an email from Delta Airlines. They extended the duration of her flight from Munich to Atlanta by 20 minutes.. That made her very tight connection illegal. Their system moved her to a flight that would arrive in RDU about 4 or 5 hours later. At night. First thought was to change it and then second thoughts were to stay with what Delta changed it to. For various reasons, her Origin and Destination cities changed yesterday and she cancelled the original reservation and Delta will issue a Refund to her Credit Card acccount. I always begin on Google Flights. The Delta web site seems to have issues with the Chrome browser, but it works fine for me with the Firefox browser. Yesterday, DD could not see a lot of things I was able to see on the Delta Airlines web site, so I assume that she was using Chrome. Now to the money saved with the help of Google Flights yesterday. DD will originate from an airport in Germany on KLM and connect to a KLM flight in Amsterdam and then connect in Atlanta to a Delta flight to her destination in NC. The two (2) KLM flights are "Code Shares" with Delta Airlines. Google Flights showed the fare was 901 Euros if booked on Delta and 1090 Euros if booked on KLM. Google Flights showed the cost savings was $214.00 USD. DD booked on Delta... She will get the Frequent Flyer miles (approximately 4500?) in her Delta Airlines account. Thank you Google Flights!
  5. I read your post with a lot of interest. First, I have P.T.S.D. and I know how difficult it is to find someone who can actually help you. I believe the possibility of you finding another Psychiatrist who you can develop rapport with, after being a patient of this doctor for 14 years is close to zero. The issues you have are with the Prescription medicines and their changing your appointments. You should discuss that with the Psychiatrist directly and see what his response is. If his response is not helpful, then you will need to decide whether to put up with this abuse or to see other professional help. My wife has a Nephew who is almost completely blind and he is a Psychologist, and I have known him since he was 3 or 4 years old, so that was another reason I was interested in your post and the importance of him having an assistant that will not only help him but also help his patients. I wish you much good luck with your issues with this doctor because when I was trying to find a Ph.D. Psychologist with a lot of experience with patients with P.T.S.D years ago it was almost impossible and it was a fluke that I got to the doctor I ended up with and that was a blessing for me.
  6. In Cali, Colombia approximately 66% of the people have had at least one vaccination. They were hoping for 75% by the 15th but that's a holiday. Now they are hoping for 75% by the 20th. DW and I have had our first vaccinations! We received the AstraZeneca vaccine. It isn't administered in the USA but at least one of the factories is in the USA and that factory is under FDA supervision. There was a VERY LONG wait the day I got vaccinated, I think I watched 200 or 300 people get vaccinated, and I was one of the last ones that day, but other than 1 or 2 seconds when I felt the needle go in, I have had no symptoms from the AstraZeneca vaccine. God willing we can go back on the 7th of December and get the 2nd vaccination. ETA: They expect the 4th wave (Delta) to hit here in about one month

    Windows 11

OP I was curious so I Googled on the Microsoft.com website. That is called a Downgrade. I will try to Copy and Paste from the top of the SERPs page: Open Settings app on your Windows 11, go to System > Recovery. Under Recovery options, click Go back. 2. Now Go back to Windows 10 screen should appear.Sep 10, 2021 https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/downgrade-from-windows-11-to-windows-10/84a2416d-ccfb-4d87-9eee-e1056591e91f

    Windows 11

@Slache Before you do ANYTHING else with that machine try to see if there is a way that you can get Windows Update to Revert your OS to Windows 10. If so hopefully it will revert and be OK on Windows 10 again. If there's a way to do that, I don't know what it is, but hopefully you can Google on the Microsoft.com web site to see how to do that, assuming that it is possible. I am using an old Dell Latitude E6400 laptop. I think it was made in 2008 to 2010. I'm using this one because my slightly newer but much more powerful machine, a Dell Latitude E6410 would not upgrade successfully from Windows 7 to Windows 10. On this machine, when I do the Windows Update for Security issues, there is a message that "This machine doesn't currently meet the minimum system requirements to run Windows 11". That didn't surprise me. I downloaded and ran the Microsoft "PC Health Check" App and it showed the issues this machine has. After reading your OP I am hoping that Windows Update will know enough about my machine to not try to upgrade it from Windows 10 to Windows 11... I hope you can get your machine to revert to Windows 10! Good luck!
  9. @DawnMCongratulations to your family! The adoption process has begun. He's a lucky little boy. Godspeed!
  10. Amen. Thanks to the OP for starting this thread. Thanks to all who are serving or have served or have family members who are serving.
  11. There are MANY things to do during the Junior and Senior years of high school to get into a university. SAT and/or ACT exams. Letters of Recommendation. Writing Esssays. Many other things. Take it one step at a time and do not panic.
  12. If he goes to that inpatient facility, your out of pocket cost, about $4000 USD, is a lot of money, but in comparison to what the facility actually charges is probably a tiny percentage. Him not wanting to go is a big problem. When he is 18 will he move out of your house? What are his plans for the future? Does he have plans for the future? Psychiatric issues are difficult. If you do not have total confidence in the doctor who suggested the inpatient treatment, take him ASAP to a different Psychiatrist, for a 2nd opinion. There are no simple solutions to complex issues. Much good luck to him and to your family!
  13. I'm glad that she will get to be home with you for Christmas. Lufthansa is very good. The FIRST thing I look at in the Flight SERPs that the Google Flights Fare Tracker gives me for each route, is which airline(s) are involved. I have a list in my head of airlines and types of airlines I avoid if possible. Those with a horrible reputation for Customer Service, in case there is a misconnection or lost luggage or some other issue and those that are or were Charter Operators I try to avoid. And airlines from Poland and Russia. Then where they connect and how long the connections are. We try to avoid tight connections. In the case of DD going back to RDU early in January the goal is for her to get back there five (5) days before FDOC for the Spring 2022 semester. That will give her a little bit of time in case she is late getting there and also allow her to begin getting over the "Jet Lag" I'm looking primarily at Delta and KLM. KLM is in the Delta Frequent Flyer program. Lufthansa is not in that alliance. DD flew on 2 Lufthansa affiliated carriers for her 2 flights a few weeks ago. I think they have a minority interest in one of the carriers and that they own the other carrier outright. I looked at a schedule using Condor which I believe is owned by Lufthansa (Condor is a survivor of the Thomas Cook disaster a few years ago) but it was and possibly still is a Charter carrier and they have infrequent departures. Google Flights alerted me that if she went on that, one day later, she would get a very low fare, but I want her to be in hands that I trust and to go on the day and flights I believe are best for her, with the best possible Customer Service if something goes awry. You will have a great Christmas with her home for the holidays!
  14. OP have you taken your DS to a competent Opthalmologist? If you are in the USA someone who is "Board Certified". IMO that is the best place to begin looking for a solution.
  15. @Shelydon -2.0 in a simple frame you could get for $6.95 plus shipping from Zenni? That is for the Frame and includes simple lenses and a case. I have two (2) identical frames at that price point. purchased in 2018. One has sunglasses. The other pair is for using this laptop, etc. The P.D.s in them are different. because one is for close-up and the other is for distance. I have taken off and put on the pair for using my Laptop probably thousands of times during the past 3+ years. Metal frame and it is durable... As was mentioned, the P.D. is critical. Also, to have the Optical Center in the Center of the lenses. Many years ago, in Texas., I had a pair of eyeglasses made with a high prescription (Myopia). After I got them and wore them for a week or 2 I went to the office of my Opthalmologist. In a few seconds, they discovered that the Optical Centers were not in the centers of the lenses. Those eyeglasses were purchased in a chain store and they were not cheap. Note: We always pay extra for the Anti Glare on the lenses. I think that is about $4.95 for each pair. That is IMO extremely important to add.
  16. I think you are correct about that. My DD had 10 days off from her Semester Abroad program, 2 weeks ago. She went on a trip for 9 days. She ended up on 2 flights. International flights about 400 miles each within the EU. On one of the flights she paid 99 Euros. I kept monitoring it on my Google Flights Fare Trackers. I remember it went to at least 250 Euros in a few days or a week. One flight she was looking at when I checked in Google Flights was so expensive that I suggested that if she went to that place that she take a train... Note: I have the feeling from what you wrote in the above post that she will be leaving on a morning flight. Morning flights, especially the earliest ones, are the most reliable. The least reliable flights are at night. Especially late at night. If there is a problem early in the day it affects all the flights that aircraft and crew are involved with during the rest of the day. When DD went to Europe (we live in South America) in mid-August her last flight (about 400 miles) was delayed because the Flight Attendants were scheduled to arrive on another flight on another aircraft and that flight was delayed. No Flight Attendants is the same as no Pilots and results in a delayed flight. Many little things can cause a flight to be delayed or cancelled. I usually monitor on FlightAware and was surprised when I learned the reason for the flight delay was no Flight Attendants.
  17. I agree with the Orlando area. Probably much less expensive than South Florida too. Not sure about the crime but I know there is a ton of crime in South Florida. Lots of crime in the Orlando area but my guess is that is a lot less than in South Florida. Many people from Puerto Rico live there. I remember chatting with the box boy (is that the name for Males who work with the Cashier?) in the Publix supermarket near the timeshare we stayed in. He had moved from Puerto Rico to that area, near Orlando.
  18. That's an interesting point and if my memory is correct it has struck at least 3 major U.S. Flag carriers in approximately the past 90 to 120 days? First, it was SPIRIT and people love to bash them for various reasons, some of which are valid, but IMO they have a very sharp operation, based on their daily flight from CLO (Cali, Colombia) to FLL (Fort Lauderdale) and what they did for the U.S. Embassy/State Deprtment last year when Colombian airports were closed because of COVID-19, running Humanitarian flights from various cities in Colombia to Fort Lauderdale, which United had failed at and there was also an attempt for a Military flight and then an ICE flight. After that SPIRIT ran a lot of Humanitarian flights to FLL from a number of Colombian airports. And then it was Southwest, which is usually rated among the best U.S. carriers and most recently (a week or so ago?) it was American Airlines. They say those things are caused by a combination of weather and pilot shortages. The airlines are trying to hire and train huge numbers of employees. I doubt that it will affect my DD going from the EU to the USA, but yes, something like that can always screw up a trip. And dozens of other things. I have hopes that everything will go perfectly for DD but if not she knows to ask the airline to help her with a nearby hotel if she needs to stay overnight for the short domestic flight into RDU. Hopefully at the expense of the airline if she misconnects... Below is Copied and Pasted from my Google Flights Fare Tracker. That is Peak season (first week or January 2022) and usually it says the Fares are "Typical" or "High". To see one that they show is "Low" in a Peak season is very unusual... "$890 is low for Economy Prices are $1,405 cheaper than usual. The least expensive flights for similar trips to Raleigh usually cost between $2,250–2,650." Actually, that is the lowest fare category on that flight and DD will need to pay approximately $80 USD more to upgrade to the next category, so she can check one bag. That will also permit her to select her seat assignments when she makes her reservation.
  19. I have been watching my Google Flight Fare Trackers for DD for her return to the USA and then to RDU during the first week of January 2022. She isn't positive about where she will be in Europe for New Years at this time, so I was thinking she might wait until November 14th to buy that ticket. That was wrong... Then, I moved it up to November 7th, when the USA will revert to Standard time. That was wrong.... Between Sunday morning and Monday morning the fare went up $82 USD. It had to do with the flight to RDU filling up and there are finite number of seats available in each fare category. I'm hoping she will make a decision and buy the ticket ASAP. I found one great flight (lots of "bang for the buck") which is hard to do in such a peak travel season. Book ASAP!
  20. This is from 2018 and I do not remember the name of the exact course that my DD took from Kaplan for ACT preparation. At that time, there was a tie-in between ACT and Kaplan and it was on the web site of one or both of them. It was extremely inexpensive for access for several months at that time. (I don't remember how many months, but it was $100 USD at that time). That particular course had a lot of videos the students could watch at their convenience, as many times as they wanted to. More importantly, there were occasional live sessions with an Instructor where the students could ask questions. My DD found those live sessions extremely helpful... Asking questions and getting answers from a Live Instructor can be very helpful for a student... For the SAT she used KhanAcademy which is free and has a tie-in with SAT, almost exclusively. She did a little better on the ACT than on the SAT but her test results were pretty close. ETA: Based on some posts in threads here on WTM, 1 to 3 years ago, I believe there were a number of positive comments about Prep Scholar for ACT and/or SAT test preparation?
  21. OP I haven't read the replies but instead of buying something that wasn't made for you, I suggest that you get your eyes examined by an Optometrist (or an Opthalmologist) and that you ask for two (2) very different prescriptions. Please note that the P.D. in each pair will be different than in the other pair of eyeglasses. The first pair will be for "close up" work when you are using your computer or reading. The second pair will be for "distance" when you are out of the house "on the street" Get the 2 prescriptions (each one with the correct P.D.) and then order from Zenni Optical (that's what we do) or buy them wherever you want. The money will be well spent and your eyes will thank you for that.
  22. @Faith-manorI did not read the article you linked to, but I am very sad to know that a university would subject their students to windowless dorm rooms. That's like living in a closet... IMO it would be very depressing... My DD has lived in 2 different dorms at UNC. The second one was built much more recently and has huge windows in the rooms. There is lots of light there and it does make a positive difference for the students who live in that dorm.
  23. The FAFSA DD and I just completed is for her 4th year. I asked her if when she submitted the FAFSA it indicated what the EFC will be. It is about 13 or 14 times what her EFC was for the first year. I wondered what the relationship is between the AGI and the EFC and Googled for that and there certainly is a relationship. Her EFC for that school year is less than 5% of her AGI on the 2020 Federal return. I'm glad we finished the FAFSA
  24. Amen to wishing for more help about how to answer a question. The last 2 questions DD had to answer were "Yes" or "No". She contacted me at about 345 A.M. our local time (there is a 7 hour time difference). I spent 1 or 2 hours, trying to figure out the answers to those 2 questions. That seems so incredibly simple, but sometimes Semantics are involved and it's not so easy. I looked at her Form 1098-T for the year 2020 and also at her Federal return for 2020, trying to figure out how to answer those 2 questions. I ended up sending her the information I'd found and suggested that she study that information and then log into the FAFSA form and read the questions again and what I'd found. She answered the 2 questions and we are done...
  25. OP here. Finally DD and I are done with the FAFSA... We began working on it and then she went on an 8 or 9 day Field Trip with about 40 people in her cohort and then they were back for a week and then she had a 9 day break from the "Semester Abroad" program and she went to 3 places in that short time. We are done with this FAFSA! Something that was on the "To Do" list has been crossed off...
