Experienced Mom asking, perhaps, a silly question
Haupia replied to AimeeM's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I had a baby with reflux. Have you tried him sleeping in a carseat, or one of those inclined bouncer things. or even putting a pillow under the mattress to raise the head. All my babies wouldn't sleep on their backs either. They just preferred tummy. BUT with the whole breathing issue in your family. I would definetely incline. -
You probably are not being brought up. The comment made public are usually about what is going on in their lives. Anyone posting about someone elses life is irritating. It isn't a gossip network. It is a "Hey, I just had a baby. Here are the pics" kind of thing. You are good, don't worry about it :)

Could this be whooping cough?
Haupia replied to Tiramisu's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Whooping cough has a distinct sound. You can actually listen to it on Youtube. My sound isn't working or I would pull it up. Always good to get it checked out just in case :) -
calling all bakers...I need your help

We do different kinds of themes instead of flavors...just an idea. For my daughter she had an electric guitar made out of cake. http://www.bettycrocker.com/recipes/electric-guitar-cake/11f9e698-0220-4993-997a-967c4112d34c You could totally make it with natural stuff instead though :) -
If the window has Ben open, it could have been Mosquitos. Definitely give some benydryl. Bless his heart. Maybe cover in bug spray before tonight.

:iagree: I guess I would say before ever talking about the behavior issue, Iwould sit down one night and really deeply discuss how you want your family to be raised and your home to be like, without discussing the issue. What kind of parents you want to be. What kind of relationships you want with your kids. What kind of expectations you have for cleanliness and behavior. Right it down. I found my dh and I had very similar wants.....but maybe lack of knowledge on how to get there. So when something arose, there were just fireworks. Once we both knew what we wanted we came up with a mutual plan to get there. It totally helped....and we're still working on it. This does not happen overnight. Also, when it comes to this certain issues. Listen completely without interruption and ask question to try and completely understand what he is expecting of the kids. A lot of times my dh and I wanted the same things but said it differently. Also, you can't discuss it in front of the kids, or while you are both mad. You both have to take a deep breath and say I want to hear your side. then try and come up with something that you both agree on, even if it means not going with either of your ideas. I found a lot of times my husband and I disliked the same behavior, but because I handled it different than him, he thought approved the behavior. Once he understood we were on the same page we were able to come up with a plan of attack, or I had more freedom to do it the way I want. LOVE the book 7 habits of an effective family. Huge life changer. Hope that helps. :001_smile:

4-5 dc was a HUGE jump for me too. Especially because my two youngest are energizer bunnies! All my children have to participate in chores except for baby, but he is being trained ;). He helps with laundry or whatever else he wants to participate in. Currently I am researching toddler activities on pinterest, but all my youngest wants to do is play in the sink and bathe in the water from the fridge dispenser :001_huh:. So yes, it is insanity here too. My oldest is entering middle school so she reads the science to the kids and then I go over it with them and add on my own tidbits. She also has a lot of independent work. I have also included my middle boys on playing with their brother as well. Everyone pitches in. I am definetely half crazy sometimes....especially this week with sick kids... And I am still nursing through the night, so totally understand exhaustion. House isn't perfect, but try to at least not let it go absolutely insane. Also, my oldest will watch the kids in the mornings sometimes when I am up all night. That is a huge help, but I try not to do it during the week with school unless I am no longer functioning. Good Luck mamma! That fact that you care enough to ask shows that you are doing an amazing job. You love them and are trying your best. Glad you posted though, because this week has been rough, and nice to know I am not failing, just have a lot on my plate. :)

My daughter has used Singapore math through most of elementary and will be using it her 6th grade year, but where do you go after that? Are the 7-12 singapore math just as good, or do you change curriculums. I want to make sure that what ever I do this year, will prepare her for next year. TIA

Singapore math: switching from US to standards?
Haupia replied to Haupia's topic in Logic Stage & Middle Grade Challenges
I have another question....Would it change anything for 7th grade by switching editions, or do I still start with singapore 7th grade math, or is there a third option? Thanks -
We use Shurley English as well. It covers all of that very thoroughly.

Singapore math: switching from US to standards?
Haupia replied to Haupia's topic in Logic Stage & Middle Grade Challenges
What awesome answers!!! I am pretty sure my daughter would be mortified if I had her keep doing 5b after finishing the US 5b. But I kinda like that idea. The standards covers so much more. So it is better to switch them earlier then? I might start doing that with my younger ones. Thanks :) -
How to get some quiet during the day
Haupia replied to Joyful's topic in General Education Discussion Board
This is my problem. my two youngest are little teasers, and they never stop moving. I am going nuts. Definitely :bigear: :001_smile: -
I love what you said!! My SIL LOVES to start up a good ole bash on homeschooling, so I usually don't post anything on FB about it, because I KNOW she will chime in. Not really sure why some people feel obliged to tell you how to live. I am totally using your statement for our next debate :) Honestly, if they weren't taught at home to behave....how will they learn what is inappropriate. I have learned it is ok to stand up for yourself, ( due to already dealing with the same crap from my inlaws) I would probably just address her next time through a message. Then everyone can just look at her post and say what the crap!

Help! How do I unclog an ear on vacation?
Haupia replied to praisefor3's topic in General Education Discussion Board
When I was on swim team we used to put hydrogen peroxide in our ears after practice..... I know that my daughter started getting an infection in her ear so we made garlic oil. My search engine isn't working, so I can't find the exact recipe. but basically olive oil and garlic clove, and put in the microwave. From what I read it works better than an antibiotic. It is stronger. You take a qtip dip in the oil and swab just inside ear canal. NOT DEEP...just like cleaning your ear :)
