  1. I don't like to see a specialist dentist unless I really need one. The same is true for my kids. I find that specialists like to look for small problems, that can turn in to catastrophes. Then treat the small problem like it is a catastrophe, because that is often what they see happen. But (!) catastrophes, don't always happen, and that baby tooth with a soft spot, may be just fine until it falls out. Trust your gut, if it seems like it is too much, then it probably is. It would depend on what tooth and where it is before I made that decision. All those extras you see in the lobby, are added to your bill. Someone pays for them, and that someone is you. The pediatric dentist sees kids who need root canals, that could have been prevented by early intervention. But that doesn't mean every soft spot needs a filling. If this dentist, will use nitrous and do a root canal on a kid, then they probably are sent cases from all over. Because of this, the pediatric dentist see a higher amount of those cases, that other dentists. Making them hyper-sensitive to early treatment. IT is much easier to fill a soft spot, than to do a root canal. Just like it is easier to wear gloves all day to prevent an infected paper cut that requires medical attention. Can a severe paper cut happen, sure, but is it likely....no. If the soft spot turns into a cavity, then you can have it filled and deal with the decision then. Dd10 did have a soft spot filled but she was 8 and it was in her molar, that she was expected to keep another 4 years. We did feel like it would have worsened but they felt like we could wait if we wanted. We decided to have it fixed, it took less than 10 minutes. The dentist used air, blew out the problem area and filled it. Our main reason was because by doing it now with air she wouldn't feel a thing. She would have needed a shot to fill it later... not a root canal scare. Both of my kids have had sealants...no nitrous, no problems. Unless your kids are hypersensitive to going to the dentist, I would move them from the office you are now visiting. Move to a main steam dentist with a friendly office, kind demeanor, and who gives you real options instead of scare tactics. I would ask your friends who they use. I wouldn't ask about toys in the lobby or extra treats. I would ask about the staff, how they are with the kids and if the kids mind going to the dentist. I would call the office and ask how much they charge for a basic filling, ask if that price is standard in the industry (looking for any honest answer here), and if they bill your insurance. I would ask how they feel about children's treatments, if they use fluoride or not depending on your preference, and if they will allow you to be with your child if they need you. I would then ask how much they would charge to do a second opinion for you, and let them know that you are considering a switch for your family. If they know you will be considering them for the treatment (if needed) they may charge less for the second opinion.
  2. What is cracking me up about this thread is the overwhelming Pampered Chef theme! I don't really have much that I don't use. I don't buy kitchen gadgets and the few I have, I use. I avoid any and all Pampered Chef or related parties! Okay, I went looking and I found a tortilla press. Actually I forgot I even had it. I was just thinking the other day that my bag of corn flour was probably too old and I should get rid of it and buy a new one. But, then I remembered that I don't really like to make hand made tortillas as much as I like to eat them. Hence, my purchase of the tortilla press :D Okay, my mission this week is to make tortillas and either decide that the press is worthy, or not and get rid of the flour and press if need be.
  3. I think Soph the Vet has a social group, maybe try there or PM her.
  4. Sure, people start thinking about a topic and posting about it. Also people may search for a topic, and post in multiple threads, the resurrect old threads and get old topics/threads going again. This is especially true about a certain curriculum. Someone will search for Right Start and then post in old threads about it. They can bring back to life old threads that were from a year ago. This will get people reading and answering questions about it, and keeping those threads on top again.
  5. When my mind races, I will also start a Thankful prayer. I will lay and think "I am thankful for xxx", and then repeat, repeat.... I can think of things for a very long while sometimes. This can help me channel bad thoughts to good ones. It can be as simple as "I am thankful that I bought that toy for Christmas for dd2, she really seems like it" Or more spiritual "I am thankful I have a warm bed, a warm husband, and a warm heart" I don't try to control the thoughts just allowing them to flow, and take my mind into a happy, thankful place.
  6. Personally I do crossword puzzles when I can't sleep. They distract me from my thoughts, and allow me to stay still long enough to drift off. I will also reread a book that I have read before. I will start in the middle so I can just read until I fall asleep.
  7. If you were going to recommend 1 book (or 5:001_smile: ) to someone who is not well read...what would it be & why? No details about the person or preferences... this is more about you. What book (or books) automatically comes to your mind, that you would like our mystery person to read? It doesn't have to be your favorite, or may be it is. It doesn't even have to be one you like. Maybe the most important point for your choice is that it made you uncomfortable and really made you think. What say you.... "I'd like to buy the world a book, and keep them company" (to the tune of the coca-cola song, just in case you missed it) ....but which one? ETA Thanks to Jean and pointing our my obvious mistake....we will assume our mystery person has read and already owns the Bible. :0)
  8. If I am buying new, I don't like to order early. I am already burnt out on this year, why would I add next year on top of it? I like to have the satisfaction of finishing this year, researching and ordering in summer, so that I get everything about a month early. That gives me a preview time, and a chance to check out new items without the pressure of my current year in my lap. If I am buying used, I shop early and stash it away so I am not looking at it.
  9. It is the right size serving in my house, because I eat that size all . day. long! One little bite you know, because a whole brownie would be too much. LOL. Or if your serving it with ice cream and caramel, whipped cream and a cherry. Now, that would just about right if you doubled the serving! Silly, silly brownie people, they don't know that sometimes chocolate is the only thing that stands between a mom and her kids untimely demise. Don't they know that too small of brownies result in kids, duct tape and walls becoming up close and personal. Silly, silly brownie people.
  10. My parents had 17 years difference...I think it was too much. Not from an ewww factor, even though my mom was 1mo at my dads high school graduation :0), but from a life path point of view. Mom was 27 and dad was 44 when they met. They always had generational issues. My dad was always in a different life phase than my mom. When my dad retired, my mom still had almost 20 years of work left ahead of her. When my mom was active and wanting to go out dancing (after us kids were grown) my dad would sit an watch her dance with other people b/c he couldn't keep up 40yo's body vs 60's. It was obvious, even to us kids that there was a difference between them. They almost divorced a couple of times. The last time was almost done, when dad got cancer. Mom moved back in to nurse him for 5 years until he died. I feel bad for people who have a large age differences because I lived with it and towards the end it isn't always a good fit.
  11. I work in a retail pharmacy. I ring people up at a register all day long. When someone is in my line, it is Their Turn. They can take as long as they need, as long as it has to do with the order. Write a check, double check a price, ask me a question about something I just rang up...as long as it is professional, legit, time appropriate (don't ask the clerk to get 5 more, different items that you forgot) and not purposefully deceitful, then take as long as you need. It was the stores fault that you needed to correct them, not yours. All you were asking for was the advertised price. It was the cashiers fault that she made you feel any other way. Prices should be right, and most stores have a policy that if the price rings up wrong, you get the item for Free. The store is breaking the law by not having the register ring up the price marked, they should be thanking you for catching the error and not making you feel bad for it. Personally, I will correct a cashier, if they do something in my order that results in money back in my favor, unless they have been acting like a dolt. I have tried to correct a dolts before and they just end up, arguing with me, telling me I am wrong, I do don't bother arguing with dolts anymore. In this case she should have given you the items for free anyways (Albertson's used to have this policy anyways) and so to that end, you still over paid :0). She is the one who didn't treat the situation with class not you. She is the professional, she should have acted like one. It really isn't complicated to have someone check a price and size of a box, especially if the display is viewable from the check stand. This should have taken maybe 30-60 seconds! She should have had an ad in her check stand, to verify price/size. All of these are not your fault. All you did was try to be a customer. Without customers....there is no store! She was the one in error dear, not you. Coupon shop away and remember that when you get to the front of the line...it is your turn! Take the time you need. You are a paying customer just like everyone else. Coupons are just like cash to a store.
  12. Update....job done! And since I had the shop vac out I got the 4 of 5 ceiling fans (one had clean laundry under it so I didn't touch it), upstairs vents, cobwebs, and chandeliers cleaned too!
  13. Texting to fellow Verizon users is my guess. If it is, it is typically cheaper.
  14. Sit here, you silly goose:D! Sewing a little project is something I enjoy if the kids will let me. They always want to help, and then it becomes more like school, and less like down time for me.:001_huh: I love to cook, when I can, again, do it alone :001_smile: I really do like my kids, it just isn't downtime for me if I am teaching them along the way.
  15. Absolutely go somewhere else (or find really cheep lodging and go anyways-alone!) that you can afford. A vacation for 3 days isn't really worth it IMHO. There are some really good deals at all inclusive, family friendly Mexican resorts. Cruises can be a good deal right now too, but watch the fees and extras (ask an experience cruiser to help book). Let them know that you want a 7 day vacation and have decided to change plans. Good luck, and have fun with your new vacation! Travel zoo is a good place to check for good deals. If you have already booked your airline tickets, I would look for a really cheap hotel that you can stay in by yourselves. You won't need to be in your room much anyways. Just get one within 'kid' walking distance of the beach!

  17. We were on our 2 year contract for 3-4 years. The only problem I had with my phone was the battery wasn't holding a charge. This is true with any rechargable battery after 3+ years of use. Try Costco and see what phones they have. When we bought new phones they had a lot to choose from.
  18. How exciting. Have you started dreaming about pink bedrooms, baby dolls and pony tails yet?
  19. For us using a program that 'fits' is part of the solution to the original problem. Not everyone original reason for homeschooling is the same. Not everyone has a deep yearning passion for homeschooling. Not every child is a good home school student. Not every family who home schools, does it successfully. Not everyone home schools because they think it is the absolute best solution for their family. They may just not like their assigned public school and can't afford private. They settled on homeschooling as the best option at the time. These programs open up opprotunities for them. This is what makes the charter school or home programs a viable option.
  20. oops, sorry these were the only ones I could find online. The croc website wouldn't open for me earlier, and it won't from the link either. Maybe they are having issues today. Here is another link to this shoe....http://www.shoesonashoestring.com/ProductPage.aspx?Style=LENA.CRO&colorcode=BROWN&dept=FOOTWEAR&isFromCart=False&utm_source=GoogleBase&utm_medium=ShoppingPortal&utm_term=LENA.CRO-BROWN&utm_campaign=CROCS
  21. Stainless steel cookie sheets would be very heavy but you may be able to find them at a commercial restaurant supply. I have ordered through servu-online.com before and got good service. I use aluminum, but don't cook anything caustic on them. I don't cook tomato based items on the pans, or any vinegar based for that matter. I use either a silpat or parchment paper to bake on, to make clean up easier.
