My youngest did an evolution and prehistory year and it was hands down one of my favorites. ❤️ If you're looking for some more books or ideas our list is on this link. 6th Extinction has a young reader now too.

Thank you! Somehow it's never occurred to me to devote a semester or longer to evolution & prehistory. I've always tacked it on rather quickly at the beginning of our ancients year, and never gotten much in depth, but I think my little ones especially might like this idea.

Thank you for mentioning the young readers' Sixth Extinction! I would've probably never found it, and that's one I wouldn't want to miss.

My son will be 4 this spring so we’ll be starting pre-k in the fall.

Phonics - I have Abeka K4 so we’ll probably use that for phonics unless he hates it like his big brother 🙂

Handwriting - Handwriting Without Tears Pre-K. Taking it slow and mostly using the chalkboard to work on tripod grip.

Math - Preschool Math at Home. Love this so much!

Tagging along with my kindergartener for science, social studies and enrichment (using either Gentle + Classical Primer or MP Enrichment K)!

I've been looking for a preschool math and completely forgot about this! It looks pretty good so I think I'll try it!

  3. My youngest will be turning 3 in July, so she'll be dipping her toes into some "school" this year. This is a very relaxed plan.

    Basics:

    • Toddler Lesson Plans Learning ABC's - for a Letter-of-the-Week type thing - I may add in some OPGTR if she's interested.
    • Toddler Lesson Plans Learning Colors - she's pretty good with these but it'll be something fun
    • Kumon books - Let's Cut Paper, etc. for basic skills.

Math: Preschool Math at Home - I think this may transition nicely into Wild Math later on. My 5yo will be doing Wild Math 1 next year, so since we'll be outside anyway doing math for him, I may dip into Wild Math K for the 3yo.

For the Love of Homeschooling Nature Study units

Tot School-type activities, lots of crafts, helping in the garden, lots of picture books, dot-to-dots & colouring.

  14. Our oldest... This is definitely still a work in progress!

He was considering trades, not sure which yet. I'm hoping he'll get to play around with a few throughout the year to really narrow down his interest.

We've decided to enrol him in the online classes provided by our (charter school?) homeschool "school board" for Math 10 & English 10. Given that he'll be doing grade 12 for everything else, these are purely to get them on his transcripts as these 2 classes are the sole requirements for the majority of the trade courses here, and without proof he's done them, he can't enrol. We haven't done school board-led classes before, and I don't look forward to it, but I'm hoping that because these are conveniently back-to-back on the same days each week, we'll have an easier time with it.

    Math:

    • His first semester will be online Math 10 with the school board
    • Second semester I'll continue as planned with a consumer math / personal finance - not sure what we'll use yet. I picked up a unit from Wonder House Creative for filing taxes, and we've got the Budget Simulator game.

    Science/Nature:

    • Guest Hollow's Chemistry in the Kitchen
    • something for survival, edible plants, etc. (this will be in addition to what he learns at Jr. Canadian Rangers)

    Social Studies:

    • Guest Hollow's Government, Economics, and Personal Finance - switching some US resources out for Canadian, like Creating History's Canadian Civics
    • Careers - some variation of hands-on trial, the Gather 'Round unit, and The One-Week Job Project
    • Donna Ward's Canada in the 20th Century
    • with the modern history portion of Guest Hollow's Whirlwind World History

    Language Arts:

    • First semester English 10 online class with the school board
    • Second semester either a level of Lightning Lit, or Excavating English?
    • Vocab from Classical Roots D & E
    • Spelling Wisdom 5

    Extras:

    • French - Breaking the French Barrier ?
    • Junior Canadian Rangers - I think the group will be working toward their hunters license this year.
    • Hubby will do a roadside troubleshooting sort of car maintenance with him & his brother before they get their full license
    • Piano
    • Working our way through Home Ec for Everyone
