  1. Thank you! Somehow it's never occurred to me to devote a semester or longer to evolution & prehistory. I've always tacked it on rather quickly at the beginning of our ancients year, and never gotten much in depth, but I think my little ones especially might like this idea. Thank you for mentioning the young readers' Sixth Extinction! I would've probably never found it, and that's one I wouldn't want to miss.
  2. I've been looking for a preschool math and completely forgot about this! It looks pretty good so I think I'll try it!
  3. My youngest will be turning 3 in July, so she'll be dipping her toes into some "school" this year. This is a very relaxed plan. Basics: Toddler Lesson Plans Learning ABC's - for a Letter-of-the-Week type thing - I may add in some OPGTR if she's interested. Toddler Lesson Plans Learning Colors - she's pretty good with these but it'll be something fun Kumon books - Let's Cut Paper, etc. for basic skills. Math: Preschool Math at Home - I think this may transition nicely into Wild Math later on. My 5yo will be doing Wild Math 1 next year, so since we'll be outside anyway doing math for him, I may dip into Wild Math K for the 3yo. For the Love of Homeschooling Nature Study units Tot School-type activities, lots of crafts, helping in the garden, lots of picture books, dot-to-dots & colouring.
  4. I didn't see a thread for 5th grade, sorry if it's a repeat! This is the only grade I hadn't planned out yet, so here we go. I'd love to see what everyone else is up to! Math: TGTB 4 & 5 (& maybe Math Mammoth) Science & Nature: Blossom & Root Level 2 - Plants & Fungi - starting over summer with younger brother, ties in with the Botany her older siblings are doing Beginning Herbalism unit from Wild Learning Kids' Herb Book + Boreal Herbal - identifying local plants and their uses A bit of gardening, focus on our unique climate Wilderness first aid & survival skills/bushcraft Blossom & Root Level 5 - Astronomy (over winter, since we can't see the stars at other times of the year) maybe some Mystery Science For the Love of Homeschooling Nature Study units History: Prehistory, evolution, paleontology/archaeology & mythology Blossom & Root Prehistoric Life from Level 3 Build Your Library's Evolution unit, & Prehistory unit Layers of Learning Ancients Canadian Studies: Geography - Great Canadian Adventure's Canadian Geography Geography - The Canadian Adventure (Canadian Homeschooler) History - My Canadian Time Capsule (Canadian Homeschooler) History - Great Canadian Adventure's Canadian History History - DIY Year 2 Language Arts: Grammar: Fix It? 5. This is our second kiddo to get to 11th, so I'm still figuring this out. He needs (either this year or next) a Math 11 & English 11 on his transcripts in order to enter trade school. I'm not sure if he'll do it this year or not. Math: he may take a Math 11 through the school board for transcripts, if not he'll use Teaching Textbooks Science/Nature: Guest Hollow's Botany - we'll start this earlier to take advantage of our short summer Crash Course Botany videos Kids' Herb Book + Boreal Herbal - identifying local plants and their uses, herbal remedies, tea blending A bit of gardening, especially for our unique climate Wilderness first aid & survival skills Real Science Odyssey Level 2 Astronomy - winter sub-in for botany since it's too bright at night at any other time of year Socials: Prehistory, evolution, paleontology/archaeology & mythology/cryptozoology Great Canadian Adventure's Canadian Cryptids Layers of Learning Ancients Guest Hollow's Whirlwind World History (Ancients portion) K12 Human Odyssey text Canadian Studies: Canadian History Year 2 Headphone History's Canadian Geography Language Arts: he may take an English 11 through the school board for transcripts Excavating English Lightning Lit 1 semester Canadian Handwriting Misc: French through Rosetta Stone Typing
  6. My little guy's turning 6 in early September and he's been easing into school for Jr. Kindy & Kindy. We took a few programs and did them half-speed to spread them through 2 years. 14. Our oldest... This is definitely still a work in progress! He was considering trades, not sure which yet. I'm hoping he'll get to play around with a few throughout the year to really narrow down his interest. We've decided to enrol him in the online classes provided by our (charter school?) homeschool "school board" for Math 10 & English 10. Given that he'll be doing grade 12 for everything else, these are purely to get them on his transcripts as these 2 classes are the sole requirements for the majority of the trade courses here, and without proof he's done them, he can't enrol. We haven't done school board-led classes before, and I don't look forward to it, but I'm hoping that because these are conveniently back-to-back on the same days each week, we'll have an easier time with it. Math: His first semester will be online Math 10 with the school board Second semester I'll continue as planned with a consumer math / personal finance - not sure what we'll use yet. I picked up a unit from Wonder House Creative for filing taxes, and we've got the Budget Simulator game.
