Fine Arts - Masterpiece Society Drawing 101, & some Medieval & Renaissance artists on the side Typing Some kind of Home Ec. I just found this Life Skills for Young Men so I'm looking through it to see how it'll fit. If not, I'll come up with something similar. We were considering enrolling him in a local babysitting first aid course, so I'd incorporate that, and he has a toddler brother that I can buddy him up with for a bit more practice. I might throw some personal finance into this as well, or save it for next year. Everything's still up in the air at this point. Woodworking Hubby has issued a mandatory car maintenance/roadside fixes sort of thing for the kids before they get their license. DS is able to go for his learners permit in 2 months, so this will be happening in the fall(?) before there's too much snow. Some sort of emergency preparedness unit. Natural disasters, fire drills... a youth version of wilderness safety/survival (?) for bears mostly. We're trying to beef him up a bit, he's got almost no meat on him. We're trying to build his endurance and strength. If there weren't so many loose dogs around I'd have him start jogging but we'll have to find something else.
  7. We moved from Ontario (right on the NY border) to the Yukon, next to Alaska. They follow BC education guidelines here. I've tried looking into this more locally and asking on local groups but there doesn't seem to be much discussion about it or precedence with going the non-online class route. We do know someone who was homeschooled herself and she's said that she went for the GED without issue as far as I know. DS is planning to get his carpentry certificate, becoming an apprentice, and going into business for himself or with his younger brothers who are also (currently) planning to go into trades. I suppose I should ask about it at the local college. I did look into the carpentry course today and found prerequisites are Math 10 and English 10, and that apprenticeships can begin at age 16, so maybe I shouldn't be too concerned. Thank you all for your insight!
  8. GED's are relatively normal for homeschoolers, right? I'm having a slight panic that I'm messing up my son's future by having him on a GED path. I don't think there were any other options when we started homeschooling, but we've moved provinces and things are done differently here. He's just started grade 9. but it's expected that homeschool students completely switch to live online classes provided by provincially-accredited teachers for grades 10-12, which will earn them a regular high school diploma. These are provided by the homeschool school board (sort of). I hate the thought of it. But... we can opt out and do things our own way and have him take the GED instead. He's been thinking (for a while) that he'd like to go into carpentry, or maybe some other trade. He'll be fine, right? Unfortunately he's our guinea pig, but I'd like to feel a bit more reassured in this decision. Especially so I can plan for next year ahead of time.

  12. Thank you for your insight! I think these might just do the trick. 🙂
  13. These sound interesting. Would you know what the difference is between the different state editions? I'm seeing Texas, Indiana, and Ohio. I'm sure it wouldn't matter much anyway given that we're in Canada. Thank you!
  14. Thank you for the suggestions. The Real Science 4 Kids looks like it might work for us, but I'll keep looking.
