  1. This is my first time planning grade 8. Math - no idea. He's finishing Math Mammoth so I need to figure out what comes next. Teaching Textbooks Pre-Algebra? We'll do the placement test. Group Subjects Canadian History (Year 1 of 2) Canadian Geography Canadian Government Mystery Science tag-along Mr. Q Adv. Chemistry Get Started With French/CAP French for Children/DuoLingo
  2. I'm constantly debating holding this kid back a grade. He's generally been doing the same as his younger brother (1 year younger) and aside from math I think it'll stay that way. Math - Math Mammoth? We might give Teaching Textbooks a try this year. Language Arts Spelling - Spelling Workout? Grammar - Editor in Chief 1 Reading - Writing - Writing Strands 3 & 4? Writing & Rhetoric? WWE 4? Vocab - Vocabulary From Classical Roots 5 & 6 Handwriting - Canadian Handwriting E Typing - Typesy? Epistory? Group Subjects Canadian History (Year 1 of 2) Modern History (SOTW 4) Mystery Science Mr. Q Chemistry Get Started With French/CAP French for Children/DuoLingo Still working...
  3. I need to submit math and LA educational plans this week, otherwise I'd be planning over the summer... Math - Math Mammoth? We might give Teaching Textbooks a try? 5. I'm still thinking things through, but educational plans for math and LA are due this month so I'm trying to finalize at least those subjects. DD will be 5 in November. Math - We have Saxon K. I think she's a bit beyond it, but I'm not sure. Singapore K? She'll like the manipulatives. Reading - thinking OPGTR &/or AAR Pre-Reading Writing - HWT K books Misc. - Wordly Wise 3000 K Tagging along for group subjects Canadian History (Year 1 of 2) Canadian Geography Canadian Government Mystery Science Mr. Q Chemistry? Get Started With French/CAP French for Children
  6. Yesterday, I submitted our education plans for next school year, for the first year we've had to do so, and they were already approved! What a relief to get such a major stress off my shoulders!

  7. There is a youtube video review of BYL 8 that I found very in-depth and informative. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MXeSd8dIyqc She mentions that the history spine is used more as a general overview of what was happening throughout history at that point.
  8. DD will be 4 in November, so this plan is light. Currently she tags along sometimes, but she does like to be included when everyone else is schooling. We've recently moved to a new province and she isn't required to start school until 5 here. Science, history and BYL are group subjects. I'll have age-appropriate plans for her if she feels inclined to join in. BYL 0 - I might repeat this for her the following year depending how much she participates. I also bought a few books to look at throughout the year, and since BYL 0 is geography and animal science I might have her map where each animal comes from. History: SOTW 3 Science: Mr. Q Earth Math: some of Saxon K Morning time: we sing folk songs, memory songs, O Canada... Language Arts: Wordly Wise K dry-erase alphabet book letter/number magnets, and Leapfrog Word Whammer & videos Kumon books - cutting/pasting/folding, etc. French: I'm not sure if I'll actively start this with her but she'll probably pick some up from listening in. I'd like to add in some sort of outdoor safety unit study. I dislike how so many TV shows portray bears as cute and friendly, she hardly believes us that she could be bear food. While she doesn't go outside without me, she panics easily and either freezes or runs in circles, so...
  9. Rough idea... Geography: BYL 0 + extras. This will be a group subject with both Level 0 and Level 7 used (depending on the kid) History: SOTW 3 Early Modern (group subject) Science: Mr. Q (group subject) + Mystery Science Math: MM 2 Language Arts: Canadian Handwriting B First Language Lessons 2 Writing With Ease 2 All About Spelling 2 French: L'Art de Dire? I'm also considering something to reinforce outdoor safety. A unit study, maybe? The bears are out now and she keeps thinking her first reaction should be to run.
  10. Pretty much copy/pasted from the 5th grade thread since both boys are doing the same things. He needs a LOT of handwriting practice. He likes writing, and will often write more than expected, but I can barely read it. Geography: group subject, mix of BYL 7 and 0. I know 0 is below his level, but he's not ready for 7 as-is. History: SOTW 3 Early Modern (group subject) Science: Mr. Q (group subject) + Mystery Science Math: MM 4 Language Arts: Fix It (currently doing book 1) will finish this if not completed and then try Editor in Chief Sequential Spelling Vocabulary from Classical Roots 4 Canadian Handwriting (whichever book he's at) Writing & Rhetoric (whichever book he's at) French: Some mix of Getting Started with French, CAP's French for Children A, and DuoLingo. We're so behind on this.
  11. Rough idea... This is DS #2 who, in the past, has tried his bare minimum at school. As a result he's more or less on the same level for most things as DS #3 who will be in Grade 4. Geography: group subject, mix of BYL 7 and 0. I know 0 is below his level, but he's not ready for 7 as-is. History: SOTW 3 Early Modern (group subject) Science: Mr. Q (group subject) + Mystery Science Math: MM 4-5, wherever he ends up after this year Language Arts: Fix It (currently doing book 1) will finish this if not completed and then try Editor in Chief Sequential Spelling Vocabulary from Classical Roots 4-5 Canadian Handwriting (whichever book he's at) Writing & Rhetoric (whichever book he's at) French: Some mix of Getting Started with French, CAP's French for Children A, and DuoLingo. We're so behind on this.
  12. He's my first 7th grader, and this is a rough idea, but... BYL 7 (group subject, sort of. We're also doing BYL 0 since they're both world geography so the others will do a mix of them) History: SOTW 3 Early Modern (group subject) + extras Science: Mr. Q (group subject) + extras + Mystery Science if he wants to tag along Math: MM 7 Language Arts: Fix It (currently book 2), if he isn't finished by the end of this school year, he'll finish that and then we might try Editor in Chief for a break Sequential Spelling (currently book 3, will just continue) Vocabulary from Classical Roots (whichever book he's at) Figuratively Speaking Canadian Handwriting (I can't remember which book he's on) Writing & Rhetoric (whichever book he's at - we're behind on this) French: Some mix of Getting Started with French, CAP's French for Children A, and DuoLingo. We're so behind on this. I'm still trying to figure out fine arts, typing, logic... I'd like to add in some Canadian history (and geography) because it's been a while and we've never finished it, and it's still a few years before he'll do it again. I'm working on a reading list because I think I may sub out some from BYL 7. This is our first year with funding, so I can pretty much go nuts with curriculum so we'll see what I end up with.
  13. This is awesome, and insanely handy to know. We're moving North of 60 this/next year and will probably be schooling with limited space. I can save 4 binders worth of printing! Thanks!
  14. I'm with the kids 24/7 since hubby moved across the country. We're waiting to go with him, but it'll be a while. I'm an introvert and having people constantly talking to me, swarming around me, etc, drains me. (I only realized this after having a bunch of kids, my bad.) I don't get out by myself because I don't have a (reliable) babysitter, so we run errands and shop for groceries together. I have tried to get everyone in the routine of having a 'quiet hour' to themselves, and I have tried to schedule this during the baby's nap so that even I get time to relax. Unfortunately, I don't have enough quiet spaces in this house for all of the kids. Having an hour to read or knit without disruptions, or kids not getting along, is amazing. Once the baby outgrows her naps, I'll probably have the girls play quietly in their room together (with the baby monitor), depending on the layout of the new house.
  15. I have a couple times, but I don't remember how exactly. DH has known, though, which is even weirder, just by a feeling.
