  1. I hear you! I am mentally preparing myself for canning tomatoes next week.
  2. We use kefir grains to make our own kefir milk. All the children love kefir smoothies. It's an excellent source of probiotics.
  3. Large Family Logistics by Kim Brenneman has been a huge asset in getting my family organized. Our weekly chore schedule goes like this: Monday: Laundry & Bathrooms Tuesday: Office Day Wednesday: Town Day Thursday: Kitchen Day Friday: Cleaning Day For each specified day I've made a weekly and monthly chore list. We each take a job and it gets done pretty quickly. I've assigned "permanent jobs" to each child and they are responsible for cleaning that area and keeping it clean throughout the day. I haven't quite ironed out our school schedule yet. It goes something like this: 6:00am Wake up 6:15am ds13 & ds12 - Math 7:00am dd7 & ds 5 - Grammar 8:00am Permanent Jobs / Daily Chores 8:30am Breakfast / Clean up breakfast 9:00am Group Schooling 10:00am Individual Schooling 12:00pm Lunch 12:30pm Clean up lunch / Perm Job check 1:00pm finish schooling and/or free time 5:00pm Dinner 5:30pm clean up dinner / Perm Job check 6:00pm Baths 7:00pm Reading together / Bible Study / Family Games (etc...) 8:00pm Bedtime routines (older children can read in bed if quiet) I am more of a routine type person and don't stress out if 9:00am is approaching and we are no where near the point of sitting down as a group. This "loose schedule" helps the children stay on track and helps me out when I get stressed. The part I haven't worked out is being available for each child when they need me. :)
  4. We also used the ClosetMaid cube bookcases. I absolutely LOVE them! Ours are white and very easy to clean as well.
  5. I am pleased to read the opinions on this matter. I recently came to the conclusion to put my 7th grader in R&S 6 this coming year. I too was allowing the "grade level" to bother me.
  6. I've completely changed gears with homeschooling this year. For the past few months I've been gathering info and deciding what books I need to buy. One day I happened to walk by the bookshelf and spot a book that was on my "to buy" list! :D
  7. I like our library for the most part. However, they do not have a lot of the books I'm looking for. I found out this week that we can join the library in the next county over for free. Hopefully we'll get a better assortment of what we want between the two library systems.
