  1. There was a placement test (it is on their site). You administer it to them and then send the scores in and they do a free evaluation with you.
  2. thank you... He is upset and feels he "can't" write any better, although I know he can. I am really only concerned with him being able to sign paperwork and fill it out legibly. He *has* to develop a signature. He has been formally diagnosed since age 8. We do work on life skills and he is actually pretty good socially now. There are still moments, but for the most part he has grown in this regard by leaps and bounds. I have been given a lot of good information to pray about and talk over with my husband. Thanks again.
  3. I am so thankful for this thread. I am facing 9th grade with my DD and I have been freaking out. She is really wound up about college and her lovely grandparents have convinced her that there is NO POSSIBLE WAY I could prepare her to get accepted to the college of her choice. Throughout their doubts, I began to doubt myself. However, there is just not enough time in the day to dedicate (at home) to EVERYTHING the state says the PS kids must do. It would only get done that way if I skimmed the surface, or had them skim the surface, and that is a huge reason why we HS...so we can go deep. I also have a 10th grader but he is easier and less worry because we know the technical school he wants to go to has an easy set of requirements. He has special needs, and the technical school also caters to those.
  4. My 16 year old has Asperger's syndrome and dyslexia. It took forever just to get him to write, and even longer to where it was semi-legible. Through much training and work, he is now on level with his peers on everything except math. The problem is, he can only print still and even now looks like a 2nd grader (at best). He now has to sign things and it is horrible. So, I have decided he needs a handwriting program. I was thinking that the Getty-Dubay "Write Now" for him, but wondered if you all had any better suggestions. He is very upset about this, but he gets so frustrated when I make him re-do things for the neatness factor. I can tell he tries hard, but the basic skills are just not there.
  5. My non-mathy child did well on TT as far as doing the work, but nothing "stuck". He found a way to get through it somehow. So, I have sold off our TT and I am moving to Jones Geniuses. We have to start again on level 5, but in two years they should be through to college level math. I mother of a "non-mathy" kid set me on that path, and I am optimistic that this is *the* answer for us. I hope you find your answer.
  6. I am new here. We have been homeschooling for 6 years. I read these forums often, and finally decided to interact. We have three boys (17,16, 6) and one girl (14). We are in the process of becoming a foster family and will be accepting two placements under the age of two. Our family is Christian, and we teach our children from that world-view. Nice to "meet" everyone. :bigear: I'm "all ears" ready to listen to what y'all have to say. :bigear:
