  1. almond milk would taste best but unless you get a no-sugar version it won't be paleo approved either.
  2. what a cutie! so amazing that a baby could be born that small - what a blessing to celebrate her first birthday.
  3. On the Amazon student rules it says that if you've already received the amazon mom shipping benefit, that you can't get the amazon student benefit so switching over won't work. I had paid for prime the previous 2-3 years before amazon mom kicked in and no doubt I'll be getting prime again when my amazon mom benefits expire (in about a week I think). I just think of it as a bonus freebie year that saved me $79. :) I was pretty thrilled. Like the poster above, I have a bunch of kids and it's a huge time saver for me to order what I need from amazon and know it will be here in 2 days rather than hauling everybody to the store. I really think I get my $79 worth.
  4. Congrats! So glad to hear you got the birth you wanted.
  5. Rose, I am so sorry to hear you and your partner have separated. I haven't been on the boards much so if this is old news, I apologize for being so out of it. This situation is a big deal. Calling to say - may I keep the kids for the evening is not a big deal, saying - I will not bring them home and there's nothing you can do about it, is huge. :grouphug:
  6. People with more experience typically make more money (or at least they should lol) - that's my reasoning.
  7. Factors that I consider in paying sitters: - number of kids they are watching - will my kids be sleeping most of the time we are gone - will she have to do a meal - do I have to pick her up and take her home or does she have her own transportation (I really dislike having to provide transportation) - age of sitter (I do not pay a 13yo as much as I would pay a 16 or 18yo) For a 13yo I think the $4 an hour plus $1 an hour for each additional kid is a good idea.
  8. Posting on this thread as well. My 11yo 5th grader finished week one of WWS this week. I am very impressed with this program and so glad to have it for this year. He worked on the lessons fairly independently. The 4th lesson for the week did take him a lot longer than the previous days, but no more than 30-40 minutes (I think). He is particularly enjoying how the program directs him in how to improve his writing. Apparently he finds it refreshing to have his book (rather than his mother) tell him to proofread and read his sentences aloud before finalizing. :glare: At any rate, I am already seeing improvement and I am quite pleased.
  9. Just commenting for the general topic of the thread. My 11yo 5th grader son finished week one of ALL this week and it went very well; I am really pleased with it. He is using it in conjunction with WWS. Previous to doing ALL he completed FLL 3, GWG 4 and GWG5.
  10. I fold laundry directly into the owner's basket. Each of my 4 boys has a square basket labeled with their name. My twin girls share a smaller rectangular basket; I have a full size rectangular basket for dh and I. The baskets might sit out for a couple days while I'm working through all the loads but ideally when I get through the majority of the clothing loads everyone comes to put their own clothes away. I am kind of bad about getting my girls' stuff actually in their dresser though.
  11. This is just stuff for your own daughter to eat, right? You are trying to eliminate peanut butter from her lunch so she can sit by her friend without worry? If so, then absolutely stuff manufactured in the same facility would not be a big deal IMO. Also - I highly reccomend checking out sunbutter (sunflower seed butter - yum), almond butter or soynut butter as a sub in her sandwiches. My kids made the transition fairly smoothly when we needed to do so.
  12. We take a week in late September, a week at Thanksgiving, 2 weeks at Christmas, a week end of February, and a week in April. It works out to taking a week off about every 6 weeks.
  13. If I recall they were in size: 3, 5, 4, ?, 3, 2 at 12 months. I think it would be very hard to guess with any accuracy.
  14. Interesting! I bet they buy them in super small quantities then because I swear every time I look it's not there….hope you find it soon!
  15. They have been out of that instructor guide for almost a year I believe - you might need to break down and order at PHP. I looked to get one last year and they didn't have it - I've checked occasionally over the year and it's never in stock. Just fyi.
  16. Wow - I am late to the party on this thread but I have to say, after reading the first post, I am seriously enlightened as to how laid-back I am about our schooling! Seriously, I must have really low standards! wowsa. I hope you find some peace - regardless of how differently we approach things, I completely empathize with the feeling of being behind or unprepared. :grouphug:
  17. great post, thank you! I love the part about the kids trying to see who can get the most done! Sometimes in the midst of day to day, I forget to make stuff fun...this is a really good idea.
  18. I just bought some cauliflower today so I can try the cauli rice thing. I am hoping I (and DH) will like it. :)
  19. Hi Anna - and welcome! I totally wanted to call attention to the 17 kids in the other thread but I was too shy lol. I have 6, which is such a tiny # compared to 17! :)
  20. Have you checked Elana's Pantry website? She uses coconut flour in some of her recipes.
  21. The first of our christmas gifts arrived via UPS last week. :) ha! No seriously, it's true, but I have to clarify I've never been quite as early as I am this year.
  22. When we moved there are typically a few things that get slotted to go in our vehicle with us. The really breakable stuff or things that are impossible to box (tv?). I would put your tv there if you can. Depends on how many driving vehicles you have going with you. The last time we moved we had at least 4 vehicles going so it was easy to put all the computer stuff in the van, the tv and irreplaceable framed thingy in my parent's car, etc. If you are only driving one vehicle I would assume it would be filled with your children lol.
  23. It sounds to me like she is enjoying being the outspoken "I'll put it out there because no one else will" person in your family. I was a bit like that as a teenager - always willing to say what everybody was thinking but nobody would verbalize. It's pretty obnoxious. I totally understand the idea of wanting people to think I'm doing a good job or the right thing - particularly when it comes to something I'm really pouring my efforts into. It's hard; try not to dwell on it and come up with a firm statement that shuts the conversation down the next time it comes up.
