  1. I'd say it's better because you're on vacation. Think about living in one of those areas. You may be there surround by a vacation area, but how often will you actually partake of the vacation atmosphere? Imagine living your daily life. Work still needs to get done. I can certainly get too used to a view, or at least ignore it while I am busy. Vacation spots are also not all created equal. Some may be slower paced, some may not. Can a change of location be beneficial? I think it can in the right circumstances. If it is enough of a change to significantly affect a person's attitude and outlook. If a current location has nothing to offer, but activities in the new location are something that would be enjoyed on a regular basis. I still do not believe it makes life feel like a vacation all the time. I have lived both in the mountains and near the beach at different times.
  2. I thank you. This was helpful to me.
  3. In that type of situation I would only proceed if I could go with them to the bank for the loan to be paid off with my purchase. The bank should be able to sign off on the lien and I could get my title. I personally wouldn't trust someone to take my money and send me a title later. I know that in these times of online banking the loan may not be with a local bank, and I don't know what would make me comfortable to purchase in that situation.
  4. I give up. They are just going back and forth. Gymnastics are back on. So far it looks like a rotation of 15 minutes each.
  5. Boo, they have gone back to swimming after maybe 20 minutes of gymnastics.
  6. I just finished #3. Four and five are going to have to wait until everyone else is asleep.
  7. I am the one who is probably using the wrong terminology. Thank you for sharing what has worked for you. In a way I am talking about Visual Spatial learners, but I don't know that they need to be exclusively that type of learner. It's as if the goal of what a concept will be for needs to be known so that the steps learned along the way have a place to reside while waiting for all the steps to be taught. Otherwise some teachings appear randomly unrelated to anything and are easily forgotten instead of being filed away in the proper brain file for future reference. For example, in a traditional teaching environment where only a step by step approach is used some things can not be learned unless taught a second time after seeing the whole sequence and where it is supposed to end up. They must learn things twice, and in my opinion waste time, because the lesson has to have perspective to actually be learned. Wapiti had the best phrasing I have seen with whole to parts.
  8. It honestly doesn't matter which one you do first. They do have some similarities, but don't really build off each other. Whichever one you do first, the next one you will already have the beginning basics of supply and demand. I don't know anything about high school economics, but I have familiarity with college econ. In college a micro/macro sequence can be done in a year with one each semester. Again, it doesn't matter which one is taken first. That, in my experience, is personal preference.
  9. They are "relatively" close. One hour will get you from Mackinaw to the Soo, and an hour and a half will get you from the Soo to Tahquamenon. You can do some small hikes at Tahquamenon. Mackinaw City has Fort Mackinaw if that is of interest. Mackinac Island is definitely nice to visit. If you enjoy lighthouses there is Whitefish Point which also has the shipwreck museum. In the Soo there is a boat ride you can take through the locks.
  10. I'll join. I think I'll start with dd's room. Does anyone have any advice on how to purge children's books? Aside from books that simply don't interest anyone how do you decide when they have been outgrown?
  11. Buy frozen, they are much tastier than canned. Depending on what store I'm at it may be hard to find the ones without extra sauces. All the ready to serve steamables preseasoned have taken over some places.
  12. I have recently joined the electronic age and am converting to an electronic calendar from my pen and paper. I really hope this helps, is easier, and works. Can anyone who has made the switch tell me this is worth it? I am in the midst of the frustration of entering appointments and recurring activities. Please tell me the million buttons I am pressing to customize recurrence and who it belongs to will pay off in the future.
  13. Way too long. May 20something til after labor day. I've never seen a district that starts after labor day get out so early.
  14. I'd start with the kitchen. In my house, when the kitchen goes the rest of the house goes downhill. There's just something motivating about a nice clean kitchen. If you want an easy win to start, that would be the living room in our house.
  15. This situation is wrong in so many ways. A failure on the part of many. Why would the dog sitters relatives feel it is ok for them to visit a strangers house and make themselves at home? What was that parent thinking? It doesn't even feel like a house sitting situation to me. You do not invite random people into a job. These were not teenagers or young adults who thought it would be cool to have a party in an empty house, this was adults with families. I am sorry your vacation ended this way. If you can, I think these people need to know the situation was not appropriate.
  16. Yes. I'm sorry, I thought about putting in an explanation of what I meant by top down but couldn't come up with a way to express myself. I'm interested in things that show you the whole of what will be learned and the specifics are built after. See, even that sentence of mine doesn't quite do it for me. I know we are a bit young yet for this to be in play very much, but want to try where I can.
  17. Is there a curriculum that teaches with more of a top down style? We're currently looking at a K/1 level, but I'm looking for information for future reference also.
  18. My two cents. I have seen some professors refuse to allow recorders in their classes. Not all, or even most, but it does happen.
  19. You're a bunch of enablers. I debated, put it on my wish list, sat on the idea, and then the thread kept popping up. My kids are going to be very happy, thank you for sharing.
  20. Agreed. I can cook hamburger with something like spaghetti sauce and freeze that, but just the frozen hamburger and adding to it later does not taste right.
