  1. I've had one for a couple years but we never use it. I guess I just don't know how to cook spiraled vegetables.
  2. My biggest issue with meal planning is that I can plan and shop all I want, but if I don't actually prep and prepare it ahead of time, it'll never happen. There are 2 men here all day long yet I walk through the door at 6pm only to be asked what's for dinner. :glare: My response is usually whatever you make. If they wait for me to make it, they'll probably be going hungry! Since it's still early in the month, I think I'm going to start making a list of everything we eat for lunch/dinner in January. That should give me a good start for next month's planning, right?
  3. I'd have to buy a 16# bird for just the 3 of us! I have 21# and 23# turkeys thawing to feed 13 with leftovers.
  4. Here are two variations of roasted sweet potatoes - one is sweet, the other is not. Simple Maple Roasted Veg Simple and Savory Roasted Veg I'm sure you could substitute a butternut squash for the carrots/parsnips.
  5. I was wide awake when I woke up at 6:30. I'm so glad we're back to regular time. My internal clock doesn't follow DST and I live those months continually sleep-deprived.
  6. Following because we're hosting this year and I'm cooking MY way. Anyone that doesn't like my menu is welcome to stay home.
  7. I didn't even know there was a 1941 version. I'll have to look into that one too. Good to know about the 2008 film. I didn't realize it was a made for TV version. That's probably why I don't remember ever hearing it about it. LOL I know we're watching the 1931 Frankenstein film, which comes after our Dr. Jekyll unit, so I think the old b/w classics will be the way to go.
  8. In a few weeks we'll be reading Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde. I'm debating on which movie version to watch, not being familiar with any of them. I'm leaning towards the 1941 version with Spencer Tracy and Ingrid Bergman but noticed there's a 2008 version with Dougray Scott. Has anyone seen one or both of them and can speak to specifics about it?
  9. I have below-waist length curly hair, with wide streaks of gray at the temples. I'm 41 but recently started dying my hair again (stopped several years ago) because the gray streaks make me look older when I wear my hair pulled up, which is often. I use Garnier Olia 2.0 Soft Black, which covers the gray nicely and brightens the color of the length.
  10. Do you die at home or at the hairdresser's? I really hope I won't die anywhere anytime soon, but at home in my sleep would be my preferred choice.
  11. That is completely inappropriate behavior and I agree that you need to call the church office and speak to someone high up in leadership. IMO it sounds like they don't have enough adult leaders to keep track of all the kids, or have leaders that aren't bothering to keep track of them. We have an active youth group - about 100 kids that attend every week. Our games consist of basketball, football, volleyball outside before/after service and more appropriate indoor friendly games during services. All adults are assigned a specific area to monitor and any issues have to be reported to the group leader and the student's pastor or his wife. Even when we play dodgeball though we ask for extra adult volunteers to help monitor the kids and have a first aid station set up with at least 1 nurse on site. I can't imagine her checking out a kid for even the most minor of injuries and not notifying the parents afterward.
  12. I second the goodreads app. It's great for tagging want-to-read books from the library too. I have a special "library book" shelf just for those.
  13. I was in the middle of working my way through Law & Order SVU. Only managed to make it halfway through season 12 before 13-16 were removed. I did know it was coming, but there was no way I could watch that many episodes in time. :glare:
  14. According to DH, asking him to do something he doesn't feel inclined to do is being manipulative. Telling him to do it is being demanding and rude.
  15. We're doing Brit Lit this year in 11th. My plan (for now anyway) is to send DS to CC to take Eng Comp I as a DE course.
  16. Have family flying in to town for vacation this week and I know they'll end up at my house at some point. - Clean bathroom - Clean living room - Go grocery shopping - Sweep and swiffer floors - Tackle Mt Laundmore - Return overdue library books - Make coconut tortillas and GF cupcake bites
  17. I have the super power to identify and pick up socks from the floor and put them in the laundry basket. Apparently the males in my household do not have this super power as they never know where their socks are. I also have the super power to look in the fridge and know when something is spoiled and needs to be thrown away.
  18. I wouldn't call it punishment for a bad grade, but DS has the option to correct/rewrite and resubmit within 48 hours for half-point credit any assignment that is a 79 © or below. If he doesn't submit it within the 48 hours the original grade stands. Yes, it does mean he has some very low grades that drag his overall average down and he has to work that much harder to pull it back up. I consider that the natural consequences of his choice. If I know he understands the work and is falling behind or simply rushing through his work making careless mistakes, it's often a time management issue that needs to be addressed through more parental involvement to ensure he's doing school work and not spending all his time gaming.
  19. I would definitely not stress about the transcript at this point in time. Do the work at the level she's capable of doing and keep track of what she's doing. I don't see how it would differ in the end from a public school student that had IEPs all his or her school career. What does your CC require for admission? Ours wants a transcript even for DE students, but enrolls predominately on standardized test scores - either SAT/ACT, state testing required in high school, or the CC's testing. Our plan is to enroll DS at a CC next year for a couple DE credits. He won't have a typical transcript compared to his public school peers but we're okay with that. I know CC will help a little by showing he can do college level work and then hopefully in the fall of 2016 he'll enroll in the Bible college he wants to attend.
  20. I didn't know we could join groups in Ravalry. I crochet, but often wonder if I should learn to knit too. Most of the patterns I like seem to be knitted rather than crocheted.
  21. I wore leggings and a knee length dress with ballet flats to work yesterday. I'll switch to boots once the temps drop into the low 70s. If you like it, go for it!
  22. I think 6-7 credits per year is more common for high school, especially a college bound student. Next year seems very AP heavy. Maybe limit it to 1 or 2 AP classes and the rest honor level?
  23. I don't care for it, but I don't care for unusual names. It's bad enough having a common name with an unusual spelling.
  24. Will y'all please stop arguing about holistic vs pharmacological medical treatments? That has nothing whatsoever to do with this thread. The OP specifically stated she wasn't looking to replace her medicine cabinet with EOs but wanted stuff that would make her house smell nice without harsh chemicals. And as for whomever posted above about the FDA's warning letter to YLEO, they also sent the same warning letter to Diamond Nuts b/c of their statements that walnuts contain heart-healthy Omega-3s, which *has been* scientifically proven. So everyone everywhere needs to take anything the FDA says with a grain of salt. To the OP, it seems like Eden's Garden has the best prices for oils, but fewer blends. Native American Nutritionals seems to have decent prices and a much larger variety of EOs, both single and blends. I'm going to order their Attention Assist and see if it'll help my ADD at all. Of course, if you're friends are all wanting to try DoTerra then give it a shot by hosting a party to get some free oils. I have a dear friend that sells YLEO but that doesn't mean I'm forced to buy from her if I find a better price elsewhere.
