  1. https://www.freedieting.com/6-week-body-makeover The system is based on eating 5x a day per your body type and exercising 2x per week. My sisters-in-law told me about it and both said it worked well for them years ago. They are hoping to begin it again. The Google and Amazon reviews look promising.
  2. Has anyone heard of this or tried it? Results?
  3. I just mentioned this in another thread, but what about a planner? Amazon has some really neat ones. You could add some planner pens and stay under your limit.
  4. A nice planner and planner pens. Amazon has some nice ones.
  5. Thank you for the break down. You make it sound so doable! I'm happy to hear your party went so well!
  6. Great idea about the name tags! I am afraid that it may be hard to host in character, even though the game we purchased and the Amazon reviews say it is easy to do so. The three youngest that are playing have all played one before; it is just us old folks that are new to the game but I am hoping it is fool proof as it is heavily scripted.
  7. This is exactly what I was hoping for! Thank you!! We haven't decided the courses yet. There is a wonderful local Mediterranean place nearby that caters, so we may go that route. Dh thinks we should do food that fits the theme better since the party is set on the Orient Express. What do you suggest?
  8. Ahh! You are scaring me. Fortunately it is just our immediate family, dd's boyfriend, my parents and a couple that are close friends of ours so everyone knows everyone and regularly spends New Years Eve together. There may be a kid or two that live up to their parts, but those children would anyway and everyone knows them well. No opera singers in the list of players, thankfully! That would give me a headache, too!!
  9. ...and would love ideas for when to serve food and how to make the evening flow in general. We are doing this https://www.murdermysterystore.co.uk/product.asp?item=506 specific party. I've never hosted or attended a murder mystery party. The party has three acts with an introduction preceding the acts. It also has a question "menu" that is required for players to hear the answers to, but can be done by mingling. If it matters, it will be a mixed group of children and adults with no alcohol on New Year's Eve.
  10. I have known several people who have had it done, including the eye doctor I see regularly. Only one of them mentioned issues after the fact, but they were told it was normal and would correct itself in a few weeks. My eye doc again wears glasses. When I questioned him about it he said that as you age and your eyesight changes and sometimes Lasik needs to be repeated. He loved not wearing glasses for several years, but may not repeat the surgery. I would love Lasik, but might not be a candidate with my extreme astigmatism. I also would refuse to do both eyes at the same time. I've heard that most Lasik facilities and doctors require you to both eyes at the same time, so I will be wearing glasses and contacts.
  11. I would love to get multiple Alexa devices and use them as an intercom system. I would also love the option of calling my children from my cell phone through the Alexa when I am not home. I do. not. want to download my entire contact list. Is there any way to call and intercom without the device having my entire contact list?
  12. We were just gifted a bunch of PS3 games and accessories. I am considering purchasing a PS3 for Christmas for my children. Do I need to connect the PS3 to the internet for it to function or can we just use the games and accessories?
  13. It runs in my family. Because women of childbearing age have a menstrual cycle they aren't diagnosed as quickly or have as many medical problems. The right kind of genetic test can rule you out or in. Unfortunately, a lot of doctors aren't aware of hemochromatosis and it can register as anemic on standard tests. It is very simple to treat. Give blood regularly or have dialysis. Monitoring your diet and getting your iron levels tested every so often while watching for symptoms helps. Things that are good for others like cooking on a cast iron skillet would be a bad idea for someone with hemochromatosis.
  14. We've tried to limit activities to the fewest days a week possible. Several years it was every day of the week and other years it was nothing other than doctor's appointments and church services.
  15. Mini cereal boxes, snacks and junk food they don't normally get, travel size toiletries, tool sets, low $ gift cards, socks, joke books, miniature gifts like tiny Lincoln logs or tiny etch-a-sketch, extra cell phone charger, cell phone or ear bud holders, chocolate, candy, fun socks
  16. We've done that! It was years ago and I thought Dh was crazy when he ordered it. Metal porch furniture (with free shipping!), cat litter and box (Kitty Poo Club), and all Christmas presents this year.
  17. Good afternoon, boardies! For anyone interested I wanted to update you with what we decided to purchase. For 19 year old dd we chose Circe, Till We Have Faces by C.S. Lewis, and the first of the Lady Sherlock series, A Study in Scarlet Women. For the 22 year old we chose Midwives by Christ Bohjalian, The Daily Connoisseur's book At Home with Madame Chic, and Snow Flower and the Secret Fan. DD22 is a trained Doula and she introduced me to the Daily Connoisseur's blog and books, but I know she hasn't read this one. Thank you to everyone who made suggestions. I know I will read quite a few of the suggested titles and will have several recommendations to my daughters when they finish their books.

  19. Thank you for the suggestions. There are a lot of books I hadn't heard of and may or may not of added to my own reading list. I agree about adult novels. It feels wrong to type! Thank you for the Lewis suggestion. It will be perfect! I know just the perfect person to gift Great Alone! I appreciate the spoiler.
