At 4 am this morning, I was awaken by a knock on my bedroom door. My teen son tells me that there is water downstairs. When dh went downstairs, he found the entire floor flooded with about 2-3 inches of water. All of the downstairs. We spent a good hour sweeping, mopping, and soaking every blasted towel we owned cleaning it up. Do you remember my thread a few weeks ago about water in our vent, that turned out to be a rock puncturing a pipe under our slab? Of course, these two things are unrelated, but I am so over it all! Over it!! Not to mention needing to call the plumber during the Coronavirus pandemic quarantine. Thankfully, he's a friend of ours and is very cautious about social distancing. I guess we will be calling him again today to fix said water problem. *sigh* **********************Update*************************** We only have significant water damage to a handful of library books along with some puzzles and curricula I had planned to donate. Hopefully the library will be understanding. We have fans everywhere and the plumber will be here this afternoon. There is water under our flooring at the seams. That will dry quickly, right? I still need to move the fridge and other large appliances. The treadmill was on a mat and was the farthest away from the water source so it didn't get wet. We had budgeted and just purchased it, so I am thrilled it is safe!

Are there not many cases there? Have they stopped travel? -

Yes! A thousand times yes. I love them, but I'm ready to visit a park or zoo or something and get out the blasted energy!! -
Yes, our family is taking the quarantine seriously. I have just reached my quarantine limit. That is all.

Is it possible to hand sew a CDC compliant surgical mask?

Where would one find inserts? We have several bandanas we would like to use for our own personal use. The fabric is thin cotton. -

Excellent pattern! Dh and I found a different one that had many more steps. -
Are you keeping distance between people in your home?
Excelsior! Academy replied to klmama's topic in The Chat Board
No. We are living life as usual whilst inside our house. We are hyper vigilant about hand washing normally. In the couple of instances when one has needed to go out we've washed immediately upon returning and wet wiped any surfaces that were touched like cell phones, steering wheels, etc. -
Anyone want to discuss the closed schools' school work?
Excelsior! Academy replied to SKL's topic in The Chat Board
I agree. I remember being expected to write to 100 in kindy. I attended in late 70's/early 80's. Both of my college attending dd's are paying their own way, debt free with no loans. One attends a small, private Christian uni. It would be devastating for her, if she had to take the semester as a loss. I am so proud of both of them and they work their patookas off making A's and paying their expenses. -
I understand, but with a large family that's tricky. We can literally fill two grocery carts full on a normal shopping trip. I know I could send multiple vehicles (me, dh, dd, etc.), but that can be a logistical nightmare. It's times like these that I wish I was a bit more conspiracy theorist and kept a quiet, prepper hoard in my non-existent basement.
-
Yes!! What looks like hoarding to some people gets me through a week. We didn't panic purchase, but I'm kinda wishing we had. I think we will be fine on tp and the like, but people need to just calm down and stop over purchasing. One of my dd's works at a pizza place and she said the call in orders were way up. As of now they haven't limited customers, but I assume its coming. Ugh! I understand, but it makes it so hard for us!! I guess I'll send dh to get one set and an adult daughter to get another.

Is this required or suggested? I'm wondering about church services and the like. Most area churches around here are requesting those at risk (elderly, immunocompromised) stay home and are offering streaming services, but are allowing those that choose to venture out. Will churches be required to shutter their doors?

Book a Week 2020 - BW10: 52 Books Bingo - Creative
Excelsior! Academy replied to Robin M's topic in The Chat Board
The one by Madeline Miller. I just quickly scanned the first chapter again. One example is on page 12 where it says, "My sister's perfect mink face. 'That he f**** them of course. That's how he makes new ones. He turns into a bull and sires their calves....' " I didn't see the other ones scanning just now, but I know there were at least one or two more. In all fairness, I just finished The Testaments and there quite a bit of cursing in there. Much more than my liking. I'm just not in the mood for another book with it. It's good to hear that you don't remember them, as that likely means there aren't many more of them throughout the book. -

I shelved Circe. Too many f-bombs in the first chapter. I'm not up for finishing it right now. I finished Modern Etiquette Made Easy by Myka Meier. The book's topics cover much more than table settings and how to hold one's fork. There are chapters ranging from networking to how to converse at an event. It is a short, but easy read while being packed with information. -

The children and I finished Ember Falls. It was a delightful sequel. I highly suggest it as a read-aloud for all ages. 9. Ember Falls by S. D. Smith -

I finished The Testaments by Margaret Atwood. It is one of those either hate it or love it books. The Testaments is a continuation of both the book and the televised series. Read my review here: https://www.goodreads.com/review/list/15922265-edie 6. Black Robe Fever by Gary L. Richardson 7. A Weed in the Church by Scott T. Brown 8. The Testaments by Margaret Atwood *Having trouble with the formatting. Hopefully this will work. -
The display is titled Blind Date with a Book. All of the books are wrapped individually with brown paper and tied with ribbon and on each wrapped book is a typed tag with a brief description of the book's contents. The posted rules say that you must check out the book before opening the wrapping. I want to upload a photo, but alas am too technologically challenged.

Someone from the water mitigation company called a few minutes ago and said they will be here in less than an hour. We've already been approved for hotel and expenses. Because we have a large family (7 kids still at home) we have an extra allowance.

This is in my GoodReads to read cue: Winter: An Anthology for the Changing Seasons Melissa Harrison (Editor) 3.97 · Rating details · 109 ratings · 27 reviews Winter is a withdrawal: quiet and dark and cold. In prose and poetry spanning seven hundred years, Winter delights in the brisk pleasures and enduring beauty of the year's turning. Featuring new writing from Patrick Barkham, Satish Kumar and Anita Sethi, extracts from the work of Robert Macfarlane, James Joyce and Kathleen Jamie, and a range of exciting new voices from across the UK, this invigorating collection evokes the joys and the consolations of this magical time of year.

I'm still currently reading a chapter a week of What is a Family? by Edith Schaeffer for a book club and Ember Falls as our family's afternoon read aloud. I have also started Modern Etiquette Made Easy by Myka Meier and The Testaments by Margaret Atwood. Myka Meier runs The Plaza Hotel's finishing program. 6. Black Robe Fever by Gary L. Richardson A Bear Called Pattington (Not counted toward my book total, but too sweet not to list.) 7. A Weed in the Church by Scott T. Brown
