My forgetfulness is really wreaking havoc on my life right now. I don't know what's wrong with me. Some examples: Last night I drove to the store to buy a 2-liter of Coke (my only vice. Well, that and chocolate :blushing:). I walk in the store, and right inside the door there's a display of Coke 2 liters on the ground, but I decide to go get a cold one. They are out of cold 2-liters, so I look for the 1.5liters. Out of those too. Frustrated at this point (I'm carrying my now 20lb baby around the store and the whole reason I'm there is because I forgot to buy Coke earlier that day while at a different store) I finally pick up a comparatively expensive 1liter. It's only when I'm walking out the door that I remember the 2liters by the entrance! I just came back from Walmart, where I went specifically to get a greeting card and wrapping paper for a friend's wedding reception. Before I left I realized I needed TP, shampoo, and laundry soap. Knowing me, I jotted those three things down on a scrap of paper. As I pulled into our driveway I realized--you guessed it---I didn't buy the card or wrapping paper! This happens to me several times a day. I need to fetch things for DH (he's chronically ill and sometimes doesn't feel well enough to make it up the stairs). When I go up, I'm invariably accosted by one of the kids for help with schoolwork, a snack, etc. Sometimes I'll forget the thing (or things) I went up for. Sometimes I'll forget to come back down at all! DH gets his feelings hurt by this, but I'm trying to show him that I do this to myself too. What's wrong with me? Is this from having a new baby? Because I don't remember being like this with the first three. Maybe I'm just getting older (I'm 38). This is going to sound like a joke, but I bought some ginkgo biloba three weeks ago, but I keep forgetting to take it!

Reflections....18 years ago today.....
funschooler5 replied to Leanna Tomlinson's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Thanks so much for posting this! :001_wub: Sometimes I look at my almost 15-yr-old and my 4 month old baby and get a combination of weepy/nostalgic and overwhelmed. It makes me sad to think how fast the years have gone by with my oldest two, but also excited to do it all again with the younger ones. This year has really brought out the emotions in me, because of the new baby and the fact that oldest DD is a 9th grader...so now I have a high schooler, middle schooler, grade schooler, and baby. :svengo: -
What movies do you love...
funschooler5 replied to Mrs Mungo's topic in General Education Discussion Board
:iagree::iagree::iagree: with all of that, including Pulp Fiction (though my older two kids have already watched O Brother, Big Lebowski, and Raising Arizona). I keep wanting to watch Fargo with them, but DD14 is squeamish about blood. Funny this thread came up, because this summer I've been watching a lot of older movies with the kids this summer. They both liked the Breakfast Club, but DD didn't like Pretty in Pink very much (and upon re-watching I see her point...Duckie is the only likeable character). I do like James Spader in that though...he plays a good a**h*le. I still remember my mom letting me watch Beverly Hills Cop when I was about 11. She thought it was hilarious, so she watched it with me. I thought that was so cool. (Yes, my kids and I watched that one too.) I don't mind letting them see a bit of raunchy humor in a quality movie.:tongue_smilie: The next one on my list is Stand By Me, and they both want to see Alien. -
Maybe you've never been in a position to worry about how you were going to find a doctor, or pay for a medical procedure. I have. Several people on this board have. The OP is obviously distressed enough as it is, and I don't think your words are helping the matter. OP, first of all congratulations! I was in a similar position when I got pregnant last year, while we were uninsured. It such a stressful situation, and I'm sorry you have to go through it. :grouphug: DH was temporarily employed at the time and we were unable to make even monthly payments. I was lucky enough to find a midwife who would see me for free until we paid her in full with our tax refund. By the time we found her I was 4 months along. Those 4 months were extremely stressful. We were also going through a medical emergency with DH and trying to figure out how to pay that while paying our other bills. I remember not being able to see a light at the end of the tunnel. The stress was overwhelming at times. Fast forward to now, we have a healthy baby girl, and DH has a new job with insurance. We still have a *ton* of medical debt and DH's chronic illness to deal with, but we are a lot better off than we were last year. I'm just saying all of this to give you some hope. You will get through this. :grouphug:

This is how I sound too. Now, you sound almost British to me. I can hear the difference when you say it. To me, Don and dawn sound the same. Now that I think about it, the only time I say the "aw" sound is when I'm exaggerating it like "Awww, look at that cute puppy!" I'm thinking of other "aw" words like draw and straw, and they rhyme with cot, dog, father, etc. Although I do tend to mash up the sounds in "dr" words (draw, drawer, and drop would be jrah, jrore, and jrop). And here I thought I didn't have an accent because I'm from the Pacific NW.

:iagree::iagree: Couldn't agree with you more! I watched that crap movie several times just because of him (Kevin Costner on the other hand....yeesh, what were they thinking? That guy is a dirt sandwich). Also loved AR in Die Hard. :001_smile: -
Pregnancy vs. Newborn - which is worse?
funschooler5 replied to Canadianmumof5's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I had my last baby in April. I say 3rd trimester of pregnancy is the hardest. I hated those last few weeks, they seemed to take forever. The newborn stage was a lot easier. Now, it's getting a bit more difficult. Three to four months old always seems to be harder for me (with my kids at least). They can't sit up or talk, but they really want to, and they get frustrated very easily. :001_smile: -
So, I have been working this temp job....

That is so great to hear!!! We've been having some rough times for about a year and we're just barely starting to see a light at the end of the tunnel. I love to hear stories like yours, it gives me hope. :001_smile: -
Does your dh help with HS?
funschooler5 replied to Gentlemommy's topic in General Education Discussion Board
We discuss what the kids are studying periodically, but he stays out of the actual teaching. He doesn't really want anything to do with it actually. He's very supportive though, and talks up how well we're doing to our friends and family. That means more to me than anything! -

Ugh...we've been having a heck of a time with this too. DH needs to eat low sodium because of his illness. Besides the basic things (shop for fresh fruits and veggies, stay away from canned and processed foods, watch out for frozen veggies as even some of the plain ones have a salt solution on them), here are some things that worked for us: Pasta and rice have very low sodium. For tomato based sauces I use tomato paste mixed with water instead of tomato sauce. Basil is a great all-around spice. Sometimes I'll cook up some cut up chicken breast in olive oil and garlic, and mix with a penne pasta. Toss the pasta with some extra virgin olive oil and shake on some basil. Sometimes I'll add some sautéed mushrooms (in butter...you can use unsalted but I find we can keep DH's sodium allowance low enough to use regular salted butter). I also serve this with grated parmesian cheese, which isn't too bad sodium-wise. We found a no sodium baking powder at our local health food store, for things like pancakes and waffles, but DH finds that he likes things that are naturally low sodium. Baked goods without sodium taste "off" to him. Our health food store has a bread called manna bread, which is naturally low in sodium. It's very dense and the kind he likes has raisins and dates in it, so it's no good for sandwiches. Salads are good, and he makes his own dressing with extra virgin olive oil and vinegar. Vinegar has a lot of flavor. He also puts Sri Racha on meat and lots of other things...it's 100mg per tsp but a little goes a long way. It's really tough to go shopping for low sodium foods. Salt is in everything! When you start to read labels you'll get a feel for it though.

I wash them all together in hot water. And isn't the kitchen supposed to have more germs than the bathroom? I thought I saw something on TV a long time ago that the kitchen drain is the most germ-laden place in the house.

I'd rather watch volleyball than anything involving horses. Now those seem out of place to me. And I know water polo is a tough sport, but man it is booooring to watch! The women's volleyball outfits...I know they work hard, they are amazing athletes, but I just don't see how the tiny bikini bottoms would help their game. They're always adjusting the darn things, and if they work so well how come a lot of the other teams don't wear them? (Of course USA is dominating, so maybe they *are* the deciding factor. :tongue_smilie:) -
