  1. DS has heard from 4 of his 6 schools, all that are on rolling admissions. The schools he's been accepted to are University of Kentucky, West Virginia University, Murray State U and Jacksonville State U and he's waiting to hear from Ohio State University. He still needs to fill out the application for University of Memphis. The common thread running through these schools is that they each have a rifle team and each has expressed interest in DS joining their team. This entire college recruiting process still seems surreal to me since this wasn't even on our radar 15 months ago. Besides visiting schools, meeting rifle team members and talking with coaches we're hunting scholarship money too, oh, and trying to stay current on school work.
  2. Agree. All it says is that the person signing the transcript is who she says she is. That is it. Silly.
  3. That's pretty true however for a Division 1 school 4 years of English is required. DS took Freshman composition at the CC as his English 11 course. He'd be in a bad way if NCAA cuts that one in half.
  4. Last spring I called the NCAA with this question after reading in their documentation that a 1 semester CC would count as 1/2 a high school credit. NCAA asked me where my DS had taken the class, was it at the high school or on the CC campus? The other question they asked was as to who would be issuing the credit? What NCAA said to me was since DS took the class on the CC campus and the CC issued the credit then 1 semester of a CC would be equal to 1 high school credit. If DS took the course at the high school OR the high school would be issuing the course on their transcript then 1 semester would be equal to 1/2 a high school credit. I do hope that is correct since DS has taken 7 of his Core Courses at the CC and I'm counting each as a 1 high school credit. NCAA is very easy to call and to ask questions so if you learn differently please let us know (although at this point I might not want to know, :cursing:
  5. LOL! I made several posts in that thread too. And like Margaret in CO I have an *Official* embosser with our school name and DOE school number that I put on every transcript that leaves the house. That didn't satisfy this school though. I let the admissions person know our notarized transcript was headed her way and she sent a very nice email back. Notarizing a transcript is silly to me since all it says is that the person signing the transcript identity has been verified. It says nothing about whether the information on the transcript reflects the student's work. And for me it was a huge inconvenience. The transcript had to be mailed twice, I ended up visiting 3 banks before finding one with their notary available and in-house to stamp the paper.
  6. DS received an email from JSU stating that his transcript must be notarized in order to make it official. Have you run into this request from colleges? I haven't and DS already been accepted at 2 other colleges and his older brother was accepted to 9 colleges. Guess there is a first for everything. I visited my bank and they happily notarized the transcript and it's been sent. Carole
  7. YEA!!!! :hurray: :hurray: :hurray: An update for us ..... DS has 3 official visits scheduled and 1 school asked if an official visit was necessary or if DS had visited with the school and team enough. The coach said he would be making an offer without an official visit so DS opted out of that visit. It is going to be a very busy fall but at least DS has all his college applications in. Now for him to do exceptionally well on the ACT and SAT tests so that merit aid $$$ come in.
  8. I spoke to Ryan at the NCAA about the *Missing Core Course Worksheets* box being checked off however the core courses are not listed under *Academic Status.* As we thought the first box is checked off when they are received (not reviewed as the box states) and placed into DS file. The courses will be reviewed in October or November. Carole
  9. For us the Homeschool Transcript Needed box is checked as is the CC transcript box, the Final transcript is not checked off but he still has a year to go. I'll let you know what they say when I call. Won't be today since I have a birthday cake to bake. Carole
  10. This is a follow-up to the thread http://forums.welltrainedmind.com/topic/482794-heard-from-the-ncaa/ After receiving the email from the NCAA stating that the Core Course Worksheets pdfs were all blank I sent the package snail-mail. Today in checking DS *My Planner* at the NCAA Eligibility Center I found the *Missing Core-Course Worksheets* box had been checked off. :hurray: The disclosure box states I'm guessing that since his *My Planner Missing Core-Course Worksheets* box has been checked off that they have reviewed the CC worksheets, however under Academic Status DS is still identified as *Decision not yet available* Does anyone know if they might change this is a *Preliminary Certified*? Also in the Academic Status pop-up window the Core Courses section still states *There are no courses to display for this section.* Either they checked the first box because the worksheets have been received rather than reviewed, or the worksheets really have been reviewed and the *Core Course* list just hasn't been updated yet. At least I know that they finally have our Core Course Worksheets.
  11. That's me too!!! I sent all of DS' core course worksheets in--all15 of them, including the ones for his senior year classes. I figure that iffffff we get reviewed this fall I will hopefully have a really good idea if DS has met the 16 core course requirement. He'll also have 7 classes from the CC that 'should' satisfy NCAA course course requirements. I would *think* that NCAA would review these at the same time as their review of the course course worksheets, but maybe that is asking too much. Hyperventilating is a quite common activity for me these days too.
  12. In case you haven't been following the NCAA thread my DS is a rising senior and a competitive rifle shooter. He's happily being recruited by several colleges to be on their rifle teams, all are Division 1 schools. All are miles and miles away from home. Last night he received his second invitation for an 'Official' visit and is making plans to visit this school. We both visited the school this past spring and met with the coach, toured the facilities and questions answered. Of course as time has past I have more questions. DS would like to go on this official visit alone. The agenda is for him to spend time with the players (he knows most of them from matches and camps), attend class, watch a practice, go to a sporting event (most likely a football game) and get a feel for the team and the town. I have those parent questions that have come up from our last meeting with the coach. Would you go along? I wouldn't go to class and ds would be wtih the players without mom but I would like to chat with the coach again. Thoughts? Carole
  13. My understanding is that when a college places a student--a rising senior-- on their 'institutional request list' the NCAA then, and only then, will look at the student's academics and provide a preliminary certification. I just checked the NCAA and my son's CCW have not been looked at. I was verbally told by the NCAA to expect this review to occur in the late fall because right now they are working through the high school graduates. NCAA also said that some kids do not receive their final NCAA approval until well into their first college term.
  14. Our Core Course Worksheets are still not showing up on NCAA site however both my transcript and the one from the CC are showing up as received. I received that same message from the NCAA--they won't look at CCW until the fall, late fall. One thing about rifle, there aren't a lot of rifle shooters out there but then there aren't that many schools with a rifle team either. When we went to our first 'college' night at Camp Perry last year the message was, if you want to be on a Div 1 rifle team in college you can be on one, just don't expect any funding. DS has been the top or second to the top Junior shooter at several recent National matches so that has attracted the attention of the coaches. (Navy and Air Force both called however DS has a medical condition that prevents him from serving  We visited several schools this past winter and spring, had a visit with the coach on each campus (permitted in the Jr year by NCAA rules), sent the coaches match scores and updated the coach via email regarding match shooting results. I'm sure this helped to keep DS name in front of the coach, letting him know that DS was looking at 'his' school. Unfortunately by NCAA rules there is not a lot of athletic scholarship money available but DS really wants to be on a rifle team in college. Good luck to your son too (and you). It's early August so there's lots of time and the school year hasn't begun yet.
  15. DS is a rising senior and a competitive rifle shooter. I received an email from the NCAA that all my core course worksheets sent to them this past spring appear blank in their browser. So, this is a word of caution to all --- do not use their fillable pdf forms. I used a product called Bluebeam PDF Revu, SW I use all the time to write on my AP Stat students pdfs, and wrote on the NCAA forms. When I look at these forms on my pc the information is there, but not for them. All of DS CCW are in snail mail to the NCAA. NCAA did say that we could make our own form provided the form retains the same structure and requires the same information as their form. This also must mean that one of the colleges we visited this spring has followed through on our request and placed DS on the institutional request list. DS has an official visit lined up and we're waiting for possible visit dates from another college. And one college we visited last month on an unofficial visit asked DS if an official visit was necessary or could they just proceed with making an offer. :hurray: Exciting times. Carole
  16. Great detective work! Great to know that PA HS'ers is in there. Are you able to find Potter School? I haven't had any success locating them in the database. DS took 2 French classes from them---worked a lot----and I'd really like to find them in the database. Thanks for your help.
  17. Be careful with using their *fillable* forms and filling them with information. I filled in several with information, printed them using a pseudo-print sw that actually writes it as a pdf and then found that on my pc the information I had painstacking filled in did not appear. On my son's pc the form was all nicely completed. Really weird. I spoke to Margaret at NCAA about the issue and she said they are having all sorts of issues with the fillable forms. She advised that we make our own form in WORD or some other program and use it, making sure that all the information pieces are there. I submitted 15 CCW to NCAA last week, all with typed information. DS just completed 4 courses at the CC, 3 should count as Core Courses, so the transcript from there is headed to NCAA too.
  18. We had a graduation party for our ds, thought we would hold it outside in our yard with volleyball, softball,..... The day was hot, over 100, and humid, oh my, we needed a pool, so everyone was inside the house. It worked out well and we enjoyed seeing everyone but it sure wasn't the setting I had planned. For the invitation I wrote a one page letter detailing DS accomplishments over the previous 12 years. It was a nice way for us to highlight everything he had done. After seeing a slide show at a hs graduation I put one together however, DS insisted that I not show it. A girl might view one differently. I also declined any offers of food since I wanted folks to just come and enjoy the day with us. I had been to a few hs graduation parties where it was potluck and cookies and cakes were plentiful and that wasn't what I was looking for. Enjoy the day!
  19. I have the CC courses noted on his transcript just as you did for your dd -- different typeface and an **, and then a comment in the Notes section. Oh my, no, I'm not adjusting his CC letter grades to fit my grading scale. We are stopping into the CC tomorrow to request they send ds' transcript to the NCAA. I'll ask whether their grading scale will appear on their transcript.
  20. I have a student in Yemen and she used 995599 as her code for *Outside the US*. That code corresponds to the one on this list: http://www.collegeboard.com/student/testing/psat/reg/homeschool/state-codes.html [i teach AP Statistics with PA HSers]
  21. I understand what you are both saying, then why have a grading scale on the transcript in the first place? I would leave it off but colleges and NCAA require a grading scale on the transcript.
  22. For high school I use the grading scale of > 90 is an A, > 80 is a B,.... This year my ds took classes at the community college which uses the grading scale of >92 is an A, >85 is a B,.... Would you put two grading scale legends on his transcript? (Yes, he got a B which on my grading scale would have been an A.)
