  1. Are there actual legitimate online programs for adults who want to finish a degree, but don't want to report to a live classroom?

  3. I just finished watching this on Friday night. I still cried a few times on Saturday. I am not sure I am ready to watch another show. I think this is the best writing I have ever seen. The emotional levels and the progression of Walt's demise - so amazing. I sort of knew Walt would save Jesse and I love how their relationship was always played. Jesse never stopped calling him Mr. White and it was clear to me that Walt sort of viewed him as a son. It was painful to watch, but I love that he threw himself on Jesse to save him. Also, the song playing as Walt died was a perfect choice. I read Saul's show will be a prequel and there is talk of Jesse making a few appearances.
  4. I find all the levels to be worthy and say start it whenever you want. TOG doesn't necessarily cover "Language Arts" - just literature and writing. Some of the writing assignments involve grammar and some of the literature assignments involve grammar, but it does not thoroughly cover grammar. It doesn't include spelling either. I use Rod and Staff for English and Spelling, but I use the TOG Writing Aids for writing and the Literature SAP's for the assigned literature selections.
  5. No offense taken, I was just pointing out it was definitely more than what you mentioned. Government is for the Rhetoric level anyway. :tongue_smilie:
  6. It is pricey on the front end, but it is worth it to me. I will be using it all the way through high school. I use our library or buy used books at reasonable prices so it isn't too expensive in the end. As for it "only" covering history, literature and writing - it is more than that. It also covers government, philosophy, fine arts, geography and worldview. 12 years of schooling all those subjects, if you were to start at LG. For history, the books are great, but it is also simple to substitute books because of the themed nature of each week. I love that vocabulary, famous people and timeline events are all included as well. It isn't just a word list either, a glossary of simple definitions and descriptions are included. The teacher pages include a wealth of information as well. The geography assignments are very good. The fine arts activities are numerous and include activities for every learning style. The Writing Aids program includes great writing assignments and a comprehensive instruction book on how to teach all the genres and different types of writing for 12 levels. There is nothing "only" about it. It is rich, in depth, thoughtful and high quality. I will admit it isn't for everyone and that it takes considerable effort to get it rolling and find a groove, but it was worth the time investment for me.
  7. We saw it Friday night. It wasn't as good as I hoped it would be and I felt anxious. That said, the main reason I wanted to see it was that it put my small hometown on the map. Sandra Bullock's character was from Lake Zurich, which is where I lived in my youth. It was fun to see it make the big time, even if it was only mentioned by name. Also, I think GC's character should have tried harder too and I was disappointed when it was revealed he didn't actually make it back to her. Also, the barking like a dog bothered me.
  8. I am white and have never used WIC or food stamps. I do however buy 5 gallons of milk a week for my kids who suck it down like it isn't $3.25 a gallon. I get asked by white cashiers about 3-4 times a year if I have WIC. No, I don't. After that the cashier of the moment almost always says something like, "Gee, that is a lot of milk."
  9. I am not saying they shouldn't be replaced, I am saying that everyone there now, with the exception of maybe two people, need to be fired. I understand we need government, but we don't "need" what we currently have.
  10. I prefer the DE because of the updates and the convenience of printing only what I want/need.

  13. Well lucky you. Too bad for everyone else. :/
  14. I love Hook! Loved the Neal and Mulan scene- hilarious. Can't wait for the next episode. I haven't decided if I will watch the spin off yet.
  15. I'd like to know why Congress is "essential." Every last member should be out of a job.

  17. No. When I first pulled my oldest son from his freshman year of high school his one concern was the prom. Fast forward to his senior year, a cute girl that he knew from youth group invited him to the local high school prom. He went. Then he thanked me for homeschooling him and said that prom attendance would not have been worth going to the school. I felt victorious. LOL The same year he also attended a homeschool banquet/dance for seniors and had a much better time there.

  20. Thanks everyone. We live in a small town now, so we know what small town life is generally like. I am surprised this school is his first choice - it is the only one out of state that he is applying to. We are going to plan a visit.
  21. Could you give him a checklist to follow for all of his assignments, until he has it down? For example: -Put your name and date on the paper -Write the subject/assignment -Do the assignment -Bring to mom to check work -File in binder After days or weeks of literally having to check off boxes for all the work he does, it should be cemented in his brain.
  22. My son has University of Wyoming at the top of his college wish list because they have his major and the study abroad country he wants. I was wondering what kind of repuation it has and what kind of place Laramie is. I looked at the Laramie website and they certainly have lots of activities and outdoor opportunities my son would enjoy. I know Wyoming has good gun laws - - and snow, but that is about it! I love the beautiful pictures I have seen of the mountains and have always jokingly said if we left Texas, it would be for Wyoming or Montana. Any body out there who can give me the scoop?
