  1. I have recently brought my 6th grade son home again and realize that he really is lost when it comes to grammar. I mean he really has a basic understanding. I'm looking for suggestions for a curriculum that would teach the fundamentals and teach them well. Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thank you! Ami DS (12) DS (9)
  2. I just came across this! Sorry it's taken me so long to reply. In one day I'll bake 2 loaves of banana bread, 2 batches of sandwich rolls, 2 loves of cornbread, 2 loaves of sandwich bread, and biscuits or doughnuts. All of these freeze great. It makes my life so much easier.
  3. A few of you wanted some of my recipes using Almond Flour. Here is a website I love: http://www.elanaspantry.com/ Cookbooks: The Gluten-Free Almond Flour Cookbook by Elana Amsterdam Everyday Grain-Free Gourmet and Grain-Free Gourmet by Jodi Bager and Jenny Lass Happy Baking!
  4. I used to always pick up "cling placemats" from chick-fil-a to cover the tray table. They then would get new playdough and some new small toy (matchbox car, etc.) Lots of snacks! Fun foods that you don't normally give them. What airline? Some have tv shows inflight which my boys love. Bring your own headsets and many times it's free watching at least tv on Delta is free.
  5. What are you looking for? Bread, muffins, cookies, crackers?
  6. My ds was diagnosed with Crohn's this past July. He's feeling much better and yes we've changed diet. We are following the SCD (specific carbohydrate diet) and he looks and feels great. I recommend Breaking the Vicious Cycle by Elaine Gottschall. Websites for recipes and tips: http://scdrecipe.com/home/ http://pecanbread.com/ http://www.nomorecrohns.com/ My ds can't handle lactose and most with Crohn's can't. Hard cheeses are acceptable and so is SCD homemade yogurt. I bake with almond flour (buy in bulk at whole foods) and freeze. I have a system that allows me to now bake 1 day for every 3 weeks. PM me if you have any more questions or would like some recipes! I have done lots of research and would love to share if you'd like :D
  7. We have bought/sold in December. I have closed Dec 5 and Dec 15. Most people moving in December want to move over their children's school break. So, typically middle of December giving them over the break to unpack, etc.
  8. Did this group ever get started? We are on the SCD diet here and started 1 month ago. Would love to share ideas.
  9. I was asked to remove my watch and my purse w/phone was kept outside of the room. And, yes the machine is very very loud. My ds was glad to watch a movie. He had to have barium prior to the procedure - that was quite a chore and was the hardest part of the entire procedure. Make sure your dd doesn't wear any zippers. We had to exchange jean shorts to very large hospital pants.
  10. I totally understand what you're going through. My ds has was just diagnosed this summer and we are navigating the diet changes. I've read many books and am working on an approach that will work for us. After 2 weeks of not eating and then hospitalized, my ds had a ravenous appetite for about 2 weeks. It's tapered off, but he's still eating well and has gained all the weight he lost. We've cut out dairy, almost all gluten (not totally gluten free yet). Primarly gets fruits and veggies in smoothies since easy on the gut. PM me if you want more tips we're doing. I could go on and on!
  11. I have a friend who is contemplating moving. Here is her question: The best prognosis for a kid with PDD NOS is a lot of individualized therapy. Prognosis is great and PDD can be outgrown by the time a kid is 9 or 10, according to our psychologist. But we are running into insurance problems. Would you move for the sake of your child to a state that requires insurance companies to pay for treatment? ------------------------------------------------------------ What would the Hive do? Does anyone have experience with this?
  12. If your flight is operated by SkyWest, Commair or another charter, you can gate check because the overhead bins are tiny. If your bags don't fit on the Delta plane and you are asked to check it, that bag will cost you money.
  13. More and more airports now have fountains specifically for filling up water bottles. $20/25 seems reasonable. My ds ate well at Seattle Airport (7 hour layover) for around $15.
  14. My friends daughter is moving to a new state (this is her first time on her own - she's 21 yrs old). Just found out the party is tomorrow and need to get her a gift. She likes to cook........that's all I know. Ideas? I'm braindead right now and can't think of anything. I'm counting on getting inspired for all of you :001_smile: Oh, the mom is no help for ideas. I checked with her first and got zip.
  15. ¾ cup soy, almond or coconut 1 ripe banana, peeled and chopped 2 tbsp peanut butter 1 tbsp cocoa powder 2 cups chocolate ice cream (or frozen yogurt)
  16. And, love it. It really does make great smoothies and was a good compromise. I was glad to get the recommendations for the Ninja. With all our medical bills I just don't have the money for a Vita Mix right now. Thanks for all the feedback!
  17. I have a regular blender, but it just doesn't puree foods smooth. I'm looking for a blender to make great smoothies for my ds with crohn's. He is able to drink veggies/fruit better than eating them. Any suggestions? I've seen the Ninja Bullet, Ninja Kitchen System, Vitamix...I'm sure there are others. What do you use and why do you love it! Or why do you not like yours. Thanks!
  18. I'm meeting with the doctor next week and am not changing his diet until then. I have been given lots of suggestions and plan on covering all of them at our appointment.
  19. Thanks for the tip. I am looking for a bread that we can all enjoy. I found a store nearby that sells it which is even better. Have you had to go lactose free?
  20. I am hoping someone can help direct me where to buy grass fed, hormone free beef and chicken in Utah. I can drive to pick it up. I have seen several places on line, but I hate to buy a large order and not like the product. I realize it all depends on where they graze and what they are eating. Suggestions? Thanks!
  21. Friend of mine gave me a well build hide-a-bed several years ago. Sat great, but boy was it ugly. Do you sew at all? I picked out fabric from JoAnn's (the section where the samples are all on hangers an they order for you) and using my 50% coupon got it for $100. I practiced a pattern for the cushions using muslin. Anyway, I fitted each cushion and used zippers (you could slip stitch shut also). I fitted the arms and sides - slipped on and then stapled around the bottom. I fitted the back and stapled across the top and bottom. It ended up looking great. Get compliments all the time :D First sewing project I'd ever done and I was 5 months pregnant. Good luck!
  22. The doctors are guessing he's had Crohn's for up to 9 months. The "symptoms" were very spotty and only 1 at a time. He would complain of stomach ache (squeezing of the stomach), occasional headache and towards the end loss of appetite (occured 3 weeks before diagnosis).
  23. I posted a week or so ago that my DS(11) was very small for his age and that after the initial blood test things looked fine. Well, about 4 days after that he started having diarreah (7-10 times a day) and it wasn't letting up - lost 6 pounds. So, back to the doctor and new blood tests where done. Long story short since I last posted he's been scoped, hospitalized and now home. He has Crohn's :001_unsure: Now trying to process everything. The good news is we've found a doctor who specializes in pediatric Crohn's and DS has gained back 2 pounds. Prayers would be greatly appreciated.
  24. What days you travel can really do make a difference. Tuesdays and Saturdays are lower volume and frequently can be lower fares. Depending on where you live, certain airlines will have better deals to particular destinations and will match or undercut each other. Sometimes when you live in a hub city, that can cause airfare to be higher. I check Expedia, Orbitz and the airlines.
  25. Friday afternoon the doctor called and his blood work looks normal. We need to go back in a month and recheck iron levels. Not overally concerned about his weight, but will discuss in a month. Thank you to all how encouraged me! I feel so much better knowing he's healthy. Small is fine!
