  1. Good day, I was wondering if anyone has a list of books that they used for supplementing Streams of Civilization V. 1. It would be nice if these books are available in the public domain. Please advise. Thanks! Blessings, Viorica
  2. Thanks for checking Cat. I do appreciate it. Are you familiar with Streams of Civilization? What do you think of this book (it's a two volume course)?
  3. Thank you all. It looks like I need to figure out which history book to use as my spine if I plan on using these videos.
  4. Hi, I wanted to find out if anyone used this world history curriculum for their child. Did you supplement with any other books, etc.? I would appreciate any feedback/advice that anyone can provide regarding using this as a high school world history course. Blessings, Viorica
  5. Does anyone have the course outline for this? I contacted the company and they informed me they no longer have the course outline available to be sold separately. I appreciate any assistance anyone can give me on this. Thanks. Blessings,
  6. I'm hoping someone can please help me. I purchased a used Saxon Math 65 Solutions and Test Manual 3rd edition. The individual I purchased the book from indicated that there aren't any missing pages. Unfortunately, when I received the book, I noticed that a few test pages were torn out. Will someone take pity on me and scan and email me the first 3 tests of the Saxon 65 third edition? I will be truly grateful. Thanks!

  8. It's my understanding that if one uses Saxon Math, ALL problems should be completed all the time. I personally spoke to Art Reed (a retired teacher that taught Saxon Math for 12 years), he indicated that many people end up being unsuccessful due to problems being skipped. Although the problems may seem to be repetitive, he indicated that by just doing evens or odds your child will miss out on key concepts and by the time you figure that out, you will be far behind. If your goal is mastery and you want your child to retain what they have learned, do NOT skip and/or choose which problems will be completed. I too, follow his schedule for Advanced Math where 1/2 the problems are done one day and the other 1/2 are completed the next day. However, please note that all the problems for that particular lesson are completed. For more information regarding how to use Saxon Math, etc., please refer to Art Reeds web-site at the following link: http://www.homeschoolwithsaxon.com/ Click on the newsletter link. You will find a wealth of information. Blessings, Viorica
  9. CLEP exams are a nice and inexpensive way to obtain college credit. However, keep in mind that not all schools accept these exams as credit. An excellent web-site to help you get started in regards to the CLEP exams is as follows: http://clepprep.tripod.com/cleplessonplans/ Additionally, they actually have a yahoo group dedicated to CLEP exams (parents providing advice/feedback, etc.). The group is called: Clep for Homeschool Blessings, Viorica
  10. Yes, I have and I absolutely love it. It is an excellent program that teaches your child how to write, read, and spell all at the same time. It gives the child a very strong foundation in phonics and the program is broken down for the parent so that you can hit the ground running. There is no guess work. I can't say enough good things about it. Viorica
  11. I personally have purchased Sound Beginnings and I love it. It really does an excellent job of giving your child a strong foundation in phonics and teaching them to write, read, and spell at the same time. It truly is a brilliant program that breaks everything down for the parent so that you can hit the ground running. Viorica
  12. In case someone is still interested in this, I spoke to Art Reed (who is a retired public school teacher that taught Saxon Math for 12 years). He informed me that Advanced Math shouldn't be completed in 1 year. It's better if it gets completed in 2 years. He suggested the following: Year 1-Complete lessons 1-90 in one year by only doing half the problems each day (i.e. day 1-problems 1-15 and day 2-problems 16-30). Every lesson and every problem MUST BE completed (do NOT skip anything) On the transcript this class can be named-Geometry/Advanced Algebra Year 2-Go back to lesson 60 through the end of the book (lesson 125). Again, follow the same pattern of completing half the lessons per day (as mentioned in the above bullet for year 1). You should have approximately 9 weeks of school left. Complete Lessons 1-25 of Saxon Calculus-2nd edition (it will take your child through functions & derivatives). On the transcript this class can be named-Pre-Calculus For more information, Art Reed's web-site is as follows: http://www.homeschoolwithsaxon.com/ I hope this helps. Viorica
  13. I've used Math Mammoth for the lower levels and then proceeded to Saxon Math. Math Mammoth is good, however, the drawback is that it doesn't give a lot of direction and enough practice (in my opinion). My kids are thriving and retaining a lot of the concepts due to the Saxon spiral approach. Thus, for grades 1-3 I use Math Mammoth, and from 4th grade I start Saxon 5/4. One daughter just completed Saxon Math 8/7 and told me it was easier for her than the Math Mammoth 6th grade that she did in the previous year. The most critical thing one must do to ensure success when using the Saxon curriculum is to NOT allow your child to skip over any lessons and/or problems. Viorica
