  1. I take my tree down right away and put the lights in the window. I sit with coffee in the morning and with tea at night and have the lights on. It makes me happy 😊
  2. I have a friend from a very hot hot summer state that talked about this one year. She said mid summer is so hard for her. She goes to the lowest level of her house, shuts some heavy drapes over the windows and watches Christmas movies. Kelly
  3. I keep my Christmas lights up until it has been 70 degrees for 3 consecutive days. That usually means until sometime in April. The lights help me get through winter. Kelly
  4. Yes, every winter I struggle. It doesn't help when people say, "But, it hasn't been a bad winter. We've hardly had snow." Yep, I get that, but it is more about the cold and dark. I need sunlight! It was so dreary today, like most winter days. Kelly
  5. I live in Story County!!! As bad as it was today I made it to the mailbox and back without a rope 😁 I just want the wind to stop! Kelly
  6. One joke wouldn't make me stop listening to a podcast. I feel like we are all guilty of slipping up and saying something that would offend someone. If it were constant then yes, but one podcast... Kelly
  7. Here are my 2 cents. If he knows when to use it that is good. I grew up with a dad who would use it to be mean and then say "I'm just joking". I do have some of that sarcastic humor in me, but I try to be careful with it. Just because someone doesn't get it in the moment doesn't mean that they won't in an hour or in 5 years. It can still affect someone later. And, make sure he can take it also. I know you said he uses it when he feels people need to be knocked down a few pegs, but can he handle being knocked down a few pegs? My dad would get super nasty with people because he couldn't take "a joke". Sarcasm is awesome when used carefully. Kelly
  8. Ummm, I do find some men's chests sexy and yes, arousing, including their nipples. This is another dangerous idea people have about women. As a teen I often thought there was something wrong with me because I thought about sex a lot. A LOT. I was being taught that girls didn't think that way like the boys did. I knew that I must have been some sort of mutant because I was having sexual thoughts through out the day. Still do, but now I know that I am not weird (ok, well I am weird but not because of thinking about sex. I'm just weird) 🙂
  9. In this situation I would have done the grandsons' clothing also. And, if I had been there for a week I would have done my own clothing.
  10. When my kids were younger we talked about be respectful when dressing which just meant dressing for the situation. Also, to understand their motivation for how they were dressing. I wanted my kids to dress for themselves, what made them feel good. I understand dressing to impress a date or friends, but to not always dress to please other people. For those with boys, don't think they aren't dressing for looks and comments also. My son wanted me to buy his shirts smaller than he wore so his pecs were shown to great advantage 😂 I told him he was going to make all those girls stumble. WWJD? Now for my PSA for people who said they are teaching their children to dress in a way that doesn't invite unwanted looks, creeps, words. This is NOT possible. Please, please do not put this on your daughters. As a teen I wore long sleeve shirts, buttoned to the top, baggy jeans, long skirts, turtlenecks, tights under shorter skirts (knee length)...think late 80s, early 90s style. I still got nasty comments. I will not say them here because they were vulgar. These were often said at school or at work. You cannot truly control the thoughts of others, and you cannot control what someone finds attractive or stimulating. Kelly
  11. This had been happening around here too. I've heard several people say their kids were sick, felt better, and then sick again. All it all it has taken about 2 weeks. And, it is mostly sore throat, phlgemy cough, and drippy nose. I just got over the ick, but mine was only 2 days which is really short for me. We'll see if I get that second wave.
  12. Yes! It used to drive my friends and family nuts when I was a teen. Now I just put in my Bluetooth earbuds and listen in private over and over 😁
  13. I watched about 5 minutes of their show while channel surfing. They deserved those sentences just for the crap they put on TV. Kelly
  14. These aren't boots, but I highly recommend them for snow and ice. They are waterproof and warm. I just wore them for my walk to the gym this morning. When I went out a second time in just my regular tennis shoes I realized how warm these hiking shoes were.
  15. I listened to the first episode and really enjoyed it. I am also a fan of Maintenance Phase. I have listened to a few "You're Wrong About" episodes also. Kelly
  16. This is the first year it has happened to me. I'm hoping after a hard freeze it will stop. I'm assuming it is something in the air this year. Kelly
  17. No insight or advice from me, but I have had the same thing happening for the last month and it is driving me crazy. Every night I get hives somewhere on my body that last for about 20-30 minutes. I have no idea why 🤷 It is so freaking itchy! Kelly
  18. Enjoyed the book and the movie. I can't say I like the ending, but it really is the only one that makes sense. Re: Brad Pitt, Jennifer Aniston and Angelina Jolie. I read an interview with Pitt published while he was married to Aniston that foreshadowed his divorce. I don't remember the question but part of his answer was about being married until it wasn't fun anymore. I remember telling my husband that their marriage was not going to last with that attitude.
  19. Planter Fasciitis and tendonitis in my Achilles. I have only been wearing my tennis shoes for the last 4 or 5 months which helps as long as I wear them. Other shoes are no help. Kelly
  20. I need shoes that will support my feet like my tennis shoes, but are more loafer-ish. I bought a couple of Clarks loafer which are super cute but my ankles and feet hurt after wearing them. I even put in my usual insoles. Kelly
  21. I've never been put under for root canals either. Each time I went to the Endodontist. Has he gotten any pain pills from his doctor? I had to get pills so I could rest. The pain was so intense. The root canal was a piece of cake after the pain of the bad tooth. I feel his pain! Kelly
  22. When I read and re-read this story there are times I have no words, times I just can't think of enough words, and times I have a lot of words (most of them bad words). These stories contain rape, sexual trafficking of a teen, and a broken justice system. https://www.npr.org/2022/09/14/1122904939/iowa-teenager-pieper-lewis-killed-accused-rapist-ordered-pay-150000 https://www.cbsnews.com/news/pieper-lewis-gofundme-pay-restitution-for-killing-her-alleged-rapist/ Kelly
  23. I should probably add pie as another thing along with poptarts that I won't make anymore. I love pie, but not making pie crust.
  24. I hate this one. People say it all the time to me since my youngest is graduating from high school this year. I reply, "Yep, and I wouldn't want to repeat any of it. I love my kids, but I also love my quiet house". Kelly
  25. Faith Over Fear - So many people at church wore these shirts during Covid, yet these are the same people who think every Muslim they see is going to kill them on the spot. Teachers aren't in it for the money, but the lives they change (or some variation of this 🐂 💩) I always feel like this perpetuates the idea that teachers shouldn't be paid well. God gives kids with *insert disability* to parents he knows can handle the stress or who are the strongest (the wording is probably off, you get the meaning) I hate all inspirational sayings. I much prefer a good sarcastic remark... Kelly
