  1. While I think having a conversation with dad is a good idea. I am guessing she doesn’t really know what thinning and layering are. Maybe take the time to explain it to her. Or have the stylist do it.
  2. Neuropsychologist don’t always push medication. In fact, my son’s doesn’t prescribe at all. If she or the patient feels there is a need to, she will refer patients to another doctor. It is just their offic policy to get tor the root of the problem without medication at all. I chose them not because I was against medication if needed, but because I wanted answers. I felt like they would provide them. They did!
  3. I have no idea if we qualify. Waiting (either way) is holding us up for getting insurance. We are foster parents, so some of our kids have it. We are rural. Our county has one person. I have spent many hours chasing her down for foster kids, and she won't do anything quickly for me! I am not her favorite person anymore because I have done that numerous times. Haha. So I had dh call her. She is out of the office today. One of our main issues is our income fluctuates. I am self employed and dh is commissioned. While we might qualify in Jan - March, we won't April to Sept. It is so frustrating!
  4. I have looked but I can't find it. I have called, but they can't tell me unless I apply. We keep being denied, so I assume for some reason we don't qualify. But I have no idea why we don't, and I have no idea why the Marketplace says we do.
  5. Wondering what other people do...Is the process truly this insane? Or are we doing something wrong? We have had insurance from the marketplace since 2015 because dh's job stopped offering it. Every year, we have had to go through a ridiculous process ending with a medicaid denial. Every year it is different. Every year we get an different story from different people. Each year it has worked out by calling a dozen times to the marketplace until someone could get us coverage. Every year it takes me MONTHS to work it out!! Apparently, in some states denial is quick. The lady I talked to yesterday said she always gets it over the phone immediately. Well not in my state. Last year, my denial took 6 months!! But we had coverage because some wonderful man was able to override it. He said the other person I talked to was wrong. He said with a renewal I shouldn't need another denial. But now the marketplace says my last denial isn't recent enough. Sigh! So I have to get denied again. But my kids can't get insurance until then. Or we pay the $2500/month out of pocket with an $11,000 deductible. Or we go without coverage for the kids and pay a penalty! It is so frustrating! Is there another option? I am wondering if there is something that I am missing. We have twice had a broker try to help. Once it did, and once it didn't. I am beyond frustrated at this point. Medicaid says that they should cover the kids until the process is done. They say nope. Any advice or experience?
  6. We only have 2 options where we live. Kaiser is the cheapest, but has no doctors in our area! The closest is 2 hours away in another state. I find that so frustrating. There isn’t even an hospital close. The other option is $2240 a month!
  7. I had to laugh at this! Because this is exactly what my grandma did. She refused to ever come visit us in CA (my dad was stationed there and stayed for many years) because of earthquakes even though she lived in the Midwest with lots of tornadoes!
  8. In my house, the kid that is coming home today said “you have to let me cook at least a couple meals! I don’t ever get to cook!†We are all a little bit excited especially since no one else cooks that. Yesterday one of my teens said I have had to do so much cooking I can’t cook anymore! This was after making pancakes for themselves and putting a frozen meal into the oven on the same day!
  9. I put other because it depends on the schedule. The activities aren’t a lot of the timing of them works well. Things like: Are they at the same time and locations or are you all running all day? Do you have time to get school done? Do the kids feel overwhelmed? Etc (you don’t have to actually answer but for us it would depend on those questions if it was too much!)
  10. In some areas, it is a legal requirement to call the police. So it is not personal it is the right thing to do.
  11. What? I love Scott. I don’t buy anything else. I hate the thick soft stuff.
  12. I have 2 extreme extroverts, and my oldest one (now in high school) wanted so badly to go to middle school. Our middle school is horrible! So I didn’t let her. Now in high school, she is so glad she is home. She is incredibly busy and active. She couldn’t do what she does if she was in school. So for her it works well. We have a homeschool group once a week. She is deeply involved in 2 extracurricular activities. They take up 2 to 5 days a week depending on the season. So she is always with friends and people. My younger extrovert has something 2 days a week and tags along to most things, so he gets to see people a lot.
  13. Wow! That is so sad and insane.
  14. Now is a great time for an evaluation. There is no reason to wait (other than waiting to get seen!) Don't let your pediatrician dx ADHD. I have a lot of background working with ADHD children. My dh and dd are ADHD. We have an adopted child who presented like classic ADHD. He was not reading at 7 either. The neuropsych evaluation turned up things I never expected. He is not ADHD. I was so ready to just start meds. Our pediatrician had already dx ADHD and had given the referral to the neuropsychologist. But when I called the dr to set up appointments they asked us not to do meds until after the evaluation if they were needed. They said 3 or 4 out of 10 kids they see dx with ADHD by a pediatrician actually have it. Our kid is a different kid now. It is amazing. We were able to get to the root of some issues and we are still working through others. Take your time and find a good dr. It makes such a difference.
  15. Having gone to college in CA, it may be a little tricky. Some of it will depend on the school, but generally you have to have lived there for more than a year before the start of school (366 days.) Some schools will not allow you to become an "in state" student if you came in as out of state. Because CA tuition is so low, they have a lot of people trying to claim residency to get lower rates. Check with the school(s) he is looking at.
  16. I have added fabric to my girls dresses and skirts when I needed to get them to knee length and couldn't find it. I can done both colors that blend and colors that are a contrast depending on the style.
  17. I agree! It shouldn't be a lot. I had a weird situation with a ticket once, so I hired an attorney. It was like $250 (for the attorney.) I got it dismissed.
  18. I ordered last week from Rainbow Resource, and I had my order in less than a week.
  19. Can you renovate one now and just keep the other as is if needed? Maybe take off the sign so it is not regularly used? You would have to check your locality's ordinances about whether or not it is legal to have bathroom. A lot of places here do.
  20. Same here except it was root beer. I would look at what you are eating and see if there is an ingredient that is bothering you. It could also be an additive you don't tolerate.
  21. I had the same issue with them. So annoying. I just created a new account too.
  22. Apples! A friend makes a delicious apple cherry dessert- similar to a cobbler. I agree they are also good with pineapples.
  23. My crew is spaced out, so we will consistently have 3 at a time but never more than 3. I will have teenagers though for a total of 22 years!
  24. What a tragedy! I am so sorry for their loss. Honestly, I don't think I have had this conversation with my little ones. They only recently started bathing alone, so I have been more concerned about drowning and hygiene. Excellent reminder to have this conversation!
