  1. We tried several different methods to get our son to take a pill since he has one every morning, and what we found is that putting it in a spoonful of yogurt, Danonino works best because it is thickest, was the easiest way to get him to take it.
  2. I would recommend reading the book Breed Freak. It's wonderfully written to help people evaluate the 62 most popular dogs to find one that matches their lifestyle.
  3. He might enjoy Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card. Lots of action and set in space.
  4. Thank you! I've been looking to expand our collection of classical music.
  5. Does this series tend to go on sale every year? I would like to get it eventually, but it's too old for my son right now, and we have limited storage space.
  6. I will check out the copycat books. And also about getting the correct font so I can make my own copywork sheets.
  7. I know! :001_smile: That's what got me looking at it. Who knew there were so many different ways to teach handwriting? And Getty-Dubay is so pretty!
  8. I was wondering if parents using italic handwriting programs for their children don't do any sort of printables that have writing instructions on them? My son, a rising K, needs a handwriting program, but a lot of other instructional material for that age has handwriting guidelines in standard print. Do you make your own instructional material or just not use the printables that would confuse your child's writing?
  9. This is the executive skills book that my son's ADHD specialist recommends, if you want something for younger children. It's very thorough, and has wonderful suggestions. We have seen improvement in his ability to make decisions and follow multiple step directions.
  10. My son is on meds for his ADHD. We tried several other behavioral and dietary therapies before we went to medication, and while they helped some, they weren't sufficient to give him the control he needed and wanted. He's on an extended release form of ritalin. We were lucky that he responded well to the first medication he was on and we only had to fine-tune the dosage. He sees a pediatric ADHD specialist, and he is helping us teach him executive skills management as well as treating him medically.
  11. I have a fidgeter (he has ADHD) and I found that letting him play with something small and quiet while I was reading to him was wonderfully helpful in getting him to retain information. I had to un-learn what a listener looks like, and realize that he needs the extra stimulation to actually be able to pay attention. I have a small basket of fidget toys that he only gets to play with during reading aloud time.
  12. Have you tried Pinterest? I have found a wealth of ideas there from other homeschooling families. For example, I just searched for "homeschool world war II" and one of the pins linked to this website which has a robust list of all sorts of teaching resources for World War II, including songs, books, activities and lesson plans.
  13. I would recommend a clock with geared hands for practice telling time. Other than that, have you checked this list for what manipulatives each book uses? We have this clock and my son loves it. He knows his schedule, so when we tell him it is bath time, he will go set the hands on the clock to the right time.
  14. Have any of you tried the 4 volume concise Hakim that K12 puts out? I was wondering how it compares to the original.
