  1. I am very lucky too to have a husband who has even fewer doubts than me! Like Lorna, when I feel like I'm not doing enough, or I'm not good enough to do this; I look to my husband and he always laughs. We are both products of the GA/US school system (I was average and he was gifted), and we both hated it. Sure, if I had a ton of money I would be tempted (for my oldest) to go to a great private school but those too are few and a killer drive from my home. For the situation you are in, I'm sure your boys are doing great and the experience of living where you do, your travels, will add to their education as much or more so than any private/prep school could.
  2. Exercised Took dd 12 to drama rehearsal Library for 888 bks Cleaned (vac'd, swept, cleaned kitchen) Paid bills Stared vacantly into my fridge looking for food to cook for dinner. I think that's it so far... and all the while hubby is off in the Mts climbing. :p
  3. I go back and forth about this all the time. I do both for the most part. Like last year, I bought Core 6 SL, even though I'm only using part of it. It was so much easier just to buy it and sell off what I don't need. Next year will be different as I already have a bunch of the core items, so it looks like used will be the way to go. I got all my HO new, SM new, but some other math items like Lial's were used. I'm sure I am not being the best consumer and often wish I was a better bargain hunter.
  4. I always have a list and add to it as I hear of new things.
  5. Here's ours. http://ridgeschool.blogspot.com/2007_06_01_archive.html
  6. Some days it's as little as 30 mins. Other days I'm in the car waiting on the girls while they are in classes/co-ops. I can get as much as three hours those days. It's never the same from day-to-day though.
  7. I agree with Heather. My oldest dd stayed right within the SM "grade" levels, at times struggling with the work, until just recently, when she seemed to have a burst of understanding (now doing NEM1 in 6th grade). My youngest is another story, she is doing 3b in 2nd grade, and seems to be flying through it. Fi just learns faster and who knows where she will be in a few years. I'm just hanging on to her coat tails, waiting to see where this leads. I hate how we try to box kids into a grade or level. They all learn differently and at different times. I know we have to follow "standards" but at times they cause us and our kids pain unnecessarily.
  8. My two dd's have celiac. Please send her a big ((hug)). I don't think I can add much more to the two above posts; I think they covered it. She needs to really be careful and make sure she is 100% GF. And I totally agree about looking for further sensitivities, either to food or even something that might be coming into contact with her skin. There are a ton of body products that have gluten (shampoo, toothpaste, etc). Is there a support group in her area. I know there are a number online as well. It can help talking to others going through the same thing. http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/SillyYaks/ Is one I recommend. Wishing her a quick recovery from the blisters!:(
  9. Doing pretty good, I've finished six, and should finish my seventh this weekend (Year of Living Biblically). Currently I'm working on I Am the Messenger (M. Zusak), The Castle Corona (S Creech), and Eat, Pray, Love (E. Gilbert). My full list is on my blog. I hope to keep up this pace, but I know that will be harder in the summer months. :p
  10. Year round with lots of small brakes for field trips, holidays, camps, and just days you need to kick off early or can't get started.
  11. I have also used SM as our main program. DD12 is on NEM1 and DD7 is on 3b. We have used their cd's and CalcuLadders as drill. We have really liked it and even my math skills have improved as I helped with girls learn their method.
  12. I have German and Latin... want them cheap? You just don't learn enough. Some words a few phrases. It's very light stuff for the price.
  13. Do you get to watch the movies too? All I can think of is Grease or Fast Times at Ridgemont High (not sure why).
  14. I'll double post since I'm unsure where.. LOL Here's mine. Link in sig

  16. Art in America National Geographic Rock & Ice Climbing Organic Gardening Spin Secular Homeschooling Reason Paste And a bunch others I get for free from filling out a survey thingy. Stuff like O, Better Homes and Gardens, Interview, etc. They just keep sending them.
  17. So far Classical Writing, but Mr Thompson's series is calling my name and I may just take a look. :D
  18. I still love Ken Burn's series on the Civil War the best. I know it's long but well worth it.
  19. It's 61 and storms are on the way. We should be in the mid 30's after they pass. Not -45 though ;)
  20. I rarely mark a book but I do tend to jot down quotes I like or put a post-it note to mark the page. Now, high school/college, that's a different story. I loved those highlighters!
