  1. I have been to In and Out twice. Never again. Their fries are the texture of cardboard and have no taste. Their burgers are good but not great. My daughter says she would rather eat at McD's. We never eat at McD's.
  2. The guy on the weather channel said this moring. "This is a worst case scenario." I am sitting here going, duh, did we really need to spell that out.
  3. My inlaws got to their hotel in Tampa yesterday only to not have a room. The hotel finally gave her a room with a broken lock. They are up this morning trying to get to Tallahassee. She says gas is hard to find and traffic is horrible. They topped off their tank and are on back roads. Hope they make it in a semi resonable amount of time. FIL will remain cool as a cucumber but MIL freaks out at the slightest thing. It is going to be a long drive for him.
  4. My inlaws left from Ft. Lauderdale for Tampa today. Tomorrow they found a hotel in Tallahassee. Not sure what their ultimate goal is. They were supposed to leave for vacation on Monday. They tried changing their flights but couldn't get a return flight. If it were me I would have just booked the outgoing flight and worried about my return after the storm but whatever. My niece is at FSU so they may stay there to be close to her.
  5. For celiac I would buy new. It will be next to impossible to guarantee complete removal.
  6. Unless she gets into Stanford and we find some spare money lying around LetU is her first choice at the moment. Nobody around here has heard of it, nor do they understand why someone with her stats would want to go there but everytime she talks to them she just lights up. Whether she will end up there once finances are figured out hard to say. She has some great scholarship options already and I am sure more will come. Now if she will just hit submit on some of her other applications....
  7. It is so hard to say with boys. Has he been thru his big growth spurt? My son is 15 and he had his growth spurt. He is still slowly growing but his feet have stayed a 13 for the last year. Because of that I would buy him a 13.5 if I were buying shoes as I don't think he is quite done. If he hasn't finished his big growth spurt all bets are off.
  8. This is not good. Dh's parents are in S. Florida. They are supposed to leave for vacation on Monday. We told them to shutter up and leave Thursday/Friday. I sure hope they take our advice. They took a direct cat 3 hit a few years ago. After that he is now more willing to leave. Don't know what my BIL is planning.
  9. This weekend we found out my DD got into Letourneau, UT Dallas and Alabama! This is getting real! Her little brother (9yo) is sad because now it means she will definitly be leaving.
  10. Eastern Wa is a whole different ballgame. Wa is divided between eastern and Western. Western Wa is crazy expensive. Crazy. Eastern Wa is much more affordable, but you don't have the high paying tech jobs there and people aren't moving in daily by the thousands.
  11. Someone mentioned the Ballard Locks. That is my boys favorite place to go. Hands down. The first time I took them I thought we would go see and leave. Morning adventure. We were there all day. They started crying when we had to leave to pick sister up from school. We were there like 5-6 hours. The Freemont Troll is close to the Locks. There is also Theo Chocolate tour right there. The best kids museum in the "area" is Imagine in Everett. My kids loved it when they were younger. Totally worth the drive.
  12. I see it happen 2-3 times a year. At least. As for the apples. Again, no parent with a with severe allergies would let their kid eat anything not prepared by them, so I think this a moot argument. Have a handful of prepackage apples for the allergy kids but its rediculous to require it for everyone. Until my kid was old enough to understand all the variations of corn, milk, gluten etc, my kid never ate anything I didn't provide, even prepackaged items. I usually found out what things were being offered and found safe alternatives for my son so he didn't feel left out. If I could. If i couldn't then it was just a life lesson that not eveything is fair.
  13. If you know what city you are going to live in find a cool park. We have some amazing parks. We didnt have time to do it this summer but ladt year we had park week and explored a new park every day. My boys said it was the best week of the summer. Also hiking, lots of wonderful places to hike. Go to Lake washington and play on the lake for an afternoon.
  14. We have done the Alska cruise with Disney and they were amazing. They bent over backwards to make sure my daughter had good meals. The key is you need tell them when you book so they can be prepared. My daughter was GF, dairy and egg free at the time. She had a blast!
  15. We are Paleo and have lots of allergies in our home. Outside of the fruit/veggies we don't eat anything on that list, but I wouldn't say it was poison. Personally, Outside of nuts, I think this accomodating for allergies is overboard. I don't know any parent of a severe allergy kid that lets them eat food not provided by them. My son is older now but I always provide food for parties/events/field trips. He will read labels and if there is something he can have then he sees it as a bonus. I have a hard time finding safe food, there is no way I would ever expect another parent to carry my burden, nor do I trust them to know all the different derivatives of corn.
  16. Doesn't the 4-Runner drive more like a truck? I dont want a truck. The reason I am looking at the Highlander is it drives like the Sienna. I drove my grandfathers in a snowstorm. That is why I put it on my list.
  17. You can tell you son was at camp too long when you ask him to fold the towels and he folds them like flags.
  18. My kids are just thankful to have any car to drive. If they ever gave me grief over having a free car to drive then we would be having a little talk about entitlement. Fortunatly my daughter learned to drive in the minivan and actually likes driving it. She goes back and forth between her car and mine seamlessly.
  19. I would really like to drive this for 3 more years. I love having the space, especially when we go skiiing, or on a roadtrip with softball gear etc. Dh wants me to downsize. He was talking about getting me something last spring but I convinced him it wasn't practical until DD left for college. But alas maybe he had a 6th sense. I am getting a second opinion on the car before we decide what to do.
  20. . Thank you! As I suspected, for whatever reason, the scores did not get sent. :-(. I guess i will have to suck it up and pay for them. Grr.
  21. Does anyone know if there is a way to see where ACT scores have been sent? We auto sent to 4 schools last December and it is looking like they were never sent. I cannot even find online where it says I sent scores, let alone which schools I requested.
  22. I thought she would too. Maybe she will but she has completed 8. She is doing one a day with the goal of being done by the time school starts.
  23. My DD has always had a hard time making decisions. Give her a choice between two Ice cream flavors and she will go back and forth until soneone offers to give her 1/2&1/2. The hard part is she will get into most of the 18 so she will have to decide. Some schools she knows she can't afford but just wants to see if she can get in.
  24. Library. I get 25 color or 75 b&w prints per card per week. We have 5 cards.
  25. If I buy my kids another car it will actually cost me more because in 3 years, when my 2 oldest are in college, I will buy myself something "smaller". So instead of buying two cars in 3 years I will just buy what I want now. Then when they are in college I can sell the van if I want. I am the one that drives the most and I always have 2 kids with me, and sometimes 4 so I can't do (nor do I want) a small car.
