  1. I feel like I have no book suggestions for my love-to-read-kids. What do you suggest? They've done: * 39 clues * How to Train Your Dragon * some series about a secret (like I can't tell you the name of this book...) * Beverly Cleary books * Encyclopedia Brown * Hardy Boys * 1 of them read Box Car Children, other ones not so interested * Older one is reading Narnia for co-op * Avi's Poppy series * Percy Jackson and many more that aren't listed here. But I'm really out of ideas and they despertely want books.
  2. Moved to a new house. Need a few rugs over hardwood (dog's claws are making a mess). Right now in need of 3 runners. Thinking about bamboo. Anyone have any luck w/ these? Maintenance? Do they last? Other rug suggestions would be great too.
  3. Bought some white ceramic dishes, made in China. They are open stock (meaning no box) Realized when got home aren't marked w/ anything like "dishwasher/ microwave safe". No manufacturer info so can't track that down. Would you use these in the microwave or assume they aren't microwave safe? I really like them and want to use them.... but trying not to kill my family (w/ the microwave, not being patient might kill them though :) )
  4. Had ordered "Hidden Plague", thinking of getting a full allergy work up, going to see chiropractor that deals w/ supplements, would consider the local amish doctor, have handled current cysts w/ antiobodics, turmeric, zinc, and vit a. Any deodorant suggestions? Ever tried a cleanse? Do you think it's associated w/ a leaky gut or something else?
  5. Had by first cysts this summer. Didn't really believe the diagnosis. Another boil just started. Believing the diagnosis and trying to fight this. Looking for others... Anyone?
  6. We live in OH. You tap them here in Feb. WELL before there are flowers. It's when the days are above freezing and the nights are below freezing. The sap in the tree just starts to run. Wondering if you have enough of a freeze in SC to get the syrupy sap. Also, it takes 40-50 gallons of sap to make 1 gallon of maple syrup. That's a whole lot of fuel for boiling. So we've never bothered to have it be worthwhile. But is it YUMMY stuff!!!!!
  7. We're in the process of selling our home. Someone approached about the posibility of rent-to-buy. Does anyone have experience or comments on this whether they rented/sold a house this way or bought one this way? Just starting my research on it. Thanks!
  8. So I was going to give this no-grate laundry detergent a try. Have never made laundry detergent before and have been on the fence, but this is so simple. http://www.onegoodthingbyjillee.com/2013/03/super-concentrated-no-grate-liquid-laundry-detergent.html However, when you buy the ingredients, the borax for example says to add 1/2 c. to a load w/ normal detergent. The recipe above is like 1/2c /gallon detergent. Can such few ingredients and quantities really get your clothes clean? I'm looking to hear from those that have had luck and those that haven't in making your own laundry soap.
  9. Yes, like the back was decorated. Final solution looks like 31 Days of Organizing (love her fabric) but... was the back of a dry erase board... We do so much work on the floorI need something I can move around and glass also wouldn't be a solution for that.
  10. Recently saw a dry erase board that had been wrapped or covered in fabric on the one side so that it could become sort of like a piece of art in the home rather than a school thing in the dining room. Anyone know how to do this or have any hints.
  11. I am sorry you're feeling this way. As the spouce of someone who deals w/ depression I would encourage you, that if this is more than just a few days around the holidays, to seek counseling and possibly medication. Holiday blues and depression are not necessarily the same thing. Hugs
  12. My niece is coming to Richardson from OH for a co-op job. Co-op wages don't get you very far when it comes to housing. Anyone know: * Of someone who needs/ wants a roomate for Jan-Apr? * A room to rent at someones home? * A safe nieghborhood near there that might have an affordable furnished place? Any other ideas of what we might be able to do?
  13. OK, somewhat less $ (but still a lot for a table), but really interesting designs... http://www.etsy.com/people/TheSphereofOZ
  14. http://www.patiotablesmart.com/patio-dining-tables/kore-round-patio-dining-table-49-inch-glass-top-488.html I like this table for our kitchen, but can't afford it. Like: frosted glass, larger size, metal is more subtle (maybe it's brushed?) and seems slightly industrial. Can anyone help me find something similar that I can afford? or a cool metalish kitchen table?
  15. My 11 yo son just finished his Science for the semester. Looking to check out magazines from the library to have him read. Any recs for about 5-7th grade science magazines?
  16. TITLE SHOULD SAY: SHOULD or SHOULDN'T :) We moved into another home a couple months ago and finally finished getting old house market ready. SO, here we are.... wondering if we should try it via FSBO.... do a website, flyers on the street mailboxes, flood info out to various local homeschool groups and try FSBO until the new year. Also offer 3% buyers agent commission. Any thoughts on why or why not I should try this. Anyone else done FSBO w/ luck or regrets? (We used an agent to buy this house. Most loyal guy you'll ever meet. Not the most aggressive or tech savy. Thinking we prob want that in the next agent, but haven't looked for another one yet nor made a decision about the original one as selling agent.)
  17. Looking for an on-line site, preferably video or audio w/ biblical based expository preaching. Any recs or other good site I might want to check out for bible teaching? Thanks
  18. I know no details, but I know a friend of mine biys CO2 from someplace and makes his own in a bottle. Says it's SUPER cheap. While not in a glass, something you coudld maybe google and see if it works for you?
  19. I assume you can find one for under $25 - an immersion blender. Perfect for soups and hiding veggies in the soup or thickening them up w/o a bunch of cream. LOVE it!
  20. How do you motivate a husband to join you in the decluttering? We just moved (to a bigger house which he thinks= MORE ROOM for things). We're not done moving. The garage still needs to get moved. (his stuff). But he was outof town for a good part of the move and I moved EVERY single box other than the garage and I want things out!!! We've got to get rid of things. It's not going to the grave w/ us. We're not using it. We're not pulling out the memories and sharing them w/ our kids or reminiscing over a bottle of wine. So why do we have these things???? (sorry for the vent) Original question - how do we get help from our famillies? Also want to add we are part of a co-op. They have a free table there. GREAT place to drop off things for others. (And sometimes pick up a few needed items)
  21. We're moving 4 houses down. Estimate is about 5 hours of work. Mostly just the bigger things. No packing, assembling or disassembling. Have read in some spots you're supposed to tip? Really? Already paying $110/hr plus $80 just to show up. If so how much tip?
  22. Usually around Feb I am totally burned out. This past year we had so much illness in our family we were off about a month during Dec/ Jan. This was the first year the burnout didn't take place. I think that forced extended break was good for us. Not sure if I'd intentionally due it this winter or not. We'll see. Best of luck to you.
  23. Sorry, this won't realy help. I'm one of those hard to buy for people. (Probably most similar to g'parents). I feel like I have everything I need, I don't want to add more clutter to the house, and if I really want hubby to buy me something I tell him. So usually at Christmas time I REALLY mean it, PLEASE don't buy me anything unless I've asked for it. :)
  24. Haven't read other posts, but I'm thinking about the Halloween stores that pop up for a couple months in the fall. Maybe these locations (although they are store fronts) would be interested in having their space used other times during the year.
