  1. Anyone know of a science curriculum that is similar to the style of Story of the World?? Thanks
  2. How many Vocabulary from Classical Roots do you assign per year?? Just one book??
  3. Can someone inform me, PLEASE?? I am thinking of purchasing Early American and World History from Beautiful Feet. It says it will count for (9th grade) - 1 history credit and - 1/2 credit in literature Ahhhhhh. What does that mean? Don't I need a full credit in literature? If I add grammar or vocab...would that complete the credit for High School English??
  4. Hi. I am thinking of purchasing Notgrass Exploring America for 9th grade. It says my dd will receive a...History, English and Bible credit. So...is the English credit missing the writing component? Do I need to add writing, grammar, or whatever to get a full language arts credit for high school?
  5. Hi. I am wondering if my Kindergartener who can't retain the names of letters or their sounds might be dyslexic. Any other ideas or learning issues that I should look in to? Even though we go over a few letters a day v-e-r-y slowly, she can't remember their name or sound. Often times, she even thinks they are a number. I've played games. Had her color and cut-out the letters. Build the letters, paint them, etc. Thanks for any help.
  6. My kindergartener is really struggling to remember any of the letters or the sounds. Can you tell me how long it took your child to learn the alphabet?
  7. Soooo, are you saying....I watch the Teaching Writing with Structure and Style ALONE...and then I watch the Student Writing Intensive WITH THE KIDS?? If so, when do I incorporate the Teaching Writing with Structure and Style techniques into their daily work? Aren't there daily excercises that go along with TWWSS? Wouldn't that be like doing TWO writing programs (mine and theirs)? And...aren't the students taught the same techniques through the Student Writing Intensive? It seems like I'd be teaching them the same thing that is included in their DVD (SWI). Sorry...still so confused! Thanks for your help!
  8. IEW Questions HELP....please. Anyone used the IEW Structure and Style (for teachers) and the IEW Student Writing Intensive at the same time? I know they sell it together. I bought both this year and now I'm not sure how to incorporate them at the same time. It seems that IEW Structure and Style DVDs are primarily for the teacher with tips or tools for the student to work on. IEW Student Writing Intensive has it's own set of DVDs for the student and their own worksheets. Soooo, how do I use them both in the same year? Do I dedicate one day a week to IEW Structure and Style DVD...and then....another day a week to IEW Student Writing Intensive? Thanks
  9. Hi All! I'm looking for advice for my soon-to-be second grader. He is not reading well. I'm not sure what the problem is. (A little background info: My older son seems to have dyslexia, but has learned to cope with it. He is actually a very good reader now...but he struggled tremendously in 1st and 2nd grade.) So, what I see my 7 year old doing is struggling with very easy words like at, am, an, sat, ham, can if he hasn't been reading in a few weeks. Once he is on a "roll" and kind of knows what the story is about, he usually can read it (perhaps by guessing or memory). He can actually read when I read with him on a daily basis....however, over the summer he has not been reading and so I sat down with him recently to "brush up on his reading" and there is NOT much retention there at all. If I show him a list of words that he hasn't been constantly going over, he cannot seem to "sound them out" on his own. Simple words like "tan". In first grade, he could read stories from his Rod and Staff reader, but as the words got harder...he struggled. He seems to struggle with "retaining what he has previously learned". He seems very bright otherwise. Could this be dyslexia or another processing issue? Any advice for me? :bigear: I'm all ears!! I don't know what to do. I have used 100 Easy Lessons, Rod and Staff, and have "checked out" Alpha-phonics and Let's Read from my library. WHAT CURRICULUM SHOULD I USE?
  10. Hi. Just wondering what your most favorite curriculum was for 2nd grade!!
  11. Anyone use A New World of Adventure? We did A World of Adventure last year and LOVED it!! Just wondering how it compares. More work? Does it seem harder?
  12. Can someone explain this to me? I am pretty sure I just heard a homeschool speaker say that you cannot be dual-enrolled and be in an umbrella school. Could that be true? I read that if the umbrella school has an agreement with the colleges, then it is o.k. Can someone verify or correct the information?? Thanks so much!
