  1. Jeri, I agree - one year of Spanish looks like nothing on a transcript and isn't particularly useful... I just can't seem to let go of my PS mindset of having had 4 years of a language. Hence the thoughts of going for the 4th year of Latin... Perhaps 3 of Latin and 3 of Spanish will be ok???
  2. Thanks for the replies.. DS has had 3 years of Latin and 1 of Spanish and we are trying to decide where to head next..
  3. Are colleges still willing to accept Latin for the foreign language requirement in high school or do you think they want to see a modern foreign language on the transcript? Thanks!
  4. :iagree: Mine are wonderful too - some of most relaxing days are in their company!
  5. DD and DS need to memorize a chapter of Latin vocab each week for an online class. The teachers suggest flash cards but they only seem helpful for memorizing the English meaning of the words. They don't help at all with spelling which is required. Do any of you have any great ideas for memorizing vocab - both Latin/English, English/Latin, and spelling? Thanks!
  6. For those who stayed with SM6 A/B, what did you do in the absence of the HIGs if you used the Standards edition? I really like them for checking work quickly!
  7. I would like to make the jump into the world of a DSLR camera. I have mostly been looking at the Canon EOS Rebel. However, when I try to price them, they all come with a variety of lens kits, and that is where I get lost! Any experts out there willing to help? Thanks!
  8. :bigear: nobody told me to skip SM 6.... who knew? definitely subscribing to this thread...
  9. Would thinking of it as a long term decision rather than a short term decision help?
  10. SOLD! Thank you so much for providing free pdfs to use until these became available.
  11. For comic relief each day, we review how poorly my two kids have followed directions in WWS... it's not that bad, but we do laugh (or else we might cry). Is anybody else experiencing trouble with their students even finding the directions, much less following them? BTW, I love the way the instructions are integrated, as it is training them to really look. I just now realized how bad they actually are at reading and discerning the directions....
  12. Boden-addict here... I typically order up a size in skirts b/c I like them lower on the waist. Tops fit true to size, but I find many are a bit low cut for me. Quality and customer service are great!
  13. Have you thought about starting a church? I agree with pp that Sovereign Grace Ministries sounds like a pretty good fit...
  14. DD10 and DS 11 are doing SOTW 4 together this year. I have them read the section in the book and then orally ask the questions from the Activity Guide. My hope is that at least one of them will be able to answer the question. Rarely do they get more than about 50% without having to look back/reread. Any suggestions for improving their comprehension? What are you doing to get the "facts" into their heads? Thanks!
  15. In the interest of full disclosure, he takes an online class through Veritas. The class meets for 3 hours of instruction (with lots of review built in)..i.e. it might not take 3 hours of instruction per week for your student to get it. He then spends 15 minutes per day memorizing vocabulary and 30-45 minutes on translations per week.
  16. DS11 is using Wheelocks at a pace of 1 chapter/week. He is doing fine, but we really have to work hard on memorizing vocabulary. He also needs some oversight with the translation activities.
  17. 14 DS who plans on being a doctor is reading it now - he said he thought the dialog was hysterical... Does he just think he is "supposed" to hate it?

  19. We loved the poem and the message! DS memorized it in 4th grade.
  20. Don't tell them anything - my job is feeding, driving, cheering, and paying the bills!
  21. DD10 needs to memorize a poem of 300 words or more for a co-op class. I am struggling to find a poem of that length that is still age appropriate. Any suggestions? Thanks!
  22. We live in Leawood, KS. Homeschooling is easy-peasy! MPE is the support group. Feel free to PM me with questions....
