  1. So Albart Enstien Acadamy for Gitfed Chlidron is probably out.
  2. I hated these puzzles. Lol. As the batteries drained the sounds would go off randomly at all hours. I grew accustomed to hearing farm animals and various instruments in the middle of the night.
  3. Thank you! This will be perfect for keeping math skills up this summer. :)
  4. Thank you for all of the suggestions. I have some sampling to do after my kids are asleep tonight. :)
  5. My 7 y/o still fronts the /th/ sounds, especially in medial and final positions. LiPS has been very helpful for him--he still can't discriminate between th and f aurally, but he can use visual cues to see the difference.
  6. Hmm. I like this a lot, but it doesn't look minimalist to me. I think it's all the stuff on the shelves in front of the books. That's what my shelves look like right now, and I think it looks cluttery and like the stuff's about to fall on the floor. :) I'm also imagining leaves and petals on the floor under the droopy plant. lol I guess I'm the pessimistic minimalist.
  7. Modern apartment in the city, with Eames and Le Corbusier furniture. I would work as an archivist in an academic library, and play old-time music on the side. I would travel with a like-minded friend. :) But really, living alone is not good for me. I'm better off with my rug rats and husband. :)
  8. Wait, Encino Man Brendan Fraser? He does audio books? Mind blown.
  9. My reaction to MSG is dose-dependent. The only time I had a significant reaction was while living in China, after eating with a friend. He was showing me how to cook some traditional Chinese dishes, and put scoop after scoop of a white powder in the wok. "What is that?" I asked. "MSG" he replied. My heart was racing for the rest of the evening. Maybe the restaurant uses more MSG than average? It's hard to know. Feel better soon!
  10. I just signed up for a free trial of Audible. My first book was the Ian McKellen reading of The Odyssey. What should I get with my second credit? I'm looking for a meaty story, appropriate for all ages, interesting for two very active boys. Go! :)
  11. We recently decluttered and had a yard sale, with all remainders going to a local thrift store. Today, I looked around and thought, how do we still have so much stuff? We have a long way to go.
  12. I'm another whose gut is unreliable. I take the usual precautions, but if I listened to my gut I would never go anywhere. Is there a way to develop a more reasonable intuition?
  13. Your contract stunk. When we were looking for houses in a hot market where houses were under contract the day they came on the market, we had contracts with several houses with a three day cooling off clause, and a longer inspection clause. We would make an offer, and if it was accepted, then we would do the research on the neighborhood, etc. One house we rejected the day after the contract was made because there were something like 90 registered sex offenders within a 1/2 mile radius. With another house, we made a contract, were happy with the neighborhood, had an inspection, but still had a feeling we were missing something. We had an electrician come out after the inspection clause period, and realized that nothing was to code, the knob and tube wiring was arcing in places, and the breaker box was one that had been recalled because it was prone to bursting into flames. Added to the furnace that needed to be replaced immediately, it was too much. We were able to break the contract, forfeiting only earnest money. Better to forfeit $1500 than to have $30,000 worth of repairs immediately upon moving in!
  14. The Catholic high school will probably use ecclesiastical pronunciation. I am planning on using ecclesiastical pronunciation because I think it sounds prettier. Classical pronunciation makes me think of Pontius Pilate in Life of Brian.
  15. Why does the buyer think that a plumber will even remember details from a job he/she did ten years ago?
  16. Lol. I love reading Chicka Chicka Boom Boom to my kids. The book that I don't like is the one with the nut brown hare, always trying to one-up the baby hare. I could read Thunder Cake or Strega Nona to my kids five times a day, every day, and still love them. :)
  17. Oh! From the pic, I thought it had to be a cross-legged sit. I was imagining my knees simultaneously dislocating as I crossed them and squatted down. I'm a nine with a non crossed-leg sit.
  18. According to this one, I'm a goner. :D
  19. I can understand the pique vs. peak thing. Say that your interest level is at a steady state: _____________________________ Then something suddenly interests you: ________^________ See? It's a "peak" in your interest level.
  20. The construction "As a Christian---" implies that you are speaking for Christians in general. Sometimes that construction is used to imply that those who do not agree are not Christians. Or not Christian "enough." Christians are not a monolithic group of people who hold the same beliefs on every issue. People talk about their faith on this board every day--there are lots of prayer threads, questions about theology and church, and even entire social groups devoted to various faith traditions.
  21. I was surprised that there were no questions about diet or weight. I am 38, 40 for the test, and I got an age of 23 and 5-year risk of dying of .1%. I've been walking around thinking that being overweight means I'm going to keel over from a heart attack any minute now.
  22. We like the Bubble Bum. The only issue we have is that our 7 y/o can't get the belt through the clip by himself--he needs help.
  23. I made them myself. The color doesn't matter, as long as they are very different--you probably wouldn't want red, red-orange, orange-red, and orange. lol I have red, blue, green, yellow, brown, and pink. :)
