  1. I have the Glencoe World Geography TE. While there are a large number of notes and suggestions for lessons most of them refer you to another Glencoe resource. If you can find it, you would be better off looking for the 'Teacher Works All-In-One Planner' for the textbook that you would like to use. I did find quite a few of the additional resources used on Amazon for the World Geography book, but it would have been nicer if I had been able to find the CD instead. In addition to additional resources the CD usually includes an interactive teacher edition. Yvonne in NE
  2. My dd did DIVE Chemistry with the Apologia Chemistry book. There were many instances where what was covered on the DIVE CD or the vocabulary to look up were not in the Apologia book and she would have to go to other sources to find the info. She wishes we had used the BJU book. The only reason she was using the Apologia text was because she was taking an outside lab that used the book. Next time around the other kids will use a different textbook. Yvonne in NE
  3. Laying the Foundation Vocabulary -- 65 free lessons that cover words that have appeared on the PSAT/SAT tests. 25 words per lesson, sentence completion exercises, and matching tests Here is the link: https://www.ltftraining.org/English/SATVocabulary.aspx Yvonne in NE
  4. Grace: I found a number of teacher resources for Glencoe Geography including a Testmaker CD that will generate the tests for me. I can use what it generates or pick and choose the questions. If you can find it (ISBN 0078653339) it makes the testing easier. Before I found it, I was planning on using the Chapter Reviews as the test. There is also a website for the Glencoe Book http://glencoe.mcgraw-hill.com/sites/0078606993/ which has self-check quizzes among other things. I don't have the course planned out yet as not everything I have ordered from various places has arrived, but I'm looking forward to putting it all together. Yvonne
  5. You can also buy BJU from scripturetruth. http://www.scripturetruth.com/shop/category.aspx?catid=625 Their prices are usually about a 15% off list price. My oldest used the newest edition without the DVD's a couple of years ago. The tests did include a lot of IMHO insignificant details. For every continent except North American, I allowed open book tests except for the mapping -- those she had to memorize. She also had to read a number of 'travel books'. She liked the book; I found it rather boring ;) I'm gong to give Glencoe Geography a try this year with my other two. Yvonne in NE
  6. We did all the odds, but it was spread over two days, not one. Yvonne in NE
  7. My dd 14, 3rd and last 9th grader. Next year it is 9th, 10th, and 12th!! Yvonne in NE
  8. Please pray for a local homeschooling family. Their 3 yr old dd , Savannah, has suffered a series of strokes which has the doctors baffled. The doctors have still not determined the cause or the trigger of the strokes. Savannah came back from a stroke about a month ago, but yesterday suffered another one. This was the latest update we received early this morning: With heavy hearts we ask for prayer for Savannah...we brought her to children's this afternoon after she wasn't acting right. She has suffered another stroke, this time in her brain stem and affecting her left side. She is in ICU and so far her vitals are stable. She is on a heparin IV drip..please pray for our peace and for no more damage as it could be fatal. Yvonne in NE
  9. We visited there just a couple of months ago. My dd, a junior, is interested in their history department. We were very impressed not only with the facilities, but also with the people we met. We were there on a scheduled college visit day and were amazed at the number of states represented. My neice goes to Northwestern in Orange City and both schools have a very good reputation. Small town, large farming operations, very clean (my mil says that is the Dutch influence :) Oh, and they reimbursed us for our travel expenses!! Yvonne in NE
  10. This was the reply that I received back after asking about their employment policies: I understand your disappointment about the Amazon prime membership being eligible for the college students with a valid .edu e-mail address, and be actively enrolled in at least one course at a college or university located in the United States. It is true that we currently have this free prime membership only for the student with valid enrollments in universities. I had to go back and reread my email to them -- have no idea how they came up with this response. I felt like I was in the twilight zone!!! Yvonne in NE
  11. I have used a number of BJU sciences with labs (Life Science, Space/Earth, Physical Science, Biology, & Physics). I have purchased most of my supplies through Home Training Tools -- they have kits for BJU Sciences, but I only purchase what I need. However their kit order form is really helpful as it lists everything that is in the kit, which lab it is used in, etc. I usually go through the list and check off what we have and just order what we need. Here is a link to the page for the Physical Science kit, half way down the page you should see 'kit order form' http://www.hometrainingtools.com/physical-science-9-kit/p/BJ-KIT09/ If a lab is too difficult to do at home it will not either not list any items for that lab or it will recommend optional items to do the same thing. Also for BJU Physical Science there is a DVD you can order that is just the labs. Yvonne in NE
  12. This year!!! We have 3 weeks left of school and I will be so glad to put this year behind us. I need a break!! Yvonne in NE
  13. Thanks for asking and answering this. I had the same question for my dd. Yvonne in NE
  14. I'm curious. Did you specifically speak to a representative at Kolbe and ask about enrolling in a single course and being sold the solutions manual? Kolbe told me that as long as I could prove I was a homeschooler, which I did with my state papers, I could enroll for that one course and they would sell me the solutions manual. Maybe since last summer they have changed their policy. Yvonne in NE
  15. Well, I enrolled for just a single course Physics and they sold me the Solutions Manual. It is sitting on the shelf. You can enroll for just one course. http://www.kolbe.org/single_course_enrollment/ Yvonne in NE
  16. If you register with Kolbe Academy, you can purchase the Solutions Manual from Kolbe for the Kinetic Physics courses. A single course enrollment with Kolbe Academy is $45. Yvonne in NE
  17. I think that as they come out with newer editions the solutions are included. I know we used the older edition of Pre-Algebra and only the answer was shown, but the newer editions have the solutions in the margins of the TE. Yvonne in NE
  18. We have done a number of Positive Action For Christ studies (Jr. and High School) and have been pleased with them. Precepts also has some curriculum for high school that is challenging -- http://store.precept.org/search.aspx?SearchTerm=curriculum&x=0&y=0 I am tentatively planning on having my kids do a Precept In/Out study on Daniel in the fall. Yvonne in NE
  19. I have done BJU Physical Science (4th edition) with my 8th and 9th grader this year and it is a great course. I did not use the DVDs, but I did use the Physical Science Lab DVD which helped them know what they were suppose to do before they actually tried the lab on their own. Other than the DVD lab, I have taught the course myself and while I was apprehensive at the beginning of the year and it has been successful. We have two chapters left!!! You might check with BJU and double check that the DVD is still a 45 minute class. Physical Science has been redone to go with the 4th edition and it is not the BJ Link class of old. It is my understanding that it is more like the 7th and 8th grade courses and those are only 30 minutes each. I have tried 3 different Apologia textbooks and have given up trying any more. They are just not a fit around here ;) Yvonne in NE
  20. My ds is using Notgrass American History this year and it is working for him; he is learning and remembering the info. I tried to do TOG with him and it was just too much -- he was overwhelmed with the amount of info to get through. On the other hand, my dd who really enjoys history and is planning on majoring in history would be totally bored with Notgrass and really enjoys TOG. Bottom line: 'good' history for ds because that is what works for him, but it would not be a fit for dd. Yvonne in NE
  21. Our church has an Awana store and the kids earn 'Awana bucks' throughout the year. However when it is time for the Awana store, the kids use their Awana bucks to buy things for the local city mission, or to buy things for a ministry to inner city kids, or to a missionary that the church supports. So all along they are earning dollars to 'buy' something for someone in need. Yvonne in NE
  22. My ds is taking BJU Geometry online this year. There is a blog/bulletin board option that allows the kids to post and have conversations -- it is moderated by BJUP. My ds has never done anything with it. He just watches his lesson. I have done DVD's in the past; this is the first course we have taken online. It is convenient not having to mess with DVD's, but I do not care for the online testing feature. We had to drop those and I type up the tests as there is no easy way to print out the test from the website. Yvonne in NE Yvonne in NE
  23. I just received their latest catalog (2011-2012) and it is in the catalog now -- no pricing but a description. It includes a Bible credit, 1st semester US History 1877-present, economics 2nd semester, geography, and modern literature/speech - one semester each. I also know of families that are piloting it this year. Yvonne in NE
  24. FYI -- if you find it used the seller is breaking the End User License Agreement. DIVE CD's are not to be resold, loaned or given away. http://www.diveintomath.com/cgi-bin/commerce.cgi?search=action&template=static/policies.html
