  1. We have used a number of BJU DVD/online science courses over the past few years and have been pleased with them. I have always felt that I can put together history and literature courses and would prefer the kids spend their time reading and discussing rather than listening to a lecture. Science courses not so much. The BJU DVD option or the online option is the same content just a different delivery. When we have had questions I have found that the BJU people have been responsive and provided us with timely answers. The online option is nice in that you don't have to keep track of DVDs, but it isn't like a live online class where there is a set time you need to sign in. I do not care for the online testing option with BJU; we just used the paper tests. Yvonne in NE
  2. My dd is taking Photography from the Potter's School this year and I have been very pleased--positive experience. Yvonne NE
  3. I just heard on the evening news that at age 16 he was taking college courses at a local college. If she did pull him out to homeschool, it sounds like he may have been enrolled elsewhere. This is, of course, assuming you can believe anything that is coming from the media! Yvonne

  5. For high school we have used Biology, Chemistry, and Geometry. Overall I have been pleased especially with the science classes. May not be a perfect solution, but better than any of my other choices. I prefer the newer classes that have been redone and are not the old BJLink classes. I prefer the online option over the DVDs because I don't have to keep track of DVDs. I do not use the online testing option however. I either create my own tests or use the preprinted tests. 6. I had the shingles when my ds was 10 months. He got the chicken pox and my 2 yr old also got the chicken pox. So yes it is possible. Yvonne
  7. I will have to ask him for you. I know a big thing was the local channel issue since they were told they would have local channels and then when they found out they did not have them -- dish basically said "too bad that is what you get.". My in-laws also have dish and I was looking at their bill one day for them and Dish had been overcharging for three years. They only refunded 3 months of the overcharges, they also wanted to charge them to correct the bill even though it was a Dish mistake. I know some people will say that is the consumer's responsibility to look at your bill, but as people get older some of these bills are difficult to decipher. Yvonne
  8. My dad has dish in western NE and he hates it!! He has had nothing but troubles. No local stations at all, no NE stations at all. He said that when his contract is up he will go with no TV before he signs with dish again. Yvonne
  9. Has anyone used Thinkwell Economics either with or without Sonlight? Opinions? I'm looking at the Sonlight schedule and they have it scheduled over 18 weeks, but Thinkwell has is scheduled over 36 weeks. Is the Sonlight schedule aggressive or is the Thinkwell schedule slow? Thanks for any info. Yvonne in NE

  11. Thanks for the ideas. I'm planning this course for next year for my ds and dd who will be a Sr and a Jr. I tend to start planning early. The Jr will be doing American History, but the Sr will be doing government and economics. Both of them are very capable and have college plans. Literature would not be a favorite subject of either one, but then they would tell me that they have no favorite subjects! The Early American book is part of the parallel series. http://www.perfectionlearning.com/parallel-text-early-american Yvonne
  12. Well that is good to know. I can pull something together, but after 14 years of doing this I am tired ;) and just want something that I can pick up and use. My oldest used TOG and thrived, but these two would run screaming to the nearest hills if I tried TOG with them! Yvonne in NE
  13. I am researching American Literature resources for a junior and senior and am wondering if anyone has used either American Short Stories or Early American Literature resources from Perfection Learning. I believe that MFW uses the Early American Literature resources. Any opinions would be appreciated. Thanks. Yvonne in NE
  14. Just watched a documentary this weekend at the college my dd attends about slums -- he might want to rethink that plan. http://www.fourthworldfilm.com/ Yvonne in NE
  15. Not an experienced users since this is the first year we have used this class, but I spread the schedule out over 18 weeks. The recommended schedule for 1st semester only covers 14 weeks and two of those weeks were review and semester exam. So far so good. Yvonne in NE
  16. So is your dorm living student getting a flu shot? We have never gotten flu shots in the past, but my dd is getting a number of emails from the school health department encouraging students to get a flu shot. Opinions?? Yvonne in NE
  17. Has my ds been hanging out at your house??? He does the same exact thing!!! Drives me crazy!! Yvonne in NE

  19. You can only watch the replays online at NBC if you have the correct cable pkg -- which we don't. I told a friend that watching the Olympics on NBC was liking being invited to a party after everyone has already gone home and the lights are out!! Yvonne in NE
  20. We are playing on the tv with a cable hooked up to a laptop. Can also watch on the iPad. Yvonne in NE
  21. Based on recommendations from others on the website I installed tunnelbear, paid $4.99 for a month of coverage and have enjoyed watching on BBC. There is no comparison between the BBC coverage and NBC. We have watched all kinds of events live and we can also watch all the replays we want to shortly after the event concludes. There really are more events than what NBC shows and there are more people competing than just Americans:tongue_smilie: Yvonne in NE
  22. Thank you for the post about watching the Olympics via tunnelbear. I have seen more Olympics in the last couple of hours than I have seen in the last 3 days!!! Thank you very much!!!!! Yvonne in NE
  23. Can't even watch the replay videos without a cable or satellite account. I really despise NBC!! Yvonne in NE
  24. My dd used both last year. She liked the government, found the economics dry. However, she stated that it was a good introduction and it got the job done. If it was something she had been interested in, she would have preferred something else for economics ;) Yvonne in NE
  25. Julie, Praying that the peace that passes all understanding will surround and comfort you during the days ahead. Will be praying for you and your family. Yvonne in NE
