  1. Hey, Kathy how funny this is the first message that popped up on my google reader :) hope you get some good answers.
  2. this is exactly what we are doing. ds is in 6th grade and so far Henle has been a breeze. We're using the MP guide, as well, and really like it. I emailed MP about being a beta-tester and never heard back. I think I'll let it go at this point.
  3. I just voted and it's still a tie. go figure. It does say, though, that it's not a scientific pole. or maybe so many people have voted that it will take a lot more to change it.
  4. I taught my first 2 without a cursive curriculum. We use SWR, so as I was teaching them sounds I would teach them how to write the sounds. With my 3rd, I had CF but basically did the same thing except now she had worksheets to practice on. don't know if that answers your question. I haven't ever seen Z-B cursive, but I would imagine that if he's interested you could just keep going with what's working
  5. Kathy, I'm so glad you are getting some answers for Levi. What a relief to know what it is finally and to start finding something to help him through the pain.
  6. I watched most of the first load. It was 54 mins. long and I don't have that long of an attention span :) the guy that we bought ours from told us that we could even use 1/2 T soap. so that's what we've been doing. I hadn't heard about not using soap with the first load of jeans, though. wish I had known that.
  7. Yes, but I don't always get up when it goes off. I set it for radio, then doze till a little one comes over.
  8. That was awesome!!! they smashed everything! the world record and the French! and they beat the world record holder to do it. Wow, I'm glad I stayed up late to watch.
  9. I've made two of these. The only difference in mine is that every other square is quartered. So I have a nine inch square and the next square is made up of four 4 1/2 inch squares (4 different patterns). Does that make sense? It's time consuming to cut out all the pieces, but I enjoy it :)
  10. I'm not sure the ages of your kids. but I thought this book looks fun. I got it for my kids but haven't had time to really look through it yet. http://www.rainbowresource.com/pictures/023655/1217991518-1396610 Jean
  11. Yes! We love summer. DH works at a ps, so it is Sat. everyday for about 8 weeks. This summer it will be closer to 10 weeks when dh goes back because they are moving into a new building.
  12. We are going on a field trip our first 2 days. DH is a guidance counselor and goes back on a Thursday. So Thurs we are going to a pottery painting place, then to our favorite pretzel shop. The next day we will go to the beach or a waterpark. I might have them do a diagnostic spelling test for SWR one of those days or maybe a math assessment or something just to see how much they lost with the summer off.
  13. Yes! I just called today. I have one item on back order but she said the rest should be on the way. :) The only thing I don't like about getting my order from rr is that I spend a huge amount of money (for me) and then they pack it into this tiny box! which, I guess, is good for the books, but with that amount of money, I feel like it should be a HUGE box! LOL
  14. Our year is going to be busy too. dd8 has been in ballet for a couple of years and wants to continue that. It's just once a week. But she also really loves soccer. dh is a women's soccer coach at the college next door and so soccer is a big family thing. So, she will be on a traveling team this fall but that will only be one evening a week and a few Sat. a month. Next spring it will probably be even more as they travel more. She also has piano once a week. and I have 3 other kids. the girls are all in ballet. The 2 oldest are in piano. Dh's soccer season starts mid-august - late October/early Nov. So he's gone til 6/7 every evening, later is there's a game. That doesn't even include all I want to do :) I would love to be in a Bible Study. There is a church close by that has good Women's Bible Studies, but they are during the day and have baby sitting so my littles could go there while the olders do their work, right? oh, and I run too. but dh's been home this summer so I haven't had to get up early. next week, though, I'll need to make some changes to my sleeping habits to get ready for when he goes back to work. :tongue_smilie: then there's alway swim lessons at the college, which the kids love. and ds needs an activity. We try to stay home during the day as much as possible. We do school from 9-3ish, with an hour or so in the middle there where we go up to the college and play or swim or we just take a break here at home. then pick up again after lunch. The only exception last year was that they had piano on Monday's at 1. This year that will be a little later, but not much. Not sure if that's much help, but there it is, that's what it looks like at our house.
  15. We just got this. We are on the 8.99/ one at a time, unlimited instant watching plan. So far it's worked okay, because there are quite a few options for the kids online. But eventually we may go to the 2 at a time option, so the kids can have one and dh can have one. I rarely watch movies. I get movies from the library that I really want to see, but then never watch them.
  16. cool! I just saw this the other day and was going to ask if anyone does this. It's hard to believe that you can get ink for less then half the price of a new cartridge! I'm going to do this next time I need ink.
  17. Wow! I buy them at Wal-mart for $1.98/lb. They come from Disney Gardens, and I'm in Northern Indiana. Maybe I'm getting a different kind of cherry, but I thought they were bing cherries? Okay, here's a link to the cherries I buy. I get the darker ones. http://www.chelanfresh.com/disney-cherries/
  18. We are starting on Thursday, Aug. 21, because that's the day dh goes back to work. He's a guidance counselor. We will start slow, with a few field trips :) then start adding in subjects on the 25th.
  19. That's what I did, too, printed the first chapter. and like someone else said, you won't even use the whole chapter, just the section on classification.
  20. I roll with it! I'm actually just the opposite of the "twisted knickers". If I know about it in advance, I twist! I would stress about where the piano's going to go? how will we get it here? and end up not getting a piano. hm. now that I think about it this is exactly what happened. I was supposed to get my mom's piano, but had no idea how to get it here. dh kept saying he would call someone, but we both kept putting it off. One day my mom called and said "Hey, my friends son-in-law is here with the truck, we are bringing the piano" :) I can handle surprises much better because I don't have time to think. I just react.
